It is a nice article and i believe that when Tarun is saying "Hindu" it means one who belongs and live in Hindustan and not the one who is not Muslim or Christian etc.
This is the time when we are doing great things and being appriciated across the globe.
This is funny but i feels that this entire thing is being sponsored by someone who dont want india as a develop country.

Its easy to do with Maharashtra because the politicians are spineless. This is happening right from the day Maharashtra was created.
hi tarun.nice article.Hope it changes the attitude of ppl.But being a maharashtrian i know hw is it to see ppl coming frm other states(read UP and Bihar)and turn the city into a mess. These ppl are literally 'raping' the city. Its sad to see that cos i dont see any scope of improvement.
I for one is considered a North Indian even by my wife and Maharashtrians consider me as lungi/madrasi
Tarun problem is we all identify ourselves as per our caste/region etc etc . This is mentality carried over from the pre British days, it seems Indians where more Indian during pre british period. I dont see a point in this fight. An Indian should be allowed to live and work anywhere in India as long as State laws and Union laws are respected and observed. If humans did not migrate from one place to another we would have been extinct species by now Congratulations on a nice article written. Look at the venom being spewed by people commenting on the issue instead of trying to come up with objective arguments
This is a great article expressing the anguish of trying to live as a person above divisiveness of caste, religion, region and language. It seems society is not going to let you get away with it. No good deed goes unpunished, as they say.
The problem with Tarun Vijay is that he writes well, but almost always evades real issues.
Ignore MNS tactics and get to the underlying issues.
1. Learn the language of the state. 2. Make regional language compulsory in schools 3. Ensure jobs to the locals.. reserve them, if needed. 4. Ensure housing to the locals.. reserve them, if needed.

The problem is who is considered local
1. If I am married to a northie and I am Marathi, am I still local?
2. If I have lived in Mumbai all my life (2nd gen) and if my mother tongue is hindi, am I local even if I speak/read/write better marathi than most of my peers?
3. If I pay taxes in Maharashtra, am I local
Tough right!! Broaden your horizons, any Indian can work in any part of sovereign India. Maharashtra is not a separate country and the Marathis are hard-working enuf to not be threatened by people who move to Maharastha!!
I agree with 1. & 2. in your post though... Language reflects culture and thats good that you raised it up!!

To be considered a local(for higher studies and govt. jobs) following criteria should be used other than the additional requirement
1)Proven proficiency in the regional language of the state(Some govt. authorised exam or SSC pass with the regional language atleast as second language) 2)Domicile certificate of atleast 15 years. And to allow entry to any migrant into any state- The migrant should have a definite proof of a job at a legal place of commerce The migrant should also show definite financial ability or support of a sponser who will provide accomodation for him/her and family at a place authorised for housing.

A lot of actual locals in most states would get disqualified if these were the criteria. A lot of education depends on economic factors too.

It is always good to learn the local language and it most rude to ridicule local culture. A few bad apples are enough to spoil the dessert.
