mahesh lakshminarayan Enough of dempending on Russians. We were under their command for many years at that time they were called Soviet Union. Why Russia? Why not France? But , it wont be very easy by ignoring the United States. They have influnce among west european nations. This will affect us in many ways. We dont need the backing of weak one like Russia.

AMERICA SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT INDIA IS NOT AGAINST 123 DEAL, BUT AGAINST CERTAIN CLAUSES IMPOSED ON IT
by wani bhardwaj on Dec 20, 2007 04:17 PM  Permalink

America and American Lobby should clearly understand that Indian Political Parties are not at all totally against on the 123 agreements, but the certain clauses America imposed on unilaterally and the HYDE ACTS particularly. They should understand that INDIA IS A DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY and have our own procedures to go for any such treaty. Indians cannot again go for colonial rule and we have got our Independence after a strong struggle against imperliast forces and we have studied and understood WESTERN AND US IMPERIALIST FORCES every action very well. Yes, we admit that some forces are here within our country to go for an overall appeasement to the WESTERN POWERS and IMPERLIAST FORCES INCLUDING USA, but INDIANS ARE VERY STRONG AND WE KNOW HOW TO SAVE OUR SOVERGINITY AND INTEGRITY AND TO DEFEAT THE FORCES WHO ARE AGAINST INDIA AND INDIAN PEOPLE.

India should promote for Solar power instead of nuclear.
by Indian on Dec 19, 2007 07:44 PM  Permalink

The nuclear deal will fetch India with nuclear fissile material which can be used to create nuclear energy. It is not as much exciting news as it sounds. If we meet with all the safety features and the fissile fuel rates dictated by US, then nuclear energy doesnot promise the volume and price efficiency as with our conventional methods. Also we will have to agree to the US terms of no nuclear tests. In fact, for India it is more of disadvatage than advantages.

Instead, India should explore more into using Solar power which is becoming more and more price efficient with new technologies like PVD and CVD on glass substrates. Moser baer has already started with this.

BJP will not oppose it?
by Indian Indian on Dec 19, 2007 07:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The so-called expert doesn't seem to understand the important party BJP's ideas. BJP WILL NOT COME AROUND, EVEN IF COMMUNISTS COME AROUND. It is amusing to see the expert talking like a school child, just in too-simple terms of BJP will accept "this deal" or not oppose "this deal". Mr. Expert, get this straight: BJP initiated the activities for "a good" nuclear deal, not "this nuclear deal", which mortgages India to the US (probably for bribes to Sonia, etc.). Since both the US and Sonia have said that they will not re-negotiate this shameful deal, BJP will not support "this" nuclear deal. Period. That has nothing to do with Communists. (If Congress re-negotiates the deal, then BJP may support it; Or, in fact, even if this deal falls through, BJP, when it comes to power, may AGAIN TAKE UP THE MATTER AND CONCLUDE A NUCLEAR DEAL, because, please understand, BJP is NOT against a nuclear deal with the US. It is FOR a nuclear deal with the US, but ONLY IF INDIA'S SOVEREIGNTY IS ACCEPTED BY THE US, AND ALL THE HUMILIATING CONDITIONS IN THE SONIA-CONGRESS-SPONSORED DEAL ARE DROPPED)

I am not a left supporter. But still I think Left parties oppose the deal because they have understood it. They have clearly stated the reasons and the gaps they see in the agreement. BJP doesnt seem to have really thought about the issue. They are "zimply" opposing the deal because they are in opposition.

I am not a supporter of the Left either; and, I too feel that they are opposing the deal because they have understood it, and they are very clear about it. But, I am not sure why you are saying that BJP has not understood it. At every forum, the relevant BJP person has been explaining the problems with this deal, point by point, in the same way as the Left. In case you have noticed that in some fora, the details were not mentioned, it is because, it is not practical to go on repeating the same thing again and again in EACH AND EVERY PLACE. (In fact, you can see the same thing with the Left. Another example, I have gone through the text and details of the deal and the Hyde Act and I have written in many places about the humiliating conditions and other problems. But, I can't again write it here, for want of space, etc. Nowadays, not many people keep talking about the details, because, by now, all the important parties know the respective positions. So, from now, there is no question of 'discussing' and 'enlisting support' etc. It is only the muscle power from now on. That is why, when the Left got weak in Nandigram, Sonia/Congress just at that time extracted a concession for starting the talks with IAEA. And, Congress is just looking for some other blackmailing point, when at the right time, it thinks it can strike the Left and sign the deal in full, TO HELL WITH INDIA'S SOVEREIGNTY)

Us india nuclear deal
by vijay rao on Dec 19, 2007 06:46 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

USA cannot be trusted as past experience. both democrats and republicans never supported India but always equated India with Pakistan. there is no guaranttee it will meet with all the assertions. only commercial interests are of prime importance to it.
the deal should be renegoiated so that india has options for any peaceful explosions for research and developement.
manmohan singh was over confident and would have signed on the dotted line but for the staunch opposition by his coalition partner.

the deal benefits more to US's sinking economy then India and also India doesn't need any help in nuclear technology, India is having enough talent and resources to build reactors

India still does not have capability to refine the nuclear fuel. The deal is all about purchasing fissile material from US. We still cannot be overconfident about Indian talent.

It is important
by Akansha Kapoor on Dec 19, 2007 06:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If the bureaucrats say that the deal is essential 4 indian development, then it must be.
They are the ones who are given the responsiblity of going through the entire deed, not the politicians.
Half the politicians dont knw what the deal is abt.

The primary benefit is that it will provide electricity. There are villages, even semi-urban places where there is no electricity for 12-16 hrs

The bad part of the deal is that India has to agree that there will not be any more nuclear tests and India will be forced not to proceed with any nuclear bombs. So, we will be always forced to maitain our good relation with US. In another way it shuns India's soveriegnity to some extend. That is why Left parties are opposing the deal. Our politicians are not so bad to misunderstand the deal. Situation is still not that pathetic.

In today's Congress style, even the politicians in Congress are servile and act like servants. What to say about bureaucrats, who are supposed to vomit the official ideas, anyway?
And, I feel that you have also just absorbed and exhibited the alibi of electricity for villages.. If you go into the details, you will find that India will hardly be benefitted from the energy angle.. There is something more than than.. Going by Sonia's past activities in terms of bribes in Iraq Oil Scam, Quatrocchi of Bofors, Manmohan's refusal to allocate enough funds for indigenous nuclear research but readily proposing spending billions of dollars in nuclear purchased from the US, ALL THESE SUGGEST ONLY ONE LOGICAL THING TO ME: THAT IS, THE REAL REASON FOR SONIA, CONGRESS AND MANMOHAN PUSHING FOR THE DEAL IS THE MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR BRIBES INVOLVED IN THIS.. And, this logic fits in well with Communists, because, Communists all said and done are corruption-free, and so will not be interested in the bribes part.. and so, they are evaluating the deal from all other angle, and once they find that Sonia, Congress and Manmohan are mortgaging India to the US for these bribes, they are obviously opposing it, and obviously, BJP also opposes the deal in its present form..
