Atleast for next 20 years or so, US would be the pre-eminent power and the gatekeeper of NSG. If the deal breaks down, there is no reason why it can not be restarted when the next US Prez takes over. Instead of reacting against US, it may be advisable to explore the possibility of continuing the trust building measures in the domain of security matrix and economic linkages. A reasoned and caliberated response to US let down would avoid damage to the present day stakeholders and enhance India's perceptions in the eyes of still suspicious Americans.

Americans were not really serious about this deal. It was just a carrot to make India vote in UNSC in line with US. Now they don%u2019t need India support and that%u2019s how their all principle and values have come into picture. Americans are shrewd; we got to be really smart to get any favorable deal from them. Govt must stand firm and should not bow to any pressure. I wish left, right and center could think same way on this issue, at-least.

The weakness I think lies with the standard of US negotiators. They do not know how to play the ball on their side and now seek elevation to political level. Isn't handling of US politicians their responsibility? Why they need Indian negotiators to talk to their politicians to just maintain what they have already agreed to? Uttering pious words about Indian being good and sincere is simply silly. This 123 agreement would bring US, EU closer to not only India, but also to Russia and many other third world nations. It would be a major stablising factor for Israel while it seeks resoution to its vexed situation. Terror war would receive a much need impetus by legtimising US effort, since the erstwhile 'victims' viz Indian and Russia would be on the same side. Making undemocratic Pakistan an ally in terror war in not exactly convincing to Americans themselves. The soft and hard power projection of India and its deep historical reach to clarify to the vast populace grappling with hate induced terror instillation, specially in the subcontinental context, need not be underestimated. The consummation of the 123 deal and confirming Indian inclusion to NSG would signal precedence of law over all other interests. Strengthening International Law is the best anti-dote to terror which is basically anti-law.

Other nations doing lot of deals & supplies, other things, why this much analysis & other things in case of Indians. Every one knows about our requirements. Americans know better about India & other countries also, know about India, why is the problem for few people in the middle & try to give some un-necessary comments. I am fighting w/ a group of gangs, my ability is very less. Get some chance in the middle & write stupid parasite comments by others, when reading every one knows.

most democrats oppose the nuclear deal with india, president bush and the republicans have helped to pass the 123 legislation. The nuclear deal will any way collapse once a democrat becomes president.

@sreekumar chandershekar, What is your wish? Why do you bother about others wishes, this might happen, that might happen. Don't ever see thing straight?
