what for ''the foreighn coach''
by venkatesh on Apr 29, 2005 12:55 AM  Permalink

ajith wadekar needs support for his forthright comment that we dont need a foreign coach.indian cricketers have enough experience to teach or coach our yougsters.the problem with indian team is selectors and not the coach.they want to retain the players even when they are not performing.it should be borne in the mind that the indian team plays for the country and not for a private company.its now a known fact that the sponsors particularly the multinationls are having thier influence over the selectors since they invest huge on individual players and not on the team that they want to retain those who want them.if you want to remain in the team all you have to do is first get a celebrity to stand by uou and then a politician or that kind.the pressent coach is a very soft and cool person thogh once his term is over we should no longer look for outsiders.

foreign coach

i differ with mr.wadekar on this issue. sure, he has been one of india's more successful coaches, but his overseas record is poor. it took a foreign coach to bring some cheer on this front.when wright became coach there was a hue and cry about "foreign coach" and his "communication problem". of late mr.b.s.bedi also has opposed hiring a foreign coach. it is all starting to sound like a "sons of the soil" argument. in my opinion a proffessional coach with proven credentials should be selected by the BCCI, as soon as possible, regardless of his nationality. if he is not preforming, you have the option of replacing him.

Oh Really!!!

I think Mr.Wadekar should look back to the history of indian cricket. TEAM INDIA has flourished only after John Wright took over the job. Before that we have tried all the possible options of former indian players and we were not successful. Those people were from India itself and were having the best knowledge og indian conditions but could not do any thying great as a coach.Whatever respect we have got as being a good team in past few years has been earned under John's regime.Definetly i am not talking about the GREAT Team of 80's.Yeah but we should not have just any coach. I think Chappel or Steve Waugh are among the best suited.

I disagree with Wadekar's comment when he put Patil in same bracket of Kapil and Gavaskar. Patil definitely was not a great player. His statisitc will speak of this.
With the experience of Wadekar who tried to push only Mumbai player, we know the narrow regional outlook of our coaches. There can be exceptions. But to make it full proof better to have an overseas coach

Use only what works

If a foreign coach delivers result then lets bear the extra cost and give our team the best.
Indian coaches will be somewhat biased to their own regions

Wadekar's rantings
by paddy on Apr 22, 2005 08:58 AM  Permalink

I am not sure why Rediff publishes Wadekar's rantings. He has lost all credibility. The main point missed is that a great coach need not be a great player and a great player need not make a great coach (Kapil Dev as an example)

great players not always be great coach. coachin requires some indepth knowledge and to tapp the potential. Some foreign coaches know the tech know how thats what we want ? its heavily depends upon u r knowledge regarding the team u r playing. so

no sense having foreign coach
by Sandip Bose on Apr 22, 2005 01:51 AM  Permalink

I really really beg to differ with Mr. Wadekar. In today's world, like everything else, cricket is very competitive and a hardcore professional's game. We definitely need a foregn coach because he will be above the regional bias. To me, Greg Chappell or Steve Waugh will be a good choice keeping in 2007 world cup in mind(Their records are phenomenal). I can't accept that Sandeep Patil belonged to the same class as Greg Chappell. I would like to have an Australian coach as he only might have the recipe to beat the world champions. Please take the "coach" issue seriously.

No sense having foreign coach

Dear Mr. Wadekar,

Our coach need not always be a past player, he should be somebody like Ramakant Achrekar who has been producing some of the best players India has seen. India doesn't need a coach with or without any particular nationality. We need an impartial coach who understands our players, understands their game, can help them overcome their drawbacks, design various strategies to win games and most importantly doesn't get easily influenced by BCCI but has enough respect to prevent BCCI from influencing our players or their game.

useless Indian Coaches
by anil on Apr 21, 2005 10:26 PM  Permalink

One foreign coach and our results are so astounding. Then how come some people are coming to conclusion that we do not need foriegn coach. We need only foreign coaches coz the local ones get all of them into politics. GREAT players are never good coaches so sunil and kapil are not in the fray.
