Entering the corporate world?
by Mayur on Oct 19, 2006 06:07 PM  Permalink

Hi,

My first job was quit interesting. Got to learn a lot.
After giving a lot of interviews I was selected in one of the BPO Company... Opportunity strike once.

Off course to grow in life you have to face a lot of barriers, but thats life what people count as experience. You got to see and face a lot of people in life with different attitudes.

Just some feedback
by Archana on Oct 19, 2006 05:09 PM  Permalink

I was a victim of bruised egos/office politics in my last job. Taught me something very valuable.

I totally endorse the point which said "learn". It's so true. Unless one has an open attitude to learning one cannot grow.

Nice article. Apt to not just beginners but also people (like me) who've put in a few years at the workplace.

excel at your first job

The article is quite good and thoughtful. However i sometimes wonder why almost all articles are focussed on BPO and IT jobs?

YOUR FIRST STEP IN TO THE CORPORATE WORLD
by venkatesan on Oct 19, 2006 03:34 PM  Permalink

It is a good article giving good tips. Another important point is to start working on developing good interpersonal skills. As a student the relationship is of different nature but as a working professional it is different.

BPO
by Gurmeet Singh Bhatia on Oct 19, 2006 02:27 PM  Permalink

BPO trains you like anything...If you pass a BPO test for 3 odd years-
1. In personal Life : you know everything-but havent actually done it and you are coming out clean..you will NEVER-EVER go wrong in life.
2. Professionally : Timeliness, reporting and stress. These 3 teachers rule BPO, if you survive, you are a true professional, anytime.

Too good!!!!

Hi all,

The article is too good especially for the new joinees. The reason why I am telling this is simply because even I am a new joinee and wanted some tips to grow. I think this article will help not only me, but everyone who do their job sincerely, but their work is not recognised simply because they dont play tricks to impress their boss.

Hi Arvind,

Please dont speak negative and before saying something about BPO companies please clear your facts.

Your comments are totally stupid....

Go an at least try to clear a one round of interview over there...then you will understand that people working over there are uneducated or the smart ones.

Mr Arvind,
Let me clarify, neither do i work for a BPO, nor an executive in an IT/ITES firm....
but its utterly embarassing to hear ur comments...just to give u a few facts...for entry level positions minimum criteria is 10+2 in voice based processes, however as u move up the criteria goes on increasing...what you have mentioned as "otherwise being unemployed all their lives" this process outsouring is attracting human resources from the most elitist b schools in india, and candidates with professional qualifications like CA, CFA an well as LLB's and if after all these credentials you still think they wudve otherwise been unemployed...mebe u should re think... and even if you hypothetically speak that mebe they wudve been "JOBLESS".its apalling that instead of commending the fact that as society v have been able to provide livelihood to n number of individuals...you wud b indulging in such a regressive thought process..and if this still dosent clariify my point..please log on www,bseindia.com is Bombay stock exchange check out the IT companies results...then go to their web site download annual reports and c how heavily dependent they r on human resources. thats all for n

Hi,
The mail headlining "Always BPO" is the perfect example of little kowledge is dangerous thing. BPO has brought innumerable possibilities to many youngsters to sustain, survive and grow with some world class companies. People who belive in fact and statistics will tell that. Let accept it.
Regarding the article, I belive, we need to be exposed to understand the realities of this article. It is wonderfully picturised.

I fully agree with you. These people always write articles about BPO, sales and Marketting or some MBA.
There are many other areas which can be covered. I am a software engineer and my husband is a Doctor. But I never see any article for these professions.
Not a single for teachers. Perhaps they do not consider these as career options or professions ?
These profession also have there rules, their ups , downs, the problems and good moments.
Perhaps the rediff team is not aware of the demands of these professions.
Whay always BPO ?

Hi Arvind,
Its really embarassing to hear your comments
It shows utter lack of your knowledge about indian economy as you should be knowing it that these IT/ITES are big boom to the country's economy.

Dear Mr Singh,

Your opinion on BPOs is extremely humiliating and biased. It is not hard to imagine that your encounter with a call centre has not been first-hand.
I have worked in a call centre and value the fact that the pedagogy received there, has given me the capability and confidence to "take on the world".
I would appreciate if before passing such demeaning comments on a profession or person, you take an impartial and practical view.

my horror story
by DO NOT WANT TO DISCLOSE on Oct 17, 2006 02:42 PM  Permalink

hi
i worked for the leading pharma company.
my immediate boss was a complete jerk.
she would take my ideas and my work and project them as her own. she would ask me to her work ( i made 90% of her presentations)and when caught would say that she has no knowledge abt it. Since i was on retrainership, i was not supposed to handle few things(basically her work), but she would make me do it and when asked abt how i was performing, she never projected the work i did, as she would have faced the fire...
the worst part was the our GM now the Director of the department was never willing to listen...
it was really sad, and i ultimately quit...
Guess what my so called great boss also left after few days, but i am sure they never understood the real reason, or willl ever do...
