And let the kidz ruin the country... I'm a young pro who was surprised to hear a colleague say'give away Kashmir to Pakis yaar. aur kitna kharch karni hain apni tax on a bunch of muslim hooligans'. I slapped him and have faced disciplinary action which went against me! If a few young are poor at understanding what a nation is and how personal religion is, it is equally true that a few oldies are not worthy of leading this nation but we just need to wisen up and stop re-electing them.

Politicians need vision not merely a capacity to conspire
by Kris iyer on May 16, 2008 11:33 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Politics in advanced democracies throws up individuals with some real, genuine, proven skills in terms of knowledge of the country, knowledge of the actual problems faced by ordinary people and genuine and sincere desire to help improve the condition of the "Aam Adhmi". By being sincere and skilled, they hope to win elections. NOT SO IN INDIA.
Persons like Arjun Singh know ONLY HOW TO CONSPIRE, how to manipulate. They have not proved any other SKILLS. They are quite clearly interested in DIVIDE AND RULE. They are ever ready to "sup with the devil" "if they can get to sit in THE KURSI."
The tragedy is that in every Indian entity, you will find one or two Arjun Singhs. Even in many NGOs. After 60 years of independence, the model of a "clever" Indian is one who gets ahed only through conspiracies, loves illicit wealth, illicit sex and illicit use of public power. Our Public must vote for political parties with some sincerety and nationalism.
If Arjun Singh "nuances" statements, we have a southindian politician, KarunaNidhi, who also does the same. No one is ever sure what KarunaNidhi's policy is on anything. He too creates controversies merely to survive in politics. The two politicians, identical in their outlook are, naturally, good friends also. Both have already damaged India a lot.

Re : Politicia need vision not merely a capacity to conspire.
The opinion regrding Shri Arjun Singh comes only when a person do not know him. He is not only the great thinker but a man having courage to implement the policy for which he is known for, Its sound nice to have ideal politician , but to implement the ideal policy one may have to go accordingly , thats what Shri Arjun Singh is doing,he is smart enough to say the things and look for the reaction and acts accordingly , I personally feel he is the man with desired quality who can be one of the best PM f our country.

First time I heard a person talking bare reality on this message board. Simple value like honesty, integrity, selfless dedication has no taker in india's politics. This because we have criminal element in politics. The very criminal mentality is to get things without working hard and get things by means of cheating, theft, immoral behavour.

Message for Arjun Singh, messiah of the OBCs & dalits
by Ronnie Jacob on May 16, 2008 11:32 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If the government is really interested in the so called upliftment of the reserved classes, why not open seperate universities specially for them ? If there can be universities for the "minorities" there can also be special universities for the reserved classes too ! I suggest instead of reservation, seperate universities and technical and medical colleges to be opened by the Government exclusively for them and SAVE the Premier Institutions of Learning from the burden of QUOTAS.

Ronnie,

You speak common sense. But people like Arjun Singh and his Congress party will not listen to you, because they want to win elections through illusions, such as, "Look OBCs, you can get into IIM and IITs with only 50% marks whereas the other "forward" castes need 90%?. See we are giving you privileges - only for you and only we, the Congress party is giving you". To be able to do this, you cannot go by common sense.
Lee Kuan Yew the Premier of Singapore, when he found that some Chinese students were not learning English well, he started a "Special Assistance Plan" schools, put all the Chinese students there, gave them teachers from England and bought A-V aids to learn English better. Today the Chinese Singaporeans speak English better than some of our Indian people in the Metros.
Lee Kuan Yew made no fuss, there was no politics. He went practical without upsetting anyone.
In India, our power-hungry politicians thrive on controversies NOT COMMON SENSE.

Old Bandicoot!
by Junglee on May 16, 2008 11:14 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Arjun Singh has become so old that he cannot even walk properly. It is high time he retires and gives up his chair. Else, he will continue saying and doing things which damage the basic fabric of India. There are many such old bandicoots and they all should take sanyas or be kicked out or encourage them to kick out themselves !

Governorship of Maharashtra.
by ravi prakash on May 16, 2008 11:07 AM  Permalink

The article mentions in passing that there was some talk that Mr Arjun Singh would be posted as a Governor of Maharashtra. The reason being that the DF- Congress combine could use his political acumen. By all counts, Mr Arjun Singh is not a popular mass figure. He is better known as a shrewd manipulator and a power hungry politician.
It is time that the post of the Governor be exempt from such power games. The tax payer pays a cost for the salaries and the running expenses of the Governor. The best recourse would be to scrap the post of the CM and make the Governor an executive head of the state administration with his council of ministers.Doing this may not need a constitutional( tardy) amendment. Doing so will ensure that only genuinely popular figures occupy this office and not a those who are a general nuisance to the society.

Arjun Singh is out to cripple India
by Gautam Sinha on May 16, 2008 10:24 AM  Permalink

Arjun Singh is a dethroned Raja due to Indian policies. If you see his activities, he is out to cripple India with his policies e.g. left patronage, OBC reservations based on obsolete data but not clearing creamy layer. He is a shrewd politicians. same case with VP Singh. All these Maharajas are taking revenge on India's growth. If he was interested in growth and really had good leadership skills he would have rid his constituency of feudalism which he hasnt. He doesnt practise what he talks about, he is only playing game of power and revenge
