Yes the US is the only country capable of performing this surgery since they planted the last bug back in Soviet days in Afghanistan, these so called Islamic terrorists are merely spawns of a US breedign program intitated back during Zias regime in Pakistan. Pakistan provided the womb while the embroyos were implanted by the US, now its their bloody obligation to perform an abosrtion for sure.

I absolutely agree with all my fellow indians and 100% believe there can be no REAL democracy in pakistan. First it is the most violent country in the world. Women are treated like cars and I don't even want to talk about the minority situation there.

Being the biggest beggars of the world, Pakistan thinks its at par with India whereas India has progressed due to its intelligent manpower, and main reason due to successive stable govts. Sure there are problems that will always be there but every single analyst recommends investing in India.

A word to pakistan- first stop begging for money, 2nd stop comparing and mocking India, 3rd its impossible to have democracy in a violent country where tempers flare over things we could not even imagine!!

Liars and cheaters never prosper!! Look at balochistan, NWFP, afghan border, Wana, May12th karachi killings etc etc. Killing innocent Kashmirs (indians) has certainly made pakistan suffer immensely. It hurts when someone pinches you RIGHT!!

Pakistan is an utterly failed state. Hope they are having food to eat. I think most of their Chinese scrape misiles are going to be sold in secondary market for their food pretty soon.

The US propped up dictators in lots of places like South Korea, S Viet Nam, Latin America, etc. In Pakistan this is what they did earlier (Ayub, Yahya, Zia) and seem to be doing now.

Small fry

I remember one of the Indian Army Generals calling Pakistan as a small fry and Pakistani leaders as Bandikoots and this suits them perfectly. There is nothing to discuss on a Nation of Hatred and birth place of terrorism.

Democracy in Pakistan
by Vikas Sethi on Jun 19, 2007 06:03 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

America was selfish when it initially did not support the dictator and they criticized it. After the 9/11 u-turn, when America started supporting the dictator and started showering money on the beleaguered country, they relished the thought of being a Non NATO ally. It was the dictators ace foreign policy feat. Today, because America has not yet jumped into their democracy bandwagon %u2013 as per their fancy, they are critical of it. Instead of self sacrificing and gaining democracy the hard way (so that they value it %u2013 something that happened in Nepal), they look to America and the world at large, to hand it on a platter to them. Is the common Pakistani still ready to sacrifice for democracy %u2013 a few letters written in newspapers, a lawyers protest or a small group of journalist protesting (that too when pushed against the wall) is just not sufficient, although it could be a good beginning.

To me it seems to be a simple case of what in India is referred to as %u2018an anti %u2013 incumbency factor%u2019. When they had democracy they murdered it themselves. Now they desire it. 4-6 years of democratic rule and these guys will again need a dictator %u2013 to save them. Only God can save them.

I urge all the good Indians, don't suffocate the voice of Mr.Hamid Mir. He is being challenged by a dictator government and as citizens of next door democratic nation Indians if cannot help at least should not undermine him. He is trying to bring democracy in Pakistan. If we indians believe to be strong enough to consider pakistan as a fry then like a strong nation we should give ppakistani people another chance.

Mush last militart dictator? Nyet!
by Bodh Ramdeo on Jun 19, 2007 06:02 PM  Permalink

The Pak military owns Pakistan - they always have and always will - they will not allow any erosion of thier control over the govt, as they have too much to lose, not just in power-wise but money-wise - they even own most of the real estate in Pak. Actually, Pak generals are the richest anywhere in the world - they siphon off not just military aid, but economic aid as well.
Yessirree, Mush will not be the last military dictator to rule Pak, just the latest in a long line of military dictators.

Democracy in Pakistan....
by Vikas Sethi on Jun 19, 2007 05:58 PM  Permalink

Hamid Mir says nothing new in his column. Every Pakistani commentator, more or less, says the same. These guys are full of gas and nothing else.

It is this entire lot that supported Musharraf when he usurped power by over throwing an elected government. The world protested but these were the guys who modulated opinion and supported a militarily humiliated (Kargil) dictator in the coup by saying that he was the best thing to have happened to Pakistan. (By the way, such things happen only in Pakistan). They celebrated the dictatorship over democracy then, going out of the way to justify it. Today, when the dictator is turning on the screws, they feel the heat and have felt the need to revolt. The last dictator%u2026. These words make me laugh.

And who is the alternative to the so called last dictator %u2013 Bhutto and Sharif %u2013 the very people whom these guys demonized as having ruined Pakistan. The ruiners, then, have become the saviors today and the then liberator is today%u2019s villain. Wah! Wah!! Wah!!!

When the world said the domestic situation in Pakistan is dangerous and talibanisation of Pakistan is worsening, these guys said we stay in Pakistan and know the situation better. The world at large is unnecessarily perturbed and panicky and has made a mountain out of a mole hill. In the last 6 months these guys have realized the dangers prevalent at home only when the Lal Masjid brigade opened their eyes. Fantastic guys %u2013 3 cheers to you.

America was selfish when it initially did not

Demorcracy in Pakistan
by on Jun 19, 2007 05:08 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I fully agree with Hamid Mir, as a common Pakistani, i can definitely observe the change in the minds of common people of Pakistan. Knowledge of common man about the issues regarding politics has increased very much. The current media has played a very important role in enlightening the people about the real issues. And i beleive our next democratic government will be much better as compared to previous ones due to the role of media. And also no general in future will dare to impose martial law in Pakistan because this time people will throw him outside Pakistan.

ashraf

What do Pakistanis know about Democracy? No practical knowledge....only theoritical. Pakistanis should look towards India on development in all aspects instead of enemity.

Ashraf, you had never democratic govt to compare with your next. But certainly, the awakening is welcome, if ever democracy is achieved in Pakistan. Ashraf, it is also desirable from you to look after the developement of Pakistan instead of comparison & enemity with India.

Mr. ASHRAF,
Do you think by bringing back Benzir Bhutto or Nawaz Sharif to power will bring democracy to your country. These are the people who deserted you when Musharaf took over, how can you trust them now? What if the next Pakistani army general take over and the people of Pakistan are again left with these corrupt leaders.
Think over.
Amit

Thats what you people are not understanding, look at America, they have an established democracy over there but yet Americans have selected Bush twice as their President. I have visited 4 to 5 countries and i have not seen any body who is praising Bush and his policies. Now what american should do, they should leave democracy and impose martial law because democracy is giving stupid people the chance to rule. No, Democracy gave them leaders like Truman, Kennedy, Clinton, so what if they got Bush as their President.
Its true that currently we have Nawaz Sharif and Benazir only as main political leaders and i dont hope that these will make an ideal government in Pakistan but still it will be a step towards a democratic Pakistan. And i am sure if we will follow the democratic path, we will get great politicians and leaders.
