An improved method for calculating MVP
by sudheer sahu on Mar 21, 2007 09:16 PM  Permalink

I have altered rediff's method to some extent to take into account the match situation. As in a high scoring match a low-scoring match, and also bowler's efforts getting rewarded fairly. I have put it on my blog.
The evaluation method is defined at
http://sudheersahu.blogspot.com/2007/03/most-valuable-player-of-world-cup.html
and is applied on first two matches of India in the subsequent articles, which are at http://sudheersahu.blogspot.com/
We can apply the method to all teams all players but for the lack of time I am doing it only on the indian players.

Put Shehwag on top
by biz Narayan on Mar 20, 2007 04:13 PM  Permalink

Dear Srinivas,
Can you please put Shehwag on top position ? It doesn't look good that I visit this page so many times to find Shehwag's name, but he is no where among the top.

Just an academic exercise
by CricketLover on Mar 20, 2007 05:15 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

People are trying to copy the MVP concept from NBA/NHL but in cricket the numbers do not absolutely reflect the contribution to victory as it does in NBA/NHL where the number of goals directly contribute to result.Sometimes you have to take into account the match situation and how the contribution affected the end result, rather than just figures. In a low scoring game (like Pak Vs Ireland) even a score of 30 or 40 is much more critical than a 70 or 80 in a high scoring game (like India Vs Bermuda). So I just think this is a pure academic exercise and does not convey anything.

Sehwag ahead of everyone else?
by GV on Mar 19, 2007 06:33 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Am I reading it wrong? Does the 2 wickets that he took deserve such a high weightage that he can be ranked ahead of Ganguly or Yuvraj? Something serioudly wrong. Anyone who saw the match cannot digest this ranking. Munaf Patel being the only Indian ahead of Sehwag. Something worth a good laugh.

66/129 against bangladesh... Yes dear, that does deserve a position as low as 88..

Agreed. But Mr.Sehwag deserves something lower. Only consolation to this ranking is that I dunt see Agarkar in the list. I'd have been happier if his name was not there in the list of WC probables :)

the value of runs scored need to be calculated depending on the percentage of total runs scored by the team in the match.
