Bad Deal Any Which Way, call it Energy or Strategic!
by Chakravarthy Muralidhar on Jun 22, 2008 03:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The impending 123 Deal with US is surely a very bad deal, any which way and all the way. It is very clear that our PM, MMS, wants to get close to the US. The overall sentiments both from the media and the politico-bureaucratic set up are favorable towards such a consummation. The media, especially the new electronic one, wants the deal to somehow materialise. Everyone in it is connected to the West in general and the US in particular through equity participation or management and technology support/ advice, news-network services, personnel training/ education, etc. As for the bureaucracy, the influential and elite higher echelons are having permanent and 'life-long' association with the US by way of all their kith and kin educated and settled in US. Therefore it is imperative for them to have easy access to entering and living freely and at will in the US. US will definitely not give visa to Narendra Modi, but Brajesh Mishra is most welcome to seek permanent residency!! When any bureaucrat opposes any deal which the US wants, such elements are marked for 'special' treatment when they seek to make private visits to the US!! Such is the dilemma of almost all our politicians! They all need to visit or live partly in US during their twilight years!! The US knows how to use even the slightest leverage it can get to spread its tentacles of control and manipulation to its advantage. Besides, the disgruntled scientists too don't mind if the Atomic establishment gets mothballed!

N-deal
by Tom Dick on Jun 22, 2008 01:50 PM  Permalink

There is not one country in this world who is interested in the welfare of another country. Every one has their own self interest, be it nuclear fuel or natural gas. So it is in our best interest to look after our interests. In any deal there will be some colateral damage to both parties. So one has to assess the potential damage and see if it is worthwhile to go ahead with any deal. One thing we must not forget is that we need enregy and plenty of it in the coming years if we have to sustain the growth we achieved. In order to maintain a reasonably comfortable life style, cheap electricity, be it from nuclear, gas or coal, is required. Political parties must realise that every Indian has a right to ask for cheap power.

Forget Communists. Answer ...Why do you need this 123?
by Dipak Bose on Jun 22, 2008 01:15 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It seems to me Reddiff.com is infested with brainless monkeys ( coming out from Chinese restaurent after the Chinese have finished eating their brains).
You are just abushing Commies and their fathers and mothers, but you cannot answer the simple question: Why do need this 123?

Nuclear plants are all( mainly) in Tamil Nadu, producing only 2 percent of electricity. It would be cheaper for the Tamils to import coal from Australia to produce electricity than to have nuclear plants
Russia is willing to give nuclear plants( with safeguards) without 123 Treaty and is also prepared to give offshore nuclear plants ( without safeguards).
India has enough natural Uranium, there is no need for India to beg natural Uranium from Australia. India is technologically self sufficient to produce nuclear fuel from natural Uranium. There is no need to beg these from USA.

123 Treaty means India will not be allowed to have nuclear weapons.
This is the reason Man Mohan has refused to reveal the Deal with the IAEA, because India is about to sign that deal with IAEA as a non-nuclear weapons state.

There are much more important issues in India. Indian people are slowly dying because of inflation and quickly from devastating floods. But this unelected PM is not interested, he is a traitor, he must be removed.

Dipak Bose i hope u are not a bengali ! after all they are expected to be factual as much as intellectuls. Your commects seems far from facts !
1.123 has no restiction on India neuclear weapon programme.
2. It only wants India not tou use the neuclear stations that we build on some else money and uranium be used for making distructive neuclear weapons,
3. Why on earth does a poor country where millions still libe in poverty requires neuclear weapon, other than hyprocracy.
4. Commies are more worried of funds from china i think. If they want to support china let them go and get the chineese to not intrude in indian soil and boast.
5. US may not be the best Strategic Alley for India but with Dictorship china breating down our neck it is imp we have Bldy Americans on our side you like it or not

When will to Congress stooges be able to see the obvious? We are submitting to the jurisdiction of an internal law of the US (The Hyde Act) for eternity by signing the 123 Agreement. A party which has no majority of its own in the Parliament should not bind a country of a billion plus to the jurisdiction of another country (for whatever may be the gain - for country itself or to a few politicians)

Dear Mr.Dipak Bose,

Please explain to me how on earth at this time we can forget communists. They appear to be holding the trump card at this moment by threatening to derail the whole deal. One cannot pray to God that commies get some good sense, but commies are a bunch of atheists and god does not figure much in their scheme of things. Unfortunately, the commies appear to be taking their orders from China. China will do anything to ensure that India does not get a proper nuclear deal from USA.

Our energy requirements are increasing day by day and the answer is not more fossil fuel burning - coal is a fossil fuel for your information and has associated environmental issues which I am sure you are aware of.

I am not against procuring nuclear know-how from Russia - I hold friendship with Russia at high esteem - after all, they had stood by us steadfastly in the past when US did not. But first we should get the deal through with US and then additionally turn towards Russia so that any one country cannot hold us to ransom. If we turn to Russia first the deal with US may not go through, whereas Russia has no such precondition.

The commies should think of the nation for once; they have already done enough harm. If their loyalty rests elsewhere, we should outlaw the Communist Party.

123 and hyde act are created by congress, to satisfy the pak lobby in washington. They are only advisory, not binding on a president directly elected by the people. India will always have the freedom to opt out and face the consequences. American corpos who will associate with nuclear plants to be built in india will lobby in india's favor. Russian uranium, nor Australia's can be received without IAEA approval. Commies want india to be tied only to iran-gas, via pak, very dangerous in the long run, most western investments in india will wind up and quit, if energy supply is firmly placed in the hands of their enemies.
Commies want only public sector non-worker industries for their partymen, only impoverizn of all people and the govt to go broke, only their own leader families to prosper and remain emperors for life..

Dear Mr.Manmohan Soni,

You are 100% correct. Why is this news suddenly surfacing, if not for the sole purpose of giving weigtage to the new Gandh, great'Rahul Gandhi'? I guess he is the only saviour available to us now!!!

Enough is enough. The Gandhi family needs to be thrown out of the political arena for ever. The family has in the past destroyed our country, and nothing better can be expected of them. The Congressians are a bunch of gutless cowboys. The soon we get rid of them the better off we are.

Vote for BJP. Jai Bharat.

So you r BJP supporter but do not ask your leaders to support NDEal though as per u it is good !Why BJP not supporting it ! Are they too getting orders from Imperilist China! That's why ur BJP traders -regularly go to China as agents -for getting imported products

i was sure that the deal is in doldrums since all equations are closed and hardly there is a chance left for the current Govt to continue in its efforts specially when there is no hearing for the people who work for the nation and world community and current prime minister has simply passed the time in office making no decision to help the last man affected by policies and no benefits has so far reached to

Indian Energy : The right perspective, Continued.
by Mohammad Cadri on Jun 22, 2008 12:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

So the scenario is that America is embarassed or maybe even thrilled at the prospect of bedding two babes in one night, India or Pakistan. And imagine America or rather visualise George Bush blushing when both India and Pakistan are lifting their skirts and telling America " take me first, but screw the other lady" which maybe India or Pakistan.

What happens in that scenario? Boy, I would love to be in George Bush's place then! :-)

Bush would really think we Indians are dumb! You know why? He would think, hell 90% of eminent scientists in the US are Indians and have the capability of generating nuclear Energy! Yet, India is willing to take off her skirt as long as Pakistan get's screwed. The pro BJP'ites have already done that. But they don't realise that the US may take India for half a night and then Pakistan :-)

Which would again make it a post 9/11 situation where we run to our masters, the US with a list. And we get a tight slap in the face. Ask Vajpayee :-) That too after we loose all our honour and sleep with the US :-)

BJPites, lets not sleep with the US. Let other countries do all the sleeping around. "jo bhi daal roti mil rahee hai ussee kaam chalao" Hamare scientists ab bhi zind hain !

10 satellites in one launch is decent indigenous innovation.
We have more than enough land, sunshine and air, something not available to the "elite countries" of the world other than US and Australia. Solar energy is not being developed simply because tropical countries will rule due to energy independence.
If your PC's chip has dramatically high performance, cant you see that Solar chip has already matured in special labs in US? Without the weapon of "economic sanctions", US is doomed to now bow to (or force) new energy giants - tropical sunny countries. US always thinks decades into the future.
Without the ability to manipulate nukes of Indian and Pakistan directly, they have little bargaining power in the new energy scenario. Check out alt-e.blogspot.com or worldchanging.com.
So, this 123. The deal is bad in all possible ways and has no need for any good to be done. Instead if US asked us to purchase electronic security equipments like cameras and RFIDs, we could actually have a better policed state with law and order.
And of course, Sharad Pawar must think about ethanol or a variety of fuel from sugarcane by products.

Mr.Prem Mohan, people like you, without any self-esteem, are the curse of our Country. Despite the US sanctions our scients have developed "cryogenic engines" and we are not in any way inferior to any other country in the world. It is only the arms dealers and politicains who can make money out of every deal that is hampering the efforts of DRDO and such organizations (lack of funds and man-power). Why don't we constitute a task force and entrust them with specific work? They would deliver the goods if there is no interference.
