Sad end to sad story
by azmat khan on Mar 10, 2008 04:12 PM

The death of Scarlette is really sad. It is really shameful that the police tried to cover up the murder. In hindsight, it should also be seen why a 15-year old was left among total strangers, to bask in the company of drug addicts and drunkards. The mother's behaviour is also not totally above board. Of course, she deserves all our empathy and praise to have fought for her daughter in an alien land among hostile forces out to supress the truth. Hats off to her.
One feels really sad for the victim and her family. To stop the slide, the govt and police should ensure that Goa does not turn into a drug haven, where hippie culture and sexual liberation become the order of the day. If the tide cannot be turned now, it can't ever be in the future also. Just hope the policemen who were covering up this crime are dismissed immediately. I have been to Goa myself. I hardly see any quality foreign tourists here. Most are those who would be categorised into the 'salt of the earth' in their own countries. They are just lower class people out to have a cheap holiday, where the easy availability of cheap drugs and drinks in Goa pulls them here.
We are having a real Bollywood potboiler here: tourists, mafia, drugs, sex and what not! Save Goa now before it destroys India.
