Banning sale of mobiles to kids below 16 years is not the right thing to do. Use of mobile in the schools (up to Class X) is necessary to be restricted but by educating the kids and their parents about it rather than banning which can hardly be implemented effectively. Mobiles have acquired a snob value among the young impressionable people. More than the governement ban or disciplinary methods by school teachers, it is the parents who have to realize that mobile is hardly a necessary tool for the kids during school period. If grown ups stop using mobile phones as an appendage to their ears, to talk about anything and everything and restrict it to talks up to 2-3 minutes (may be a maximum of 5 minutes)at a time to communicate messages, the children would also learn a thing or two about using the phone. All the TV shows, polls etc asking for the mobile users to send SMS to express their opinions on trivial things, should be discouraged by the enlightened grown ups. I do not know how many users are aware that most of such SMS cost much more than a normal SMS. In the end it is more about educating and not banning - not just mobile phones but anything with carries a snob value.
When Education Minister says mobiles cant be sold to kids under 16...there are many questions remain unanswered?
1. Can kids under 16 use it for playing games? 2. Can they speak over mobile? 3. Can they make calls? 4. Can they sms? 5. Can they carry it? 6. Can their parents buy them for them?
many questions remain unanswered.....What makes him that children above 16 can use/buy mobile phones?

U R RIGHT, the govt. has to take decision regarding this or if not think about this. Just by banning the sale of mobile does not mean that mbile phoes shall not be used by small children. GOOD THINKING
It is a very good decisicion, that the mobile phones not to use in colleges and school. One Request is the Teachers and Lecturers are not supposed to use their mobiles in the class rooms.
When minister say mobile phones shall not be sold to children below the age of 16 - Does this mean that children who are caught using mobiles will be arrested/penalised/punished/put behind bars/they will lodge a case aganist that kid/parents/teachers?
I would like to know which mobile does his grand children below the age of 16 are using?
At first, I doubt whether can he implement his innovative ideas in his home first!!
Ways of political fanatics to appease the vote banks and show one-up-man ship knows no boundaries. Ignorance of this lot has culminated in banning mobile phones kids. Why not ban anything and everything that scientific world brings to ease the life and send people to primitive life? Let the mobile companies learn how to grease the palms of these stupid people then you can see the difference.

I think the way u r thinking is a big stupid, better not say some one or some act stupid rather
Till now the Govt was sleeping (as Mr. HDD is king of sleep). Since now they have transfer power to BJP, they r up to something to make us think that they r working!! Make be this will become an issue and our Kuppu samy.....sorry Kumaru Samy will not transfer power..... this could be an issue.
First let this Minister of State for Education Basavaraj Horatti instruct his grand kids to stop using mobiles and then implement to general public.

this is a good move by the government although the gray market will benefit tremendously. kids dont need mobiles, its more out a fashion thingie as compared to a practical device. and stop whining.... its not a law preventing kids from using papas phone but a law banning the sales of licensed mobile products, DUMBO

Technology has got pros and cons. If used intelligently, you can benefit out of it. So, banning of mobile phones is a stupid decision. Its anyway not going to stop them from using it. Moreover, no license is attached to mobile products...

Just by having mobile in your pocket, can u solve all the problems on the way to your work, there are many instances where lives have been lost for the sake of mobile (by thieves on the road). Dont take chances, just think the positive side of the rule and act. We Indians always have the tendency to go against the rule or oppose anything that government thinks it's in the favour of masses.

I agree with you Tomahawk and Murugesh and Shabir seem to lack the insight in understanding and appreciating the usefulness of mobile phones. Technology has got pros and cons. If used intelligently, you can benefit out of it. So, banning of mobile phones is a stupid decision
