development at the cost of others
by Ashok Gupta on Mar 19, 2007 03:40 PM  Permalink

Let the politicians stop forcibly or by legislation taking lands from the people for development instead let them hand over their properties to the state first.

its very clear that moaist and Mamata banarjee joined hand again ( last she did with KLF), to just get political gain and nothing else, they are least concern about the development in Bengal. I hope who call themself intellectuals should not forget that this is 21st century, and Bengal need a new face of development.CM should not Resign...

by ABHIJIT CHAKRABORTY on Mar 19, 2007 03:49 PM  Permalink
dear Mr. jain,

True Mamta Banerjee has joined hands with KFL and Maoist. But unfortunately on march 14 incidence no one from police side was injured although Maoist were there and the bullets found with blood stains are not the regular ones used by the police (I think you the CPM supporters were also not there), the Maoist have fired on the farmers. Also the peoples arrested in the brick klin are also Maoist having all the sophisticated weapons and Red flat and CPM phamplets.

At least you should be having some humanity, I don't know who you are but don't speak like a Communist. They are a extinct species only found in some patches in the world.

NOT GOING TO MAKE ANY DIFF FOR CPI(M) / TMC AND NETAS
by ravi K on Mar 19, 2007 03:39 PM  Permalink

It is just the politics that the innocent people are getting killed or raped or looted every time.

Its not going to make any difference on the health of MAMATA / BUDDHA / SONIA / MANNU (PM) / LKA etc.

Ironically all the bandhs, strikes or rallies are called by the NETAS in the India, but UNFORTUNATELY NOT A SINGLE NETA IS GETTING KILLED / RAPED OR LOOTED, its all the public facing the music of their acts.

ALL NETAS ARE COOKING THEIR ROTIS EEVERY TIME FOR THEIR GAINS, ITS NOTHING TO WITH PUBLIC.

PRESENTLY IN OUR POLITICS ALL THE NETAS ARE WHITE CLOTH CLADED MAFIAS.

CM resignation is not enough
by Vivek Jaiswal on Mar 19, 2007 03:38 PM  Permalink

The resignation of a CM is not enough.

The cold blooded and pre-planned murder of poor farmers by the party in power and by terrorists in uniform needs to be prosecuted under all the relevant laws in India.

Till we don't have the policemen, the political leaders and the party workers who murdered over 100 farmers (not the 14 which is the 'official figure') jailed for life - till then justice is not going to be done.

If this is NOT done - the we are setting a precedent and telling our future generations. Hey - its all right to kill, loot, murder and take away all the wealth of this country called India. For in India - there is no justice. And if you are in power - you can get away with murder.

We need to hang the guilty policemen, bureaucrats, ministers and political workers responsible for this crime.

Else - India is now effectively a dictatorship where any form of dissent is met by political beating or killing in the hands of the police - with no redressal.

Think about it.

pathetic situation
by Subhajit Majumder on Mar 19, 2007 03:36 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The recent violence caused by the party workers and police are all politically motivated and TMC trying to defame the present CM. People should not blame CM. he's trying his utmost to uplift the present deplorable condition of the state. we should put our hand with him instead of blaming him. And bongs don't beg, they know how to let others beg.....

Resignation of CM
by Chandan Chattopadhyay on Mar 19, 2007 03:35 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

No Buddhadeb should not resign. The actual reason for Nandigram Firing should be found out and the necessary actions shall be taken against culprits. This CM is trying to do some good for this state. Don't make him resign as West bengal will suffer many years if Buddhadeb goes away. Industrialist are coming to WB not because of CPM or congress but the genuine good intention of the present CM (which he exhibits). If he steps down, WB industrialization will get a major set back.

I agree that the land acquisition should be dealt with a more dignified way and the farmers are to be given proper price for the land and / or job in the new SEZ or industry whatever is coming up. Let Govt of WB give the free hand of direct selling the land to the Indutrialist so that they get better price and 1 per family sould be accomodated in the new indutry .

Buddha resignation
by Kasyap on Mar 19, 2007 03:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If Buddha resigns, it will be the darkest day in history of bengal. The intellectuals are nobody to count upon. Just because they are literary figures,it doesn't mean they understand economics, politics and growth. Bengal can survive and do very very well without them but it cannot survive without Buddha.

Bengal cannot survive without Buddha? Many said that for Jyoti Basu also. Truth is that nobody is indispensible.Somebody has to take the responsibility. Its our spinelessness that we could not find out an alternative for the Left Front. Although this Kasyap has already found out an alternative for the intellectuals of Bengal...namely Buddhadev.

War Cry for the head of the Just?
by Joseph Kulangara on Mar 19, 2007 03:34 PM  Permalink

In all democracies in the world especially in our country whenever an untoward incident happens those who sit idle used to cry for the resignation of the concerned Minister or Chief Minister or the Prime Minister. If suppose the WB CM has to resign on this issue then who is worthy to occupy any seat of power in this country.Let us be more accomodative and pragmatic on issues like this.

what are u trying to say
by ishita dey on Mar 19, 2007 03:31 PM  Permalink

Dear all

I read the article and the responses. Confused and confusing as it might sound to be . It is very easy for us to accuse all sides and not take sides. as for my friend who thinks capitalism laced with socialism is possible it is not not only an impossible proposition but also a ridiculuous thought in itself. Land acquisition is a debateable issue but viloence cannot be taken for granted be it from the state or the party that might be possibly behind this. as far as moving to services from agriculture is concerned i guess my friend sangeeta has forgotten that ownership of land carries varied connotations it is like a fixed deposit, investing in shares to put in a loose fashion. The tussle is not going to end with resignation of bengal cm it is a begining and we should gear up to protest if the need arises... regards
