Yes, Indian airports deserve international standards in todays context and in order to achieve such heights they need international and experienced players to mould them. What india has at the moment and what it actually deserves are at opposite extremes ex. Mumbai ranks the second dirtiest International Airport following Boston. I think AAI is not capable enough to modernise our four major airports in Delhi, mumbai, chennai and kolkata. where in they can go ahead with other airports like in second tier cities ahmedabad, amritsar, etc.,
It is HIGH time the government moved out of running airports, airlines or hotels etc. It is also well known the attitude of government workers towards providing service. Airporet and airlines are service providers and it is important that it is run on a competitive basis to constantly imporove service provided to millions of passengers who pay for this service but never gets it. What the government can do is to provide suitable training for the existing empolyees and make them employeable under the changing enviornment. I wonder if the airports aare for the benifit of the few thousand employees or for the many million passengers. Who are we trying to satisfy? I guess it should be the one who pays for it. i.e. the PASSENGERS! If the employees think that they can bring the nation to a halt, the government must take stern action. SAVE THE TAX PAYERS MONEY.
Definitely, the air ports are to be privatised without any further delay. In fact, there was no justification for starting them in public sector at the very outset. What possible reason can any one raise for keeping them under govt control? If, for argument's sake, it is agreed that it is so, then by the extension of the same logic, all bus stations, taxi stands, autorickshaw stands should be nationalised!! Privatisation does not mean that Customs, Police and other security mechanisms are done away with!
In fcat it should have been done long back but, better late than never.
Mumbai & Delhi airports are crying for improvement and if India is to emerge as a world class player the first thing it should have is a world class airport, the first place where a foreigner will set foot when in india
Most of these airport employees are haughty and lazy.. and take their salary as birth right.
We shouldnt allow a few employees to hold an entire country of 100 billion to ransom. If they have a problem with privatization they can quit and find employment elsewhere. Job is nobodys bithright you have to prove your worth for it.
Sir, Privatisation has become the order of the day. Health, communications (telephones, courier service) hospitality industry, electricity, surface transport (excepting railways), electronic field, food, aviation, shipping, drugs and medicines, private security, etc. have already been privatised and the competition is healthy. What is wrong in a private company taking over modernisation? When the government has the authority to supervisre and ensure quality, it is worth giving the option to private operators to carry out modernisation. The employees cannot hold public to ransom by resorting to flash strikes. How many people -sick, invalid, elders, pregnant women and those to attend important work are affected by selfish unions? The government should deal with this with an iron hand the implement Supreme Court's dictum in respect of strikes. We had enough of strikes all these five decades and let us not push India to doldrums. The government should firmly tackle the threat and be merciless to those who are paid by public. There are still ways to discuss the matter and come to an amicable solution and it is highly irresponsible to resort to strikes supported by vested interests.
It is not essential to give the airports in the hands of privatise companies. Only by giving the airports in the private hands how can one expect that Delhi and Mumbai airports would become world class airports. We can see the examples of privatisation of electricty in delhi, what the situation has improved in delhi, everyone can see this. There are lots of other examples also.
Instead of privatisation of airports, my opinion is that the work of modernisation be done through Airports Authority of India. AAI has the enough technical expertise of doing the airport related works. Only AAI can do the modernisation work since it has technical expertise and also financially it is sufficient to do all the modernisation work of Delhi and Mumbai airports.
Therefore, all the process of modernisation work may be done through only Airports Authority of India not through private companies which only make money for themselves. They will also not be in favour of airports employees. Hence I am strongly against the privatisation of the Delhi and Mumbai Airports. DO THE MODERNISATION NOT THE PRIVATISATION.
Yes, The airports at Delhi and Mumbai should be privatised. Actually govt should have taken this step much earlier. The filthy state of our airports is proof of how well they are maintained by AAI and its employees. Bad conditions of trolly and in even a tunnel pathway near arrival sections tells a different and ugly story. Stry animals like cows, dog, etc sits their and discharge their droppings and no one cares to clean it. Also, these stray animals rest there. How dedicated is AAI towards these airports. I've seen this state of affairs from my eyes when i was going abroad at early morning at IGI. So, if privatisation takes place then definitely condition will improve. Govt should go on for privatisation. All these Hues and Cries will get down.
Yes, Airports should be privatised. History has proved that Only after privatisation things have improved. Be it in any sector, you must have seen people transformed and started working after privatisation and hence competetion. You need not go anywhere to see this change. Look at your nearest neighbour who used to work (rather not work) for Govt co. for so many years and suddenly gets double salary and slogs day and night now. Why is AAI suddenly waking up saying we can do. why dis they not do. I felt like crying when one of my foreign buyers was laughing at the Chennai and Mumbai International Airports leaking during rainy days. I felt like somebody was laughing at my family. What were these striking AAI staff doing when there were leaking roofs. why didnt they strike then. The whole point is that if you need IMPROVEMENT you have to CHANGE.
