what is happening in sri lanka is not ethinic cleansing. they are not forcefully converting hindus. neither they are destroying hindu temples. the situation there is different. the tamils(mostly hindus) there are fighting of an independent country and sri lankan goverment is not ready to to do that.

I dont think that there was any ethinic cleansing of hindus by buddhist anywhere in the world. People from their will might have started following the path of buddhism. And that should be accepted in a good society.
All the religions originated in India are very much similar and have very similar rituals. All these religions are based on the principle of peace and harmony. none of these religions encourage spreading the religion by virtue of sword.

Tibet issue
by Vikram Nalawade on Mar 19, 2008 08:49 AM  Permalink

India should become the part of the international group in condemning the tibet issue. Also India shuld take the stand for the religious freedom of the Buddhist in Tibet.
Also the left parties should be forced to take a clear stand on this issue who are self proclaimers of Human rights and secularism. If they negates to comment or takes a pro chineese stand then they should be exposed throughout the India and should be considered as traitors.
The govt can have some compulsions to take stand on this issue. But not the people of Inida or political parties of India.
Lets see to whom these communists are loyal.

FIRST THING FIRST- IF WE WANT OUR OPINION COUNTED IN WORLD POLITICAL ARENA
by Mahendra Patel on Mar 19, 2008 07:39 AM  Permalink

BUILD PRO-ACTIVE MIGHTY ARMY, STRONG ECONOMY, STRONG GRASS ROOT CIVIL SERVICE. TILL THAN NO NEED TO GO FOOL HARTED.

TO CRACK CHINA NEED TO KNOW- REAL POLITICAL PULSE IN ALL DIFFERENT PROVINSES, CHINESE MILITARY STRENGTH AND WEAKNESSES, THEIR DICISION MAKING MECHANISM, THEIR READINESS TO SECRIFICE.

ONE BIG WEAKNESS I SEE IS IN THEIR EXPORT - IF LIKE MINDED COUNTRIES CITIZEN STOP BUYING CHINESE PRODUCT- WHOLE COMMUNIST MACHINERY FALL FLAT.

SECOND- THE OIL FLLEET CAN BE STOPPED FOR PROLONGED PERIOD TO HOLT COUNTRIES FACTORIES PRODUCTION.

THIRD, WORLD PUBLIC OPINION WILL DEFINANTLY COUNTS IN PRESENT DAY OUTWARD LOOKING CHINA- IT'S NOT CLOSED UP AS IN PAST AS MAO DID- FOR FEAR OF EXTERNAL PHOBIA, THOUGH IT IS STILL SUFFERING FROM IT.

FOUR, THIS ECONOMIC DOWNTURN GOING TO HEART CHINA BIG TIME- BECAUSE THEIR EXPORT WILL GO DRASTICALLY NOSE DOWN AND THEY CANNOT KEEP FINANCING- ALL MONEY LOSING COOPERATIVES IN HINTERLAND- CAN'T KEEP INTERNAL ONE BILLION POPULATION WITHOUT WORK UNLESS MASS DEMOSTRATION ERRUPT ALL OVER CHINA

SIX, ONLY EAST COST ,COSTAL REGION IS DEVELOPED REST OF COUNTRY IS IN THIRDWORLD DEVELOPMENT STAGE.

Tibet situation
by on Mar 19, 2008 06:17 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Sorry guys as much as I love the Tibetans, we have done enough for them, providing them sanctuary, economic support etc. As we look towards the futue India needs to tread a close walking balance not to antoganize the Chinese given (i) we are looking for a parmanent security council spot (ii) We are next to China which still is the stronger power (though we are narrowing the gap), (iii) We have an achilies heel as well i.e. Kashmir!! If China decides to play that card we will be f--ked. SO Keep all your so called humanistic politics to your self ans think as India and explain why we should act at all. Our focus is not to take any position that jeopardizes our political position long term. So yes as people we can support the Tibetans, send them money if you care!!! Dont expect the government to open up a can of worms which can hurt us long term. We have to learn how to balance the US, Isreal, Germany, France and England vs. China, Middle East muslim countries vs. Japan etc.

by shiva on Mar 19, 2008 07:33 AM  Permalink
Good, more practical & wise approach.

Many are out looking for trouble. The only problem is others will give us back with interest. Don't we have enough enemies? It is easy to take hard views sitting in the comforts of our of our homes (I hope, not in the offices!).

Tibet issue has to be tackled at an international level. For that, let us help with useful inputs. Soft pressure is more of help than hard posturing. Though there are street protests, many in the western world are more interested in better relationship with China. China speaks with one voice, while we have people even in our ruling front who can create enemies out of friends. The opposition will of course change track when in power!

We should do our part in having better relationship with our neighbours. China is not only friends with Pakistan, Myanmar is closer to them. Bangla Desh, they are not that friendly to us. So in the end we can be surrounded by a hostile crowd, may be of our own making!

Let us work to really get what is due. An UN Permanent Membership in the Security Council. Even nuclear energy on favourable terms. And of course, we can quietly, help others including Tibetans. But let us not be a world policeman. Somebody else, more powerful, tried and ended up with bloody nose.

I strongly agree with your views. Possibilities and probabilities should be computed before the action. I think, your thought is more appropriate and suitable at this situation.

by V S on Mar 19, 2008 08:25 AM  Permalink
On the contrary I think India should be more assertive on tibet as before 1959 Tibet was never a part of China and China has always undermined India and it's interests.

China already plays the kashmir card all the time by supporting pakistan so your point on kashmir is moot.
