This is a lop-sided view cooked up to bag headlines. Mere number of murders per annum is meaningless. One must consider the total population of the country into account. For example, if there are 100 people in a country and the number of murders per annum is 75, the figure is definitely worse than in a country of 100,000 in which the number of murders per annum is say 200. I am sure India's murder rate as a function of its population is lower than in may so-called respectable developed countries.

If, murder rate as a 'function of the population' is taken into account, many Indians ought to correct their stubborn viewpoint that China is a more violent society than India. China's name does not appear in the murder toppers' list while India's does. Barely hidden jealousy about the gigantic gap that has opened up between China and India in almost every sphere of human endeavour makes several Indians invent several things about the Chinese, lack of human dignity and freedom along with a violent regime being some of them. Yes, China may not be the ideal in terms of any of the above criteria. Yet, innumberable statistics about the human condition in the two countries make it very clear that the commoner is much better off in 'autocratic' China than in 'democratic' India !!!!
No use remembering to abuse China (a shining example - admittedly with a few blips - of how a backward nation ought to develop from bottom up and not from top down !) at every turn while conveniently pretending to forget it when embarassing proof arrives about it's ascendancy in almost every field !!

You are a gullible victim of Chinese propaganda. China is a totalitarian society and the authorities will never permit any negative remarks about their country in the media. As for violence, the violence in Tibet should serve as ample evidence of the "peaceful" intentions of the powers that be in China. Your problem is you must hate India at all costs. If there is no apparent reason, you will go ahead and create one just to spite India. It could be because you are a Christian?

You are quite an oaf, ain't you ? Cant think beyond the conditioning you have received in childhood about 'HINDU' 'MUSLIM' 'CHRISTIAN'...
If it can penetrate your thick skull, let me hopefully try to make you understand that Indians in general (and South Indians in particular) tend to identify more with their linguistic group than their religious group. For eg., a malayali nair would rather identify himself with a malayali christian than with a telugu hindu or a malayali christian would be more comfortable with a malayali hindu than with a goan christian. This is a basic truth for most people and there is little use in you being ignorant about it or trying to pretend that such a state of affairs does not exist.
If north India lags by light years in almost every criteria of human development (and I am not saying that the south has become fully developed in this regard, only that the north is far, far worse), part of the reason is that it's commoner idiots are easily fooled by vested interests into thinking that the dumbed down version of 'religion' and 'religious identity' that they offer the former are what they should deify as the ideal and the commoner's woefully shrivelled up brain that will not allow them to see anything beyond.
One fine testimony to whatever I have said above is the nature of your question referring to my religious identity. I had written about the giant gap existing between China and India and all you could remember was my Christian name !!!

Mr Mathews, assuming you are right, can you think for a moment about what makes other countries better then India?
Its because their countrymen are more patriotic and very defensive about their country. Where as some Indians like you are ever ready to point out the negative issues about our country. Remember that because we are a democracy you today are able to stand up and criticize. In most other countries you might have faced being behind bars or even worse.
I agree that one should not be blind to ones country's faults. But tell me which country is perfect?
Despite all our shortcomings, despite all the corruption, despite the high level of poverty one has to appreciate that we have grown in our 61 years of independence. Yes, one wishes that we could have accomplished for more then we have. But is it ok to always be so ever ready to knock down and trash everything we have accomplished? The fact that today you are able to put forth your arguments so eloquently is a testament to the progress our country has made in education amongst other fields.
Yes, you have the right as everyone else has in a democratic society to highlight the problems. But along with the rights you also need to remember that you have a responsibility to be a part of the solution.
I personally deplore our mentality of always bringing religious and state issues and am glad that you feel the same way. However dont tell me that this is unique to India only. In USA we have race issues too.

Only 10% of crimes are registered in India. Remebrer Noida case ? that butcher killed 36 kids and for six month, police wont register crime !
If this is the condition of the so called national capital region, what say about interiors ? Your developed countries are less corrupt than India.

Only 10 % crimes are registered in India but 100% crimes are registered in the rest of the world. How can you assume that. I think we should be less cynical. We should be proud of our achievements and not allow frivolous and meaningless statistics to tarnish the image of our country. Of course there will always be people who love to hate their country.

Why don't you go and settle in China then? What the hell are you doing in a country of beggars. Have some self-respect. You are quite comfortable with China where there is a totalitarian system and news about murders and torture is not even published. With people like you around India does not need any enemies.

For your kind information Mr. Annu malik, India is not even in top 10 corrupt countries in the world.According to the 2007 Global Corruption Barometer, the countries with the highest level of bribery are — Albania, Cambodia, Cameroon, Macedonia, Kosovo, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Romania and Senegal. Still I agree with you on one point that police dont register all the cases as It was pointed out by many of highly qualified and even some officers from Police department itself. And even According to FORBES ( your favorite developed country's surveyor ) India managed to drag itself out of truly Corrupt group in the world.
