I have had three appraisals in the past three years and I have made up my mind on the following aspects :
1. Work sincerly and have the worst and the best estimates of your increment. 2. Do not expect much from the Management.....but put forth your arguments strongly with valid points and data 3. If the management accepts then you will be happy...if it does not accept also do not worry as you have not had much expectations 4. Keep a watch outside the company about your market value 5. Do not take hasty decisions...think thrice before leaving your present job....don't think about salary alone..think about your future career and the chances available within your company
6. If you are getting a good offer outside, then switch immediately (but after consulting the same with your boss or super boss)
7. Having taken a decision, do not turn back and concentrate FOR the JOB ON HAND.

It's a good suggestion, most of us get in trouble at the last moment without any backup data to explain our contributions

This is another classic example of not recording your work. I cannot fathom, if one doesn't have data in hand, how does one submit his/her annual report?? One shud at least spend several days in accumulating data(if one has not done so during the whole of the year), collate it and transfer it in the shortest possible format to the higher-up(s). The managers do not have time to go thru lengthy reports. The good worker's achievements thereby gets overlooked.

The clarity between Indians who live/work in India and those who live/work abroad is clearly seen in these suggestions posted by 'me'. Guys! I would suggest everyone who has a chance, to work abroad for sometime and then come back to India and you will appreciate everything.
We all, in general, usually 1. pose problems and do not suggest solutions. 2. come up with questions and rarely with answers. 3. copy ideas instead of coming up with original ideas. 4. follow rather than lead (methods, policies, procedures in almost every aspect of corporate and domestic lives) and so on and so forth
And I found some posts in which people opined that they could probably start a company and work on their own. Its not a bad idea. But, then, you will have the same problems there with your employees. In general, the Indian mindset is very labile and meek - be it in dealing with terrorism or our own demostic problems
never believe in someone else appraising u. people praise or criticize for their selfish narrow motives. be ur own appraiser. setting & meeting self standards is best. dont meet expectations too low or too high (unrealistic) from others. people deliberately keep the bar just too high to get the best out of u. Times they keep it too low to make u beleive u doing wow just so that u feel important in an otherwise stupid job. all gimmicks with too much to show too little substance. we & only we know our worth, be it money be it self respect. demand it & get it!!
Appraisals is the order of the day.Generally speaking appraisers are forthright in appraising. But one out of 10 appraisers may turn out to be unscrupulous. Hence, the individual who in spite being a competent man & high achiever should be prepared for road bumps ahead as it is the appraisers' whims & fancies at times that matter at the time of rating etc. The solution does not lie in complaining but lies in tactfully exposing the bias of the appraiser. Here the reviewer should play a decisive and fair role in differing with the rating by the appraiser and in doing so he will be doing a fair job that promotes the employee retention. If on the other hand he is convinced by the unscrupulous appraiser he is doing a disservice to the company when attrition rate goes up as is the present trend. The dissatisfied employee too must look at the organization he has been working for , it's culture, values and treatment of the employees and their welfare and the whole gamut before taking decision to quit the job. One never knows the new job may have many road -rumbles and the new job should not land him in dissatisfaction again. Hence, one should make an objective assessment of the organization and himself, his potential etc.The reviewer should not be biased and should clearly differ with the appraisers' views and spell out why he does so instead of fusing with the latter's' views . Frequent organizational health studies by the HR wing of the unit should play a pivotal role t
Appraisal ek chochala hai kyunki sabko pata rahta hai kya rating milne wala hai.. HR ko kaam mil jata hai isi bahane.. baaki all that bothers to an individual is hike/increment/promotion.. jinko promotion mila .. for them that Appraisal that year is very important milestone nahi to.. sab paise ke upar hai .. 3 mile ya 4.. C mile ya D.. agar hike ummeed ke hisaab se hai to sab theek hai nahi to sabse best rating bhi sirf theory ban ke rah jata hai..

Theek Kaha Tumne, Jitna bhi rating aane do par HIKES kabhi nahi, if HIKE diya to bus itna sa ke chai aur biscuit mein kharch hojate...Yeh sab bakwas hai appraisal system...Agar acha hike milta hai to woh andar hi andar thode hi employees ko dete hai (jo manager ke chamche hai) hardwork nahi karte par smart work karte hai....
Achieving the Goal: only HOD takes the credit and gets the increment, pat and the extra bonus with elevation. minimum increment to certain colleagues non-achievement of goal: HOD gives reason as poor performance of colleagues and still gets the increments while other do not.
You must be ready with offer letter from other company during the time of incriment. if you not satisfied with your incriment, put down you paper and go ahead
