I stay in Australia. A lot of people have always asked about arranged marriages. They think that Indians who have an arranged marriage never see there would-be spouse before the wedding and both the girl's and the boy's parents make the decision. Though this does not happen nowadays ( the boy and the girl meet a couple of times, talk to each other about there likes , dislikes etc and then agree/disagree to get married).... most of the people think that arranged marriage is an attrocity for the youngters in India...I guess if it was an atrocity the divorce rate in India wouldn't be so low as compared most of these western countries.

Very good point R!! The problem is not with how they view our system, the problem is how much confidence we have in our system!

In India the divorce rate used to be low because women had no other option but to do as her husband suggested. What freedom did woman enjoy? How much say did she have in anything? Since she was dependent on the husband in every way, she couldnt divorce at all. Since women are having more financial freedom these days, they wouldnt mind divorcing. get your facts right before posting

should follow what: of suppressing women? of dowry? of formale foeticide? of giving preferencial treatment to boy child? of not letting women do what they want and marrying them of? finally claiming that our culture is the greatest and others should follow the same? that is what hard core muslims are also doing!

Where do you come from? Some backward village of Tamil Nadu or Kerala? All the things you mentioned do not happen among the literate, sensible Indians. I have a solution to India's problems in general. Just carry out a national survey to identify all illiterate, non-sensible, useless people and shoot them all. It takes care of the population, resources and all seeds of trouble. Until that is done, upholding any good attribute for all of India would be an impossible task at least for another 30 years.

hey.. i stay in Swiss.. i think you don't understand about the marriage-divorce system in foreign countries. the compensation is very much high in divorce cases when compared to the Indian system. so they all prefer to have out-of-marriage relation and are happy having children that way.

well if you leave some educated population in India, Generally wife has no value she waits whole day at home, suppressed by husband and in-laws Actually woman has no equal rights they are told all the time what to do, which is simply just not possible. please see How many Dowry related deaths in West ???????? Don't be proud of things like that , be rational
Before we criticise what the world doesnot know about India. Its better to sweep under our own carpet as to how much Indians actually know about the other countries of the world esp. western countries.
Not only that even the Indians living abroad for long, hardly know anything about the country they are living in. Most of them even dont the language or anything about the culture(esp. Europe)

I am a student in france ..I m sure all the educated Indians would know a little about other countries atleast the big ones ,, but the educated students atleast most of them do not nothing about India ..Like the author has said ..its the same here ..They think all are hindu ..secondly what language do u speak..hindu ..First i came across such questions from mexican friends ..for the europeans we are a poor country but its upto us to tell them about our country and let them know where we stand

Hey, Actually name of was country Hindustan, now it has become India so they are right when they ask If you are Hindu.........How much do we as Indian know about Holocaust ?????????or for that matter history of Europe and America or even Australian continent.........and How much about our own history...????????
Here is what I wrote in a post earlier: "This article is bullshit...how can Americans clamor about losing jobs to India if they believe India doesn't even have electricity (I don't believe anyone, even if American, can be naive enough to say that about any country in the world today)!! Americans in general know very little about any county other than their own. The author is lying and totally over-reacting." Some of the replies were along the lines that people think India is a poor country or that they generalize or that this poor image is due to the likes of Satyajit Ray (who is the most respected Indian filmmaker in the West BTW!!) and Mother Teresa (who was the most revered Indian of her time when alive!!), and someone even said Ameircans say "India ia a land of snakes and elephants." My answer is YES IT IS and I AM PROUD OF IT!! I am proud that my country allows habitat for all living creatures. What's bad about it? ONCE AGAIN, this article is PURE BULLSHIT!! What matters is what Indians think about themselves, thats what they take others to think about them, and BTW thats what Westerners take advantage of by not leaving any stone unturned to demoralize them!! Think about it again... nobody teases Chinese like "China is a land of pandas". On the contrary, the zoos across the world dole out huge sums of money to the Chinese for hiring pandas and all pandas across the world have Chinese names. The Chinese Farmers Market in LA (very much like the sabji mandis of North Indi

This is a light-hearted simple article by a 15-year old about his experiences in a school in the US, which should be appreciated in the sense the author wanted to present. I donot think we need to discuss here if Indians or for that matter any other race is superior to others.

What is the relevance of this message in response to my message?? I didn't talk about superiority of races... BTW this "light-hearted" article has generated a lot of interest among people. It has become a hobby of Indians like you to let your nation being made a subject of fun and ridicule!! The author's sense (in case you didn't get it) is quite obvious. He is supposedly tired of being asked questions about his country. And he doesn't have the guts to reply to those questions and is writing the article in frustration. There is no mercy for people who can't defend their country even through words!

Other aspects of present judiciary support acts of vested interests, encouraging corruption. 4) Public distribution system caters mostly supplies only to a part of right customers leaving others to guess or to poor quality supplies! 5) Politics play a vital roll in security and other benefits due to public. 6) Every where corruption. 7) Agriculturists commit suicide or starve in large numbers. 8) When food items are scarce, they are imported at higher costs than that are locally available. 9) High ranking officers don't move to the field, but work on table with mostly false statistics. 10)National exchequers drain by ways of large number of scams that are not recovered but taxes are levied to compensate for the losses.
Indian based outsourcing firms have, in the past few years, systematically deceived and abusived the H-1B program. U.S. Congress has recently launched an investigation on major Indian firms, such as Infosys, Wipro, etc which have been granted a large number of H-1B visas. It is reported that abuses and frauds have been found. There has been an ongoing collective colabration among Indian companies to cheat and beat the U.S. Immigration System. The probe will take at least 4 more months before the initial reports can be released.

What has this got to do with the experience a fifteen year old is sharing. This child should be encouraged for being a good ambassador of India. I always find people straying away from the point of discussion while using this forum.

my dear on, i live in Swiss and i am seeing the lifestyle here since 1.5 years. Contribution to the society/country should be done by all the people living there, not by any one person. how many people perfectly work in our offices from 9am-5pm.? How politely do they speak? these are the 2 basic things we Indians forgot over the period.
