Bad management
by raja208 on Jan 09, 2007 04:31 PM  Permalink

I am an employee of one of the better airlines. Government's responsibility has not been fullfilled at all as its responsibility for education, infrastructure, policing, etc etc etc. Airlines are not given enough space to operate their passenger and cargo functions. Airlines are given permission to fly and then they start looking where to give them counters for check-in.

Of course I believe in free skies policy but should govenrment allow anyone and everyone to fly.Can anyone afford to fly even one passenger at 6 rupees or one rupee plus taxes on a flight? when even the platform ticket in the railways costs 3 . These so called levellers- those who call themselves airlines who want to give a chance for anybody and everybody to fly -- are going public and getting public money to finance their operations after a certain years. All over the world, airlines are getting closed down due competition and one of the reasons is the cost of the ticket is coming down.

This reflects in conditions mentioned here in the article. Go to any airline cargo offices in DEL,BOM,CCU , MAA and BLR and see the space they have( all spce mostlty got by them by their own without any help

Make it fun to fly-Dont complain please
by Gandhi Sakthivel on Jan 08, 2007 03:11 PM  Permalink

"Flighing is no different", written by the author makes an Indian feel as if, he or she is rooted among the most disgraced air routes in the world. Hey comeon author, you may be right in a few things that you have written.Just because you pay a few extra bugs one cannot become civic all of a sudden. I have seen personaly many good things when I fly domestic airlines. Its not so bad as you say gentleman and please dont disgrace your fellow citizens. They are as unique as you are. May be they will learn slowly.Government enabled to open a rainbow of airlines(as you mentioned), for everybody and not only to A class citizens. Remember the Trains of 1960s..how they used to travel in hassels. Look out now..the shathabdis..its a slow change man...People will make it good. Its the same Indians who fly with diginity in 747 and worldclass airlines. We can change...You can. So next time when you find someone throwing the tag down at the floor,..stop him and dare to say what is needed to be done..instead of writting a cloumn from sitting inside a AC room. Create an awarness the civic sense through various modes..emails..TV's and ofcourse start from hom.Make flying a

The fun has gone out of flying
by hasu shah on Jan 08, 2007 07:12 AM  Permalink

You are more than absolutely correct. The worst
offenders are highly educated class who think they deserve vip treatment because they have some kind of class/status. They show least respect for decency
to other fellow citizens. Indians are not very disciplined lot more so again with educated class.
You have to observe all the functions in USA organized
by Indians and you will see nothing bur chaos/anarchy.
with few exceptions. Go to any indian Consulate or look at airline counters of Air India ay New york and you wonder why things are not moving in order since there is only one flight per day. It is sad but truth. It is diificult to understand why since many of these people have settled down in USa for more than 20 years. The funny thing is the same people in any event managed by White people behave like model citizen. We just do not have patience for whatever reason. Maybe we love anarchy/chaos since we enjoy it more.

Realistic
by Niru on Jan 07, 2007 10:40 PM  Permalink

Yes

The author has described a realistic view of the situation, especially at the Delhi domestic airport. I have experienced almost every incident described by him.

No courtesy : The bus drivers veer through the airport roads and horn loudly. Even among them there is a competetion to reach first. I was holding my 4 month old son and no one in the bus let me get down, later on I gave my son to my aunt and literally blocked the door in the bus and let my aunt get down peacefully. I should say there were some in the bus who managed to get me a seat. I live in the US and once when I opened door for a lady at a coffee shop she said "Your mother has taught you values, brought you up good". I told that to my mom, she was embarassed that she did not teach me that particularly..Anyways courtesy should be a part of upbringing.Afterall, thats our Indian value.

Agreed
by Bhaskar Kumar on Jan 07, 2007 03:06 AM  Permalink

I agree with the author who has his bone with the Indian airports. However, I would like to point out the apalling conditions in the International airports of London, Paris, Geneva. These places are equaly useless. The Charles De Gaulle airport, was more than our bus stands in India. In London airport, due to the fog delays over the christmas, the lost baggages would have shamed our Himalayas. With respect to sitting in the airport terminals in these airports, we need to take a robust luggage, so that we can use them as temproary make shift chairs. Toilets stink.
Regards
Bhaskar

Airport Chaos
by rajan on Jan 06, 2007 01:11 PM  Permalink

Yes the airports do need a face lift and much needed investment. Unfortunately marxist zombies like Beijing Bidwai and the rest oppose this tooth and nail.

Perfect Description of the existing Airport Scenario
by Anish George on Jan 06, 2007 05:30 AM  Permalink

I agree with the author and the frustration associated with the situation.. Probably Indian Airport Especially The Delhi Airport resembles more like a bus stand... And gone are the days where flying was a status symbol....Proper Airport management by the AAI as well from the Airlines staff is the need of the hour...

Hope spomething is done sooner than later
