Mr Mathews, assuming you are right, can you think for a moment about what makes other countries better then India?
Its because their countrymen are more patriotic and very defensive about their country. Where as some Indians like you are ever ready to point out the negative issues about our country. Remember that because we are a democracy you today are able to stand up and criticize. In most other countries you might have faced being behind bars or even worse.
I agree that one should not be blind to ones country's faults. But tell me which country is perfect?
Despite all our shortcomings, despite all the corruption, despite the high level of poverty one has to appreciate that we have grown in our 61 years of independence. Yes, one wishes that we could have accomplished for more then we have. But is it ok to always be so ever ready to knock down and trash everything we have accomplished? The fact that today you are able to put forth your arguments so eloquently is a testament to the progress our country has made in education amongst other fields.
Yes, you have the right as everyone else has in a democratic society to highlight the problems. But along with the rights you also need to remember that you have a responsibility to be a part of the solution.
I personally deplore our mentality of always bringing religious and state issues and am glad that you feel the same way. However dont tell me that this is unique to India only. In USA we have race issues too.
