Congress may have won battle, but could lose war
by Narendra Kumar on Jul 23, 2008 07:46 AM  Permalink

How sad, Indian politicians are not too much different from street dogs. So eager to feast in the garbage dump. I am sad that India has been Twelve-O-Clocked with this UPA win. Why me, even, many of the native Americans think this is bad news for India's long term interest. MMS has sold out for selfish reasons - blood is thicker than water. India! get ready to be another Iraq!d

Kalam (our hero) said something good ... doesn't make the deal great
by SKS on Jul 23, 2008 06:19 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

There lies the problem. if someone people think a hero (even Shahrukh Khan) says something, everyone starts believing him without even thinking anything about it. I agree Kalam has good knowledge on some of the things, but he's not a nuclear scientist. Most of the indian scientist (they of course know much more about nuclear technology than Kalam) world over have serious doubts about the viability of this deal. Until unless those concerns are addressed, the deal will create more problems than it will solve.

How much power will be generated through nuclear technology?
How much will it cost?
Who will provide the technology?
What about the environmental effect, how the nuclear waste is going to be handled?
What if the US decides to stop supplying raw materials and technology? etc.
I think Govt. should have taken the scientists opinions on these issues before even thinking about the deal. There is no point in getting some unsubstantiated data from unknown source to answer these questions. We just need scientists to debate extensively on this. In stead, the Govt. has used unscrupulous means to stay on the power and push the deal. I can say for sure, it is a black day for democracy.

its not the question of kalam supporting the deal but a muslim is supporting the deal. these f.ck.er. politicinas like amar singh and mulayam singh on the back of kalam sending the messgae to their vote bank that they are aligning with congress not for power but for well being of country. they want to send message that the deal is equally good for muslims so have faith in us and vote for us in elections. the fact of the matter is that mayawati is treating them like street dogs in UP and they want selter. i bet not a single SP MP can explain what is nuclear energy and what are we gaining from this deal. but we have to support the deal as we want to remain in power......

Welcome to N plants but danger hangs over head
by Rajendra Nayak on Jul 23, 2008 05:47 AM  Permalink

India will be a new target for all terrorist outfits and next will be nuclear plants. This is because you can purchase anybody at any price. It is the army which will have to look after these nuclear plants and not civilian defence guards like CISF etc., who have questionable integrity.
Maoists and other terrorists are yet to start their activities because they have already declared that they are against US. So US targets in India will have to be protected. With severe DROUGHT of the CENTURY in 5 southern states and all the chaos around, it will be difficult to run the country.
The win at the parlament doesnot mean that it is winning the 1 billion plus population. There will be engineered riots etc.,
It is the beginning of the end for the Indian subcontinent.

Congress Win-conGrAts
by ashok on Jul 23, 2008 05:15 AM  Permalink

It is very satisfying to note that the Congress has won the trust motion quite comfortably. As a matter of fact, i would like to congratulate Mr.Rahul Gandhi for his excellent speech in the parliament. He has good delivery and presence of mind.Above all the contents of his speech were very relevant. He is going to be to-morrow\\\'s parliamentarian.I feel other MPs should learn from him. There is need on the part of each and every MP to grasp the subject and talk on the subject and educate the people,as it is their duty as a representative to enlighten the subjects.I now like to draw the attention to the farmer\\\'s story ,narrated by Mr.Rahul Gandhi.Kalavati\\\'s case is the burning example of our poor farmers. We have done disservice to our farming community and therefore, they commit sucides.our banks have not given adequate and the required loans to our farmers.Only farm production loan is not enough;there is a need to render non-farm loan along with the production loan by commercial banks.NABARD has not done in any manner substantially on this score;they have not given COMPRESEHENSIVE LOAM to the farmers so far(I.E PRODUCTION CREDIT AND NON-PRODUCTION CREDIT together, which is required for other than farming activities to supplement their income.I, as Consultant in NABARD(1974-78),did prepare a comprehensive scheme for farmers in the NORTH-EASTERN region.Dr.R.K. Hazari(Then Dy.Governor,RBI & Mr. M.Chidambram -then MD.nabard, did approve my scheme, for implemention.Had

I am so happy that our Prime Minister has won the vote of confidence. Indians would have had to bow their heads in shame if Mayawati had become the Prime Minsiter. The thought itself is disturbing. I think we should have presendential elections where in we have the right to choose our President. This will ensure that only educated and good people are elected in the government. I also hope that Manmohan Singh gets a second term. It's a matter of pride that our PM is one of the most educated PM's in the world.

BJP is Nuked on this Nuke Deal Politics big time.
by natsiva on Jul 23, 2008 01:19 AM  Permalink

It was so pathetic to watch the Cash-for Vote stunt by BJP MPS. First, The Speaker and the CBI should confiscate that 1 crore money if it doesn’t belong to those BJP MPs. Then the truth will come out whether this a stunt orchestrated by BJP or not. In my opinion, BJP should not have opposed this nuke deal. They are going to pay a big prize in the upcoming general election. All the small parties and the Left are going to flack to Mayawati and BJP’s NDA is going to divide the anti-UPA vote and is going come third in strengthwise. In spite of the inflation, in the upcoming May 09 election, I am predicting a landslide victory for Cong-SP-DMK-TMC coalition and a distant third for BJP’s NDA while Mayawati’s coalition is going to be the next major opposition. Left is going to loose in WB while TMC-Cong alliance is going to gain. Cong-SP coalition will gain some seats from Mayawati. While BJP-AIADMK may make some inroads in Tamilnadu, it will not be enough to beat Congress dominated UPA. Congress will prevail in AP and is going to win big in Karnataka (no wonder 2 BJP Karnataka MPs supported UPA today

Great day for India, Sonia and Manmohan Singh.
by natsiva on Jul 23, 2008 01:10 AM  Permalink

I was a anti-congressman for the life of me of 50 years. I was against Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi and Rajeev Gandhi’s congress. But, 4 years back after winning the general election, when Sonia handed over the reins to Manmohan Singh, I started to notice that Sonia is different from the rest of the Gandhi Clan. Although the rest of the Congress Party hasn’t changed yet, the top leadership is more matured and when the Chips are down on the Nuke Deal, they did not hesitate to take action. Today, I also witnessed Rahul Gandhi’s speech on the parliament where he was praising Vajpayee’s contribution to the Nuke deal whom I also admire when he ran the country during difficult (kargil) time. That is the sign of maturity at this young age for Rahul. The difference between Rahul and his late dad is his mother Sonia’s influence in rearing him well as well as slowly bringing him to politics. Having said that, I cannot say the same thing about BJP’s leadership especially LK Advani. Their Cash-for-Vote stunt today in the parliament is pathetic. First, the speaker and the govt should confiscate that 1 crore money if it doesn’t belong to those BJP MPs. Then the truth will come out whether this a stunt orchestrated by BJP or not. In my opinion, BJP should not have opposed this nuke deal. They are going to pay a big prize in the upcoming general election.
