Hamid Mir says nothing new in his column. Every Pakistani commentator, more or less, says the same. These guys are full of gas and nothing else.
It is this entire lot that supported Musharraf when he usurped power by over throwing an elected government. The world protested but these were the guys who modulated opinion and supported a militarily humiliated (Kargil) dictator in the coup by saying that he was the best thing to have happened to Pakistan. (By the way, such things happen only in Pakistan). They celebrated the dictatorship over democracy then, going out of the way to justify it. Today, when the dictator is turning on the screws, they feel the heat and have felt the need to revolt. The last dictator%u2026. These words make me laugh.
And who is the alternative to the so called last dictator %u2013 Bhutto and Sharif %u2013 the very people whom these guys demonized as having ruined Pakistan. The ruiners, then, have become the saviors today and the then liberator is today%u2019s villain. Wah! Wah!! Wah!!!
When the world said the domestic situation in Pakistan is dangerous and talibanisation of Pakistan is worsening, these guys said we stay in Pakistan and know the situation better. The world at large is unnecessarily perturbed and panicky and has made a mountain out of a mole hill. In the last 6 months these guys have realized the dangers prevalent at home only when the Lal Masjid brigade opened their eyes. Fantastic guys %u2013 3 cheers to you.
