this is a fact
by Amit V. Patel on Mar 22, 2005 07:06 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Have been in the United States since 2 years and have seen Indians hating each other for the "cheapest" reasons possible and this case is no different ... The ego problem has been prevailing and should be in the future too. Yes am from Gujarat and am ashamed of what happened .. infact we all are but that doesnt mean people should keep on raising this issue where ever they get a chance. Yes, this topic brings along large audience and claps but this didnt go any further ... we all saw the performance of the BJP! and they too have now realised ... cash time is over for them. Infact people have been working hard to improve the image of Gujarat. Lets accept the fact that it was a mistake of both communities and forget about who started and what happened and yes i know wounds take time to heal, but it should be given time to heal RIGHT? Instead we start scratching the wounds instead of applying medicine on it ..... and its the PRESS doing this stuff ... people try to forget things and theres the PRESS coming with some other topic of GUJARAT and then again it doesnt forget to metion about this riots .... how can it forget .. common people .. you are the ones who start a persons day!

For Gujarat to be healed MODI MUST BE PUNISHED BY INDIAN LAW. NO OTHER MEDICINE. Do Gujarat administration have the guts to do that?

Otherwise how can the wounds be healed? I dont understand. On one hand you prosecute those who set train to fire (I firmly support it, it should be) but same time you allow the murderers and rapists to move freely in the state with full state support. Unless this is corrected Gujarat wounds will never get healed and India globally will face the embrassement wherever and whenever the issue is raised.

In no other incident in independant India a state machinery was found engaged in sectarian killings, not in Sikh riots. By doing so GUJARAT HAS DARED THE INDIAN FEDERATION AND ITS CONSTITUTION AND DECLARED AN INDIRECT WAR ON THE INDIAN FEDERAL REPUBLIC. This is a blot on our country. Most state goverments in India have warned Gujarat administration and even the PM Vajpayee. Has Gujarat corrected this? No.

Till then Gujarat will be a shame on India, our constitution and a stick in the arm of international community to beat India. We cant avoid that. We are left with no defence if the issue come over and over again.

Amit, I agree with what u hav said, and wud also like to say that, the medicine u were talking about, the best possible medicine cud be one that prevents the recurring of the illness, and that medicine in case of Gujarat is, punishment to the people who did the crime so that others dont repeat it, dont get the courage that they can get away with it, ofcourse this medicine shud b given by us and not by third parties!!!!

Hi Amit,

Keeping the Gujarat riots out of the media, in my opinion, would only serve to make sure that no lessons are learnt from what happened. "Trying hard to forget" just helps to keep the issue simmering on the backburner. We don't need Modi out of the newspapers/media just so that we can forget the Gujarat riots and get on with our lives as if nothing happened. On the contrary, we need the state machinery's actions during the riots to be scrutized, so that closure can be brought to the many faceless victims (both Hindus & Muslims) of the violence.

IMHO,
-A
