What are likeley benefits and pitfalls? what interest US have is pushing Deal and what agenda of MMS. why BJP which initiated the deal and largely a pro US party is apposing deal now? The urgency in this deal is not needed.

We have a lot of things to improve in energy conservation, tapping renewable energy sources, better roads, water supply, inflation control.

Nothing was done by this Govt for these instead going blindly with this deal thinking that this will solve all our energy needs, which is not true.

Though Nuclear Energy is not actually very clean. But with this deal India will be part of Nuclear Club. declaring a Nuke state is not really going to make mush difference.

Where is the debate? I didnt see anything except within Mr. Manmohan's head.

Also Can you tell me when we will get the real benefits of this deal if its passed through? 10 years? why cant we wait for another 10 months, why so much opposition?

Thats good
1. I think US wants india to behave responsibly. Don't allow AQ khan type network. US doesn't want india to conduct unprovoked nuke tests. If provoked, india has the right to conduct tests, US has no major objections...
2. Deal is good as it will not only bring fuel/reactors but will allow our scientists to have a collaborative research which shall help us in speeding up thorium based reactors....
3. As per deal, india is not counted as nuke weapons state. That shall no worry us as whole world knows, we have weapons and can make more....

Excellent analysis. In short we need the deal so that we do not face any major energy crisis in the coming days. As we all know nuclear energy is clean. But we should also admit that no deal will be 100% favour of India.

India definitely need N-deal and civil nuclear reactors.
But this deal will break India's bone. The present form of deal is nothing but CTBT and NPT.
Unless US-Allies declare India a nuclear state, the present form of deal will totally break India's bone.
Then China and Pakis will also even be stronger than
India in near future over India's Nuclear-self-reliance.

But deal will help India build its Nuclear weapon stock pile ,which otherwise is not possible. I believe its good overall may at the cost of some adjustment. Further in highly polarised world India needs to be in some block to really prosper.

We should discuss the positives of the deal and the benefits it would have in the long run. Of course you need to give away something to achieve 99%. No deal is unilateral and one-sided.

Iran is a nuclear state even without USA-Allies declaring that.
