Dr. Manmohan Singh our Prime Minister should listen to India's two biggest party the BJP and the Left. This nuclear treaty may appear great in pen and paper. Although we do need Nuclear Energy and Technology in the future but how cost effective would it be, that we must see. We cannot compromise our sovereignty that we achived with great difficulty and under stress, nor can we jeopardise our fragile economy. The Uranium Based Nuclear Power Plants that is to be forced on India by the advanced countries such as USA and Europe, will not be India's interest. We all know what happened to the first and only US Nuclear Power Plant in Tarapore, when USA stopped uranium supplies soon after Pokhran I in 1974. We also know of the Naptha Based Enron Power Plant at Dabhol. All these took place during the Congress Regime under various Prime Ministers. Does Dr. Singh want a repeat of the same in the future? Why is he hell bent to hand India's future generation with a White Elephant that no Indians want. Why does he want to hijack India's Billion plus conscience. I have to suddenly turn to the Supernatural Omnipresent Almighty to stop this deal at any cost and ease the yoke of burden on the poor Indians. Does he think if he puts a sack of heavy Gold on the head of a frail Indian, he makes him rich, where as the condition is that he cannot use the Gold without USA's permission. Please let there be sanity amongst the congressmen to relook the treaty once more. After all what's the hurry.
Dont hide anything on hyde. Make it transperant to public. Dont cheat public. Be true to India. We cant expect the Congress Head to be loyal to India as she is a foreigner.
Thank God! At last they (congress)admitted that there is hide act but not least as they can save their hot seat (primeminister chair)if they broke the hide act.
Not withstanding the nuclear deal left unwittingly has caused the cattle trade. Fense sitters like Sibu, HD Deve and the like are making a farse. Whom to blame and what is the cost?

:) Left hasn't caused any cattle trade..... that's something Congress is well known for...
Don't apportion blame so disproportionately mate... ;-)
Nuclear tests are more about symbolic value. But every time India tests a nuclear device, Pakistan will be right around the corner testing it's own device, which encourages many nations that still have no clue about nuclear weapons. Why can't this be done away with?

Vikram: I understand your logic but lets look at history first why India conducted n-test.
a) US has put up n-weapons against India in 1971 war with its USS Nimitz warship. However, US did not commit itself into war. Infact, this was one of the main reason among others why we did not continue 1971 over the west. Henry Kissinger accepts it and feels it was a mistake.
b) Then Indira immediately changed Indian policy and accelerated n-weapon program. After Pokhran-I, NPT was brought into existence splly targeting India.
c) Pak started nuclear dev. in 1978 and in 1990's AQ Khan stole technology from Denmark. India fearing that, again started developing n-weapons during rao's govt.
Now, coming to ur logic that if India stops, other countries will make Pak stop. I don't think the world gives enough weightage to Pak anymore after their requirement is over in Afghanistan. It will anyways be taken to task once US and Pak seperate out.
And, India now no longer looks at silly countries like Pak. We've china up there. Further, we dont need n-weapons any further and Vajpayeeji has already declared permanent moratorium.
But, the issue is we are not getting into any commitment without getting the rights that N-weapon states get. China is in NSG group. Whereas India is not. So, while buying through a cartel, we need to be careful. China is one of the member of the cartel.
Anyways, with the suggestion of Advani, UPA is going to change our local act and N-deal will go through!

Despite the media hype against paki, the real threat is China and we need to prepare against the chinese rather than pakis. Pakis on any given day in the future will be several times weaker and bombing just a couple of cities there will make it practically non-existent. It is a parasite on China and US. It is being used against India by the Chinese.

Do you seriously think Pakistan develops nuclear arsenal AFTER India develops it?... ;-)
RE:nuclear tests
by Vikram on Jul 19, 2008 04:14 PM Permalink
Pakistan's nuclear programme has only thing in mind. India. If India stops testing, major powers of the world will pounce on that nation and curtail it's nuclear program like anything, while India can go on to build it's nuclear arsenal without testing. Pakistan's influence in testing fades by a big margin and the necessity of it's nuclear program in the minds of nations like USA, if India stops testing. No one wants Pakistan's nuclear arsenal to be multiplied.

:) India didn't test between 1974 and 1998..... did Pakistan's nuclear program stop?.... how many nations "pounced" on that nation to curtail its nuclear program like "anything"??... ;-)
USA has been giving Pakistan the biggest support in the name of Afghanistan.... and now it has China supporting it.... What makes you think China will stop supporting Pakistan?....

Yeah... and obviously we have to give up that control Immediately, which they'll give up at their leisure in 15-20 years.... IF AT ALL... ;-)
Keep going... you'll be a star in politics surely.... some day .. that is... ;-)

174 nations signed CTBT, but only 120 have ratified it....
In fact, the Godfather to the world -- USA -- hasn't ratified it, and expects that the world must rely on its moratorium so far as test bans are concerned.... nor has China ratified it...
India has already declared a "voluntary moratorium" already.....

If USA, China and India agree to ratify it in due course, Pakistan will have to wind up it's nuclear program.

When Chinese economy and strategic importance comes close to that of US. Another 15-20 years. They will have to sign it eventually, to make peace with each other in nuclear terms.

If India signs a treaty that it will not conduct any further tests, that will have a detrimental effect on Pakistan's nuclear program. You don't seem to get the logic at all. Please don't argue for the sake of arguing.
RE:nuclear tests

India is among the few(6-7) nations which include Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Iran, Pakistan, North Korea that did not sign CTBT.
RE:nuclear tests

Signing it has it's own meaning. India is in the company of a very rogue group of nations by not signing it. So why not just sign it. I don't want to see India in the company of those rogue nations, neither will most of Indians.

In fact the so called Godfather of the world USA itself hasn't ratified CTBT, and others must rely on its "voluntary moratorium", which is something India has already declared, by the way.... :-) :-) Any counter-thoughts??? ;-)

YOU are arguing for the sake of arguing.... :-)
Coz India is signing NO TREATY which says that it will not conduct any further tests..... WHY should it sign it by the way? When no other nation has signed it?
YOU seem to be arguing for the sake of it, by the way... ;-)

Pakistan is in no "lot of trouble"..... any answers why not?...

Things changed a lot now. No one trusts Pakistan because it is the center of terrorism. It is in news for all the wrong reasons unlike 1974, 1998. Many nations are now worried whether terrorists like Al Qaeda or Taliban can get hold of Pakistan's nuclear weapons.
RE:RE:nuclear tests

Well, if this nuclear deal goes through, Pakistan's nuclear program will face a big set back. Many nations kept encouraging Pakistan or kept mute to it's nuclear program as Pakistan kept blaming India for it.

True. It's an aspect to be kept in mind. But that's not all. The point of concern is not to loose the liberty to go for it when required.
After lot of drama and on the brink of trust voteWHY IT IS TALKED ABOUT HYDE ACT COUNTER ACT?This proves that opposition and lest ARE RIGHT THAT GOVERNMENT IS HIDING FACTS. ITs a Shame on PM to play like this AND COVET TO GO IN TO HISTORY??HITLER ND GODSE AND MIRJAFFARS ARE IN HISTORY?ONE MORE TO BE ADDED???WHY?

I do not know much about hitler or even godse. But Godse cannot be equated with Hitler. Godse had conviction in what he did. He did not have the goal of assuming leadership.
What idiots they are. This was suggested by BJP 1 year back and Govt. just cold shouldered them. Now they agree after creating all this chaos and on the verge of getting defeated.
