Indian-American ?
by viney yadav on Feb 05, 2007 09:19 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

How come she is an Indian-American astronaut? She is not born in India. She did not study in India. She is not working for India. The work/research she is doing is no way going to help India. Its not funded by Indian government. Officially, it has nothing to do with India. She may be a lady with roots in India but she is just American astronaut.

Also, are we supposed to celebrate the news? Just because her parents used to be Indian who are well settled abroad and have no plans of coming back also?

OK, you can say I am narrow-minded. I should think about the world as a family. In that case, she was not alone there. Just say that NASA's astronauts did so and so.

Comon forget the media, people read and see those subjects which appeal to them and media is not successful in selling any news. She may not be Indian Citizen but is an Indian-American for sure which the American media states her to be. And finally her family in Mehesana is Indian Citizen. We must be proud of her.

I absolutely agree to you Mr. Viney Yaday. These news makers just need some kind of story to make.

She is Indian-American. You can't deny that. Just as blacks here are African-American eventhough their ancestors came to the US centuries ago, Americans with their roots in India are Indian-Amricans. If you don't want to be proud of her success, that's your choice. I don't have any problem with that. Also a correction that only her father is from India, her mother is American.
