India is the murder capital of the world

This is a lop-sided view cooked up to bag headlines. Mere number of murders per annum is meaningless. One must consider the total population of the country into account. For example, if there are 100 people in a country and the number of murders per annum is 75, the figure is definitely worse than in a country of 100,000 in which the number of murders per annum is say 200. I am sure India's murder rate as a function of its population is lower than in may so-called respectable developed countries.
