This is his second term as a CM but look at the work he has done in the following terms.Does anyone in Maharashtra remember any work done by him.Look at the following points.
1) Anyhting done in Maharashtra to solve the power problems.
2) Farmers suicide - Still happening God alone knows what is happening to the aid given or allotted to them
3) Law & Order - We have Bomb Blasts (Culprits still not caught).Monsoon Havoc in Mumbai remember 22.7.2004.
4) Look at the quality of Roads. It takes more time it used to 2 - 3 years ago.
5) Octroi nothing done - Gujarat abolished octroi in a single day
6) States like Karnataka, Gujarat have prospered like anything. Maharashtra inspite of having better infrastrcture has lacked behind
The authors history is weak. After Shivaji marathas had many leaders before Mr.Yashwantrao Chavan.Shivaji's Son Sambhaji,The great Warrior - Mahadaji Shjindeof Scindia Dynasty Gwalior,Sayajirao Gaikwad of Vadodra and reformist Maratha King Shahu Maharaj who was from Shivji Maharaj family and ruled Kolhapur seat.
Also one can not compare Shivajiand Yahswantrao Chavan or Mr.Pawar as Shivaji created and founded the Maratha power in stiff opposition of Mughal and other powers, which went on to rule nearly 2/3 rd of today's india and also some time Part of Sindh;while Mr.Chavan and Mr.Pawar are political leaders. A true maratha and a good human being will not question Chatrapati shivaji Maharaj's courage and sacrifice.Only fools will.Aurangazeb was a dirty swine and will always remembered for his cruelty.Where Shivaji will be always remembered for his good deeds towards his people. I think every Indian should be proud of Chatrapati shivaji maharaj. Our politicians should read about him and his mawle.

Well said Abhay. There's a tendency to compare or equate Sharad Pawar with warriors like Shivaji Maharaj. I don't understand what valour other than petty politics has Sharad Pawar and others of his ilk have shown.
If one were to extend the definition 'Mahratta' meaning 'Maharashtra', then we should also include the early Peshwas who extended the boundaries of the Maratha kingdom deep into the north!!

What about your knowledge of history Abhay? Shivaji established his rule by snatching the territory belonging to Adilshah of Bijapur not the Mughals of Delhi.

Well all is fair in war. A tyrant like Aurangzeb could not have deserved better. But I think Aurangzeb died after Shivaji had passed away. Shivaji died young at 52, thereafter Aurangzeb, captured his successor Sambhaji Raje and had him ruthlessly murdered when Sambhaji refused to convert to Islam...his skin was peeled off and smeared with salt, he was subjected to multiple torture before being beheaded and his body hacked into pieces, bundled into a jute bag that was paraded through the streets of Delhi by harnessing it to a donkey.
As far as defeating Aurangzeb is concerned, it must be remembered that Shivaji had a small army as compared to that of Aurangzeb which was also replenished by the foot soldiers of the Rajputs who continuously pledged allegiance to the Mughals. Mirza Raje Jaising was one such great Rajput who despite Shivaji's earnest appeal to ally with him to overthrow the Mughals did not respond. Shivaji had to resort to guerilla tactics to protect the Deccan from the invasion of the ruthless Muslim kings comprising the Mughals, the Nizamshah of Ahmednagar, Adilshah of Bijapur, and Kutubshah of Golconda. Let us also not forget Siddi Jouhar of Janjira.
It's always too little howsoever you write on the courage and valour of Shivaji and few people understand it! Victory be to Shivaji, Victory to Mother Bhavani!!

If one looks at the other side of the spectrum of history, he / she will know that Shivaji in fact didn't defeat Aurangazeb, but cheated him / killed him during his Prayers. Neutral observers say Shivaji is not a gr8 warrior & more a puppet.

Please read history.Aurangzeb was pardoned as he was praying in his tents by two Marath genrals SantajiGhorapade and Dhanaji Jadhav. Please understand Shiuvaji had Muslims as Admiral(naval Head);Artilery Head and Lawyer as well.He had people from all walks of Life and was not only kiong of Marathas or any community. He did land reform to suit common people.Stopped abduction of women and loot of farmers. He honourably sent Daughteer in Law of Subhedar of Kalyan who was muslim and punished his Sardar for abducting a woman.
Please understand the history correctly and don't go by images of Shivaji created by political outfits.
He also used treachary for those who used the same.He never pardoned enemy like Prithwiraj Chavan.

In Maharashtra it is the Maratha dominance in the state politics that decides the fortunes or misfortunes of the CM. To the voters there is no difference between the NCP and the Congress, they share the same political ethos and also the manner of making political decisions. In fact the NCP has been formed only on the foreign origins of Sonia Gandhi the Congress chairman. It is a fact that the real leader of Maharashtra's politics is Sharad Pawar and as long as he is there the political constituency of the Maratha power base is intact. It is immaterial which ever party comes to power, the CM will be decided by the NCP. Mr Deshmukh has no opposition in this sense.
Hundred crores of wheat imported and thrown in sea.As people denied to take it from ration shops. It was imported from Australia at much higher price. Vidharbha farmers committed suicide.
