A leading Tamil member of the Sri Lankan parliament, T Maheswaran, has been shot dead at a "Hindu temple" in the capital, Colombo, officials said.
He was critical of the government's policy towards the Tamil minority.
Sri Lanka has been ravaged by conflict between the Sinhala Buddhist majority and the Hindu Tamils.
Mr Maheswaran, 41, died while undergoing intensive medical treatment around 1035 local time (0505 GMT), hospital sources said.
"The government had reduced his security after he was being critical of the government and the president, so the government should be held responsible for his killing," UNP general Secretary Tissa Attanayake told Reuters news agency.
I think Dhirubhai Ambani, Narayana Murthi and so many other hindu enterpreneurs have done more for India and pride of hindus than Modi, not sure why nobody recognizes this. All that Modi has done is to try and Talibanise hinduism and make people hate each other so that he can get some votes. India has been on the path of progress much before Modi came into limelight and i am sure not matter how much he tries, India will keep progressing and not pay heed to his divisive tactics.

I know that the British rulers could put India in hollow,poor mess with the epithets of Hindus ,Muslims,Sikhs,etc.They were forced to go but we slavishly follow their footsteps so even after 60 years of Independence large number of people live below poverty lines,any kind of development may be destroyed within minutes by riots,and some educated people ,living for their own interest in foreign lands laud to maintain division and divisive approach in India for times to come.People like Modi are their symbol.
We must realize that we all are floating in the same raft and if one makes a mistake we all pay. Secularism is the only answer but pseudo secularism and so called minority appeasement can at best be divisive forces giving rise to extremism. stop this nonsense and educate your friends. Whether you like it or not and if only for practical reasons Hindus and Muslims have to live together in this part of the world that includes india pakistan and bangladesh. There is no other option. so let us do it with happiness. I repeat there is no other option. do not give in to propaganda by vested interestes please for God's sake stop this madness.

Hindu has always wanted to buy peace. Remember even Savarkar did not get much support from Hindus at the height of communal frnzy. Because Hindu by default is secular.But still this has not deterred the Islamic fanatics from indulging in riots after riots, perpertrating a Genocide in Kashmir and vivisecting the motherland. When are the Dhimmi Hindus such as you going to realise that peace will come only when Muslims desire it.

Hindus are quite active in communal violence from partition to 1984 anti sikh pogrom , 2002 gujarat riots and also anti christian violence.
please don't have a holier than thou attitude that hindus are oh so secular while others are all bad.

Kudos.. This is the best post I have ever seen. For all the people who seek solace in identies. Two wrongs can never become right. If a muslim does that we need to pay back in kind is never a good philosophy. Remember Gandhi's philosophy on this?
Incidently, Gandhi only practised what he preached. He derived majority of his ideology including Satyagrah from Christ and Tolstoy.
God is one, earth is one. Religions had come into existence long back to unite man into tribes, so they could survive in their own pockets among beasts and savages. That was relevant a thousand years ago.
Today when world has become one, we have to find a unifying force beyond religion, so we can take care of our Mother earth!!!!
Please worry about mother Earth and not our small pocktes.
Very good analysis Mr Raman. You have correctly picked up the reasons which were beneath the surface. Hindus (not only Gujrathis) wanted an identity and they are identifying themselves in Modi. Congress did employ an army of psuedo-secularists (read modi-abusers) led by none other than Sonia. But the more they abused him, more did he go on consolidating the votes and sympathy of Hindus. Hindus have been watching Congress compromising on India's security by taking a soft stand on Islami terrorism and even scrapping measures taken by the earstwhile BJP Govt to weed out terrorists, scrapping POTA, taking measures to cater to Muslim vote bank (adopting measures like Sachchar Committee reports etc), turning a Nelson's eye to flooding of Bengal and Assam by Bangladeshis, showing lack of guts in not hanging terrorists evenif they are convicted by Supreme Court. At the same time, they always pretended that it is the Hindutva which one should be worried about and not the Islami terrosrism.While talking about Islami terrorists, they never forget to equal Hindutva in the same breath. Hindus were wathching all these and the simmering anger was idolised in form of Modi. Modi spoke their 'Dil Ki Baat'.
I think Sonia & Co. will keep up the good work until next Loksabha elections.

modi won just because he performed and there is no other reason. we people of india needs result oriented leaders who produces results and he is the one who has done it in non-corrupt way. so he is respected everywhere and we see bright future of india under his leadership.
being proud of being a hindu in a secular nation is unessential ....should whites be proud of being white in america ? wouldnt that be called racism? while no one is asking for hindus to hide or be apolegetic about their hindu identity ...that identity has no place in the public sphere...thats all!!!
the hindu sense of grevience is completely misplcaed and is stoked by the BJP and its ilk who would like eevry hindu to believe that ONLY they can make sure that the hindu interest is kept in mind ..

The same News channel you referred to in your article,was highly euphoric,when announcing the results of 2004 Lok sabha elections,declared that congress which got 145 seats out of 542 won a landslide victory.Electronic channels and english news media are becoming more and more sycophantic towards the Gandhi family for reasons best known to them.
Only Modi can save India. But the RSS and VHP tried to kill his chances by working against him as rebels in the Gujarat elections. The VHP chief Pravin Togadia also worked against Modi. These corrupt entities (RSS,VHP) wanted to misuse power and steal peoples' money just like the Congress party. But Modi crushed all these castiest crooks. Modi is bold, ethical, decisive, corruption free. He is like Sardar Patel who was better than the crooked Brahmin Nehru. Modi cares about SC, STs, OBCs whereas RSS stands for just 15 percent of India's population, the formerly Jews now called as Brahmins, the formerly Huns now called as Kshatrias and the formerly Mlecchs called as Banias. Modi is an OBC (just like Sardar Patel and Raje Shivaji) and loves the nation and not fair color and long noses that came to India from the Arab world.
