Indian Police
by Bob Seth on Mar 10, 2008 05:28 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

One thing the aam aadmi of this land must be certain of - the Indian Police Service(IPS) was never created to protect and serve the masses - they were enlisted as enforcers(govt goons), whose 'job' it was to protect the British Raj and its White Sahib overlords against the restive brown-skinned natives - in sum, the police, who were given wide lattitude, were just govt-mercenaries, who were held in contempt, hated and reviled by all.

And even after 60 years of 'independence', the police still maintains the very same mindeset, except now thier job is to serve and protect the corrupt powerfull and the moneyed politcians and overlords That'd why the police cannot be depended upon to help, assist or protect the amm aaadmi - not now, nor ever, has been their mission.

Goa tourist murder
by Rajib Dutta on Mar 10, 2008 05:06 PM  Permalink

From the various reports that have appeared in rediff, certain facts are now open to the public :-
1. Drugs, prostitution are pretty open in beaches.
2. Drug consumers are mainly foreigners.
3. Drug peddlars are Russians, Africans, certain Europeans and locals.
4. A lot of properties are owned by foreigners.

Where are we heading to? Goa is a popular tourist destination bringing in a lot of foreign currency. Not to mention that it is one of main earning source of Goa. If Goa becomes notorious for the wrong reasons, then even Indians will stop going.
How can foreigners indulge so openly in drug peddling or other illegal, activities? What is the Govt. or Police doing? In the end these foreigners will go back to their country with the ill-gotten money and the loss will be of Goa's and the country. Why can't our Govt. be strict?
It is a shame for our country that a 15 year old girl dies for wrong reasons. Imagine India will feel if an Indian girl dies for the same reason abroad.

all russians hotel owners staff are into drugs..u visit any hotel and the staff will ask u about call girls/drugs.even the police are hand in glove with the drug dealers .so if a case of drugs comes over it is but natural for the cops to fudge the case.even the local politicians have a hand in these dealings.u think goa would be so popular without these polticians knowing about drugs!!!
hahaha........funny to ask why police lied.
i also would like to render my help to the family if they need as i stay near goa.
god be with the family in these hard times.

Sad end to sad story
by azmat khan on Mar 10, 2008 04:12 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The death of Scarlette is really sad. It is really shameful that the police tried to cover up the murder. In hindsight, it should also be seen why a 15-year old was left among total strangers, to bask in the company of drug addicts and drunkards. The mother's behaviour is also not totally above board. Of course, she deserves all our empathy and praise to have fought for her daughter in an alien land among hostile forces out to supress the truth. Hats off to her.
One feels really sad for the victim and her family. To stop the slide, the govt and police should ensure that Goa does not turn into a drug haven, where hippie culture and sexual liberation become the order of the day. If the tide cannot be turned now, it can't ever be in the future also. Just hope the policemen who were covering up this crime are dismissed immediately. I have been to Goa myself. I hardly see any quality foreign tourists here. Most are those who would be categorised into the 'salt of the earth' in their own countries. They are just lower class people out to have a cheap holiday, where the easy availability of cheap drugs and drinks in Goa pulls them here.
We are having a real Bollywood potboiler here: tourists, mafia, drugs, sex and what not! Save Goa now before it destroys India.

please we dont want to be a taliban state, we need to develop self control instead of removing freedom from society. sexual liberation is a must, but it comes with responsibility and maturity. it cannot happen in india because we have sexually frustrated religious maniacs all over.

"It can't happen in India".
Give me a break. India is one of the very few countries where such anti-social activities are minimal. Look at the so called liberated countries. 1 in 8 people are gays. People realize their true love even in 50s and dump their entire families. Binge drinking is common even among 8 year olds. Street murders are very common place. And yes, the killers are not terrorists but school going kids inspired by gang culture.

If you call this "liberation" I am better off with so-called religious maniac that has atleast kept Indians in check so far. Be inspired from West but for good reasons. I think we are following West for all BAD ones.

It can't happen as long as kids get proper foundation in childhood and responsibility lies with parents. The sooner current generation realizes it, the better it is for India.

WHAT HAS DRUG CRIME GOT TO DO WITH LOVE IN 50'S????
