I tried to get a new mobile connection for my father who is a paraplegic patient. We went in a car to BSNL office. I took the form and filled it up. The person at the counter told me to come after lunch break as he was going for lunch at 12.30 PM. We waited in the hot sun and soon after lunch break I went to the counter again. They wanted my father to come to the counter which was in the second floor and put his signature in front of them. I said it is not possible for him to do so and requested him to come to the parking area, which he declined. He said,"you get an attestation for the signature from a gazetted officer and submit". I went to a shop across the road and got mobile connection from a private provider

Hmmm., I experienced the same, except for the fact I put my dad's signature.
I hope it will take india in the terms of internet penetration as today mobile phone. People will communicate with each other and will know each other's problem and related problem. This will give acceleration to transparency of govt decisions and it's project status. I hope in the coming years it's internet revolution which will give good govt in India.

I agree with you. Their website registration means nothing. Those babus in BSNL do not even care if their network is working fine or not. There is no accountability just because it is public sector. People work there for fun and there is no performance based incentive. Things happen because of some minister decides on policy matter not because BSNL is desiring to expand its presence or improve their profit/revenue etc...
This guy is either pulling promises out of his ass or his plans are not seeping through to people. It has been 5 months since I applied a broadband and haven't got a word from BSNL. Some equipment hasn't reached them, they tell. Who is to be blamed...

Just because you went up to the office and filled a form doesn't mean that you should receive a broadband connection the very next morning.
These things are not very simple to execute and there are lot of technical difficulties involved especially in India.

Ok i will tell u something in UK, there are places where certain service providers dont provide service at all, they say no to you. There are places in UK where there is no mobile coverage and u can do nothing...boss BSNL has not said no to you, consider lucky, and UK is half the size of maharashtra !!!
I dont support BSNL, problems are everywhere, u need to find a solution.
By the way lecturing is easy and doing it is difficult, so sorry, i hope u r problem gets solved !!

well said sunit kumar. people should look back and see how much we have achieved in recent times. There is no magic wand to transform the whole country the size of india overnight. vasudevan
They must ensure that they provide good quality of service. We don't mind even paying money but BSNL must improve process for connection and behavior of their staff. Their employee still think that they are goverment employee and nobody can touch them. BSNL should also concentrate on leased line business. The benefits are 1) Higher revenue. Average ARPU is 500 p.m so yeary revenue is 6000 against 64kbps leased line revenue would be @ 30000 to 40000 p.a 2) advance payment for one year. 3) Maintance is easy 4) few customers to handle.
I hope BSNL people can understand and change their bsuiness model.

Well said Sumit... Jaya Simha seems to be Jayalalitha's Fan... Jayalalitha always find fault even if it is good for the public
Our ministers and government are better than MNCs in marketing.for the past 10 years telecom industry and IT has developed beyond expectation.Telephone, mobile and internet has become essential commodities.people cannot think of future without these items.people are forced to use them even if they have to skip their lunch. millions of dollars are spent every month for the import of these items. Wisdom prevails it is for the government to decide which item should be made available cheaper to general public.now a days people are crazy to use mobile phones and internet. Government can bear loss because they spent public money. while as people who wants use phone has to spent anything from 1200 to 15000 rupees. and for internet one has to have a good PC or mobile whic may cost 10000 to 35000 rupees. once you are used to you become addicted and try to maintain at any cost.Thats why I say government is focing public to spent instead of teaching them to save. This is another way of pampering the public with out the interference of ISI.
VSNL broadband is very good, fast & the veryyyyyy good service, after registering the complaint, it is being solved within 24 hrs. And the poor BSNL wont give the connection, they say that in ur area we cant give the connection because of the bad phone line & also 2 months waiting is there for BSNL. So Vsnl is great.

Tata Indicom is the WORST..
I have a leased TATA INDICOM broadband connect at my office...
I have used Airtel Broadband earlier (and its quite okay)
Now I am using BSNL (unlimited 900 plan) in my home & it really rocks... No question of disconnection & keeping the speed up as promised.
But TATA INDICOM has intermittent connection failures (It used to disconnect every half-an-hour)... Not reliable for downloading large files...
Where as when I Start the download using BSNL in the night & go for sleep... the download completes without any disconnection (I tested even continuous 12 hours download... no interruption)...
