Ready to pay
by Surya on Mar 07, 2007 02:02 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Pay for what? The government's apathy is shown in that regardless of peak or non-peak hours, the conditions, infrastructure, filthiness, incompetence, police misbehaviour, congestion, unprofessional employees, all combine to make a indian airport an extremely forbidding experience. On one hand they say we are growing at 8%,well and good, but what the hell are we doing about the airports ? They are the most distressing airports when compared to any other reasonable nation, completely apathetic and hopeless. And now we have to "pay" more to use these dirty, ragged, old, outdated, crumbling, dilapidated, crowded, unfriendly, authoritarian, places. I'm all for it. aren't you ?

Compare the facilities at any other country with the population of 1Bn & democracy which allows citizens to speak their mind.....and u'll c that India is doing terrific !

There r too many cribbers in the country already, don't add more to 'em. Either enjoy what u have or if u aren't happy, contribute to make things better.

Hey seems like u don't know a secret....will tell u.....airports or rly station or bus stands don't dirty, crumble, crowd themselves.. we do that to these places. U wanting a better upkeepment of places & better management of services is fine but not wanting to pay for it is.....well....common !

Dear Smita Joshi,
Please read my post once again. On one hand where I have protested
against the airports, I have also praised the effort of the Delhi
metro and the people using it. People "are" paying more, no doubt,
but look at what they have got now. If we don't 'crib' and demand more
from our government, what's the point of being in a democracy?
I don't know where you get the idea that I do not contribute to
the society. It is not that I am not ready to pay for better service madam,
I am, but its hard for the common man to keep paying more for the "same" rotten service again and again.

peace

Yes thats apathy, but not only government part but also on ours. We always blame the other one and the ball keeps passing on and on...
You are comparing to any other reasonable nation, but do you know the people of other countirs pays tax ranging from 30-50% on an average, and we try to minimize to every penny we can...

You are right. They do pay more taxes. But they also do another thing. They track all the money much better than we do. We do not know where our tax money is really disappearing. Do you think it unreasonable for us to demand that such a fast growing country list India should have such airports where people come from outside and the first thing they see is a policeman scratching between his legs ? Give people a clean place and they will take care of it. Look at Delhi Metro as an example. This first day people almost wrecked it. But now look at it how well behaved and scruplous everyone is. I also hope, like you, that we are ready to take care of the good public infrastructure once it is provided to us.

In other countries only people in the High Income bracket pay these high taxes also they have some thing called social security which is unheard of in India moreover when we buy some thing people only pay a 5 or 10 % GST flat and people are not taxed multiple times....

However, coming back to airports, not only has this been a problem of lack of infrastructure, but also lack of planning. Some people have already pointed out that the definition of peak and non-peak
hours is blurry, but that instead of the ariline being forced to shift to the "non-peak" hours,
the people are being made to pay more. This smells like politicians and bureaucrats who took the money to grant permits to airlines to fly at peak hours, and then leave the hapless traveller to pay more to travel during this time as well.

Actually, I think the reasons I gave above should satisfy people that it is better to pay more and get the hell out of these places as soon as possible, peak hour or non-peak hour.... :)
