The article mentions in passing that there was some talk that Mr Arjun Singh would be posted as a Governor of Maharashtra. The reason being that the DF- Congress combine could use his political acumen. By all counts, Mr Arjun Singh is not a popular mass figure. He is better known as a shrewd manipulator and a power hungry politician. It is time that the post of the Governor be exempt from such power games. The tax payer pays a cost for the salaries and the running expenses of the Governor. The best recourse would be to scrap the post of the CM and make the Governor an executive head of the state administration with his council of ministers.Doing this may not need a constitutional( tardy) amendment. Doing so will ensure that only genuinely popular figures occupy this office and not a those who are a general nuisance to the society.
