Left, patriots?
by VASUDEVAN V on Jul 08, 2008 09:24 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Only one comment. The PM says that the Left are patriots. To me it seems to be laced with sarcasm. Left and patriots. A good joke!

Manmohan gave us what Atal refused: US expert
Author:
Publication: Deccan Chronicle
Date: July 22, 2006

Former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was not willing to "offer much to the United States in exchange for the (civilian nuclear energy) agreement, we got more from the government of Dr Manmohan Singh," according to Dr Ashley Tellis, senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Dr Tellis worked with US officials on the nuclear agreement with India.

Dr Tellis, who was earlier posted at the US embassy here as adviser to former ambassador Robert Blackwill, told Internet news site Rediff that the Vajpayee government also wanted the deal, but one could not be reached because it was not giving much to the US. He said he could not disclose what Washington had wanted from the Vajpayee government but had been unable to get.

Asked by the reporter if Dr Manmohan Singh had caved in "easily", Dr Tellis said, "There is no question of Dr Singh caving in, India has got a deal that it would not have got in the past or in the future." Sources close to Mr Vajpayee said there were three points that his government was not willing to concede to Washington with a clear record of this being established through the Jaswant Singh-Strobe Talbott talks. These concerned the CTBT, the moratorium on fissile production and a proposed restrain in the nuclear regime. The bills now pending a vote in the US Congress clearly seek to "cap, reduce and eliminate

And What is that which Atal did not give?
But PM Manmohan gave? Its definitely not his turban - since that is the only thing he personally have more then Atal. So what did he gave - India's sovereignity?

both Atal Vajpayee and MMSingh are good for the country. ABV continued reforms and MMS initiated reforms in the first place. Both are stalwarts and foolish people who do not know anything about science make a song and dance about nuclear deal. For your information, BJP is pro-deal and is opposing deal only for politics sake. Also Brajesh Mishra national security advisor to previous NDA is also pro-deal. Our APJ Abdul Kalam is also pro-deal. Only people opposing deal is left. Even Laloo Yadav is pro-deal. SO before scribbling something know the issue at hand you duffer

Sonia's trick..
by Mahesh on Jul 08, 2008 08:58 AM  Permalink

Sonia might have played a trick by asking the PM to go to G8 summit saying the Nuke deal will go through and go back on the deal after PM returns from there. This is the reason Pranab had set a meeting with the Left on 10th. PM wanted to make sure such a thing does not happen and hence he made it clear publicly that the deal will be taken to the next stage. Now the Left is furious.

Do we really need Nuke power
by sanjay rai on Jul 08, 2008 08:26 AM  Permalink

Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

We appreciate your missionoric zeal in getting this agreement through. We also understand that a government, which has failed miserably in allaying the problem of common man, should welcome a move to become sacrificial goat, which may offer them some sympathy. Afterall the nike issue has taken a centrespace from inflation, a grand design by the government. A deal which was put on backburner became the most important business issue in last days of present government is not a coincidence. Mr. Manmohan Singh, the politician in pure conress mould has arrived.

Good Job
by Samrat on Jul 08, 2008 07:57 AM  Permalink

When I started reading these comments on Nuke deal, people were criticizing MMS and Congress for not going ahead and calling MMS spineless. Now, when they have found a way to do so, the people (same people, I feel) start to rebuke them as 'Drama', 'mushroom politics', ' United Pseudoselcular Alliance', etc.. I think, those people are daily wage writers (most probably for BJP), without any conviction or stand of their own. They are a disgrace to this forum and Nation at large. We have to accept the fact that Congress, UPA and MMS has done something GOOD for the country.

Heard that CPI(M) had a force of motor bykewallas who ran a terrorist raj at Nandigram in WB. Are they dead to create havoc in Delhi? Aren't they siding with Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechuri? What a shame! Pity.

Deal
by Vikram on Jul 08, 2008 06:00 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India needs the nuclear deal as much as anything. USA is a declining power and it has reached it's peak. India can make use of the deal given the USA's current position. When India grows in power and stature, the rules of NSG become less effective. Let's work towards that and congratulate the PM for the deal and wish it goes through all the necessary clearances.

India gets uranium even without any deal. Russia has offered four nuclear plant and uninterrupted supply of nuclear fuel. Why does India have to get tied up with IAEA.

Yes Russia and any other country, including the US would like to supply unlimited nuclear products. But that is on the assumption we would sign the deal and get clearance from the NSG.

So NSG clearance is a must. Other friendly countries may like Russia and France may have a deal with us on conditions less strigent than those signed with India while countries like Australia may do on conditions even more stringent than with the US.

Without the US support, there is no way we can get NSG clearance

Congress has no knowledge about their alliance:

Congress worked as a goon against SP of Mulayam Singh in UP just before the Elections.
Congress removed RJD of Laloo from government in the name of lack of development.
Congress worked as a goon against NCP of Sharad Pawar, however they got more seats than Congress in Maharashtra
Congress worked as a goon against JD(S) in Karnataka and it was not ready to give anything
Congeess worked as a goon in J&K against PDP and played politics of appeasement.
CONGRESS IMPOSED ANTI-PEOPLE POLICY AGAINST INDIAN PEOPLE AND BRUTALITY AGAINST THE LEFT, HOWEVER LEFT WANTED SOME PRO-PEOPLE WORK FROM CONGRESS.

go to google and search 'Sahadevan blogs'.

Indian nuclear reactors are running at 30-40% of their capacity due to lack of availability of nuclear fuel. Russia can help only when the NSG clearance is made.

That is because of incompetency of Kangressi and propaganda that 'nuclear plants are running 50% because of lack of fuel' so that India is forced to sign.
how come this was not an issue in the previous government?
