Benefits of Nuclear Deal
by M Srinivas on Jul 20, 2008 11:48 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

If nuclear deal goes through, India's energy needs will be fully met, Nuclear energy is infinite energy though it more costly by 20% to 50% than coal or hydro electricity. More and more industries can be started, lot of employment can be generated for people and there will be overall improvement of life of people. There is possibility that India can become an economic superpower like Japan or USA. Regarding security, when India gradually become an economic superpower, more and more i.e. 10 times more conventional weapons, 10 times more missiles, 10 times more fighter planes and 10 times more nucler weapons can be built. More navy ships and more submarines, more fighter planes can be built or purchased. India had already exploded nuclear weapons. When India gradually becomes a economic superpower, govt. will have more money, hundreds or thousands of missiles with nuclear and conventional warheads can be built. No country will raise a hand against India. Now it is necessary that, India's energy needs are to be met and India had to become an economic superpower. Massive build up of weapons (nuclear and conventional) can be taken gradually in future. China or Pakistan will never dare to attack India, as India is a nuclear power and nuclear missiles can reach Bejing. If nuclear goes through, India likely to become an economic superpower as well as military superpower or mini military superpower in future. There will also be an option to buy gas from Iran in addition to nuclear ene

Myth #11: India needs more nuclear power to assure its energy future.

Fact: Nuclear power has been virtually insignificant in India’s energy mix in the past, and will be no more important in the future. India has been generating electricity with nuclear reactors for more than 40 years. Yet, reactors supply only 2% to 3% of its electricity today. India has not built more reactors because they have not turned out to be as safe, or as clean, or – most important – as economical as originally thought. Even if India were to achieve a 50% increase in nuclear power generation (which is unlikely) such a step would only increase India’s overall electricity output by one percent at most, and would only increase India’s overall energy output by a fraction of one percent. That is not a significant increase in the energy available to India and would not decrease India’s demand for oil and gas.

Dear Singh
don't get lost in your own world..
India did not build more reactors NOT because we don't have the technology for making reactors. BUT WE DON"T HAVETHE required fuel. If we had got most of our reactors are running currently at half the capacity because of SHORTAGE of fuel. SO if we can get fuel for those reactors, that itself is sufficientto make the current contribution of Nueclear electricity to 5-6 %.. And then if we have a supply of fuel we can add more reactors. Having more reactors will help us to improve our own technical capabilities to purify Uranium and also use THorium which available in our own geagraphical boundaries.

We would be foolish if we plan to depend on the current sources of energy. 53 % of our elecricity comes from coal. This is fast exahasting in an exponential fashion. So we need to identify alternative sources. Nuclear fuel is definitely one of the options and we can't go on having an isolation with the international community.

Also our isolation on the issue of neuclear policy is preventingb us from getting a permenant seat in UN security council.

Opposition of Left parties is based on their idea that they can muster the Muslim votes in Kerala and Bengal. All these leader of left criticise US every now and then..but they go to US for traement, send their kids for education there.. All this gimmick is to make the public a fool.
So don't get into their trap.

How long are we going to depend on mi

The manipulation behind this deal is to stop our effort to develop Thorium technology. By going with n-deal all our financial resources will be drained. We will not be in a position to give serious thought on Thorium. Remember stock of Uranium in the world is depleting fast, reaching the end-point by 2070. It is not far. The present projected target is 40000MW in the next 20-30 years. It is an unrealistic projection, in my opinion. There may be some thought of PREFABRICATED PLANTS to speed-up the commissioning. A disastrous thinking for the nation. Think of the radiation hazards connected with it. By that time Uranium will reach near its end point. Then what is the need of the deal? The nuclear deal is for getting Uranium. Then question arises-what is it for? The aim of the western powers is to take away our (60% of world deposit) Thorium at their dictated price. Our leaders should be intelligent enough to read these facts. All investments made for building Uranium based plants will be wasted. Should we waste such a huge astronomically large investments? All form a burden of foreign loans.

let me quote from the article of u mentioned :

"Amid this opulence of energy resources, why beg for or borrow American stuff that has strings attached and involves unfamiliar technology?"

where is this opulence of energy resources?

bengal and Kerala has been ruled by leftists quiet long : If there is so much resources why they still have power cuts?

60 % of Indian villages are still living without electricity. And in most of the places where there si elctricity the supply is marred by low voltage and power cuts.

Tell me one village in Kerala where there is no voltage problems.

All parties have ruled India. If there was so much abundance of resources why they did not address the issue of shortage of electricity which is so vital for development.

the majority of our population is still only developing. Once they start living like most of these leader (including VRK and karats ) teh demand for electricity will be so huge. Or do these leaders expect taht these poor guys are never going to see electricity and refrigerator?

I have great rerspect for Krshna Iyer. But at least this article a simple diarrhoea of words.
I even doubt it has been written in his name by someone else with leftist leaning. the unusual vocabulary is not typical of Krishna Iyer..

anyway..let us bother about providing electricity to masses rather than American Policies. Left always wanted an opponent to fight agains. Now it is Amerca..that is all..
