Too much is up in the air

An unknown future administration and partly well known (utopian) congress is left to decide on this in stead it should be clearly defined now.

Win Win situation for both India & America
by Rajesh Hunsikatti on Aug 18, 2007 03:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I really do not understand whatz the fuss about testing ,??? Why we need to test, testing nuclear programme should be very last on our mind. First think of the benfits of the deal... the amount of power it can generate is unimaginable, there will never be any power cuts and maximum parts of India can be covered by electricity, this will lead better quality of life , also power will be cheaper, and cheap power will help us to grow faster, this will lead to prosperity, and once we are prosperous then we can think of testing and all .. and once we are propserous we would definetly be on our way to becoming super power, then even America also cannot do anything.

And remember one major point America has come to us , with one eye on threat posed to it by China , so it is not that by signing the deal we will lose our identity, It will be win win situation for both countries.
I sincerely hope the deal goes through and it is major success

Rightly said Rajesh,
Last week I was in my village and there was no light for 2 days people were so frustrated with the situation and the government says they don't have the enough capacity.

I think this deal is must for prosperity of the people of this country and we all must make sure that the deal is through, come what may...

I think these leftists just don't want India to progress and BJP has gone mad since they lost power deservedly...

Very rightly said. Left is playing politics & so is BJP. The amount of benefit we will have from this treaty is much much higher than keeping our option open for nuclear test. With lot of simulation processes available theris infact no need for any physical neclear testing

Agreed .. No point keep testing things we can't use.

But the left parties are bribed by China to stall thi deal. In fact they are worried that China will become weak. So their reaction.

BJP just doing what it thinks opposition has to do .. just oppose everything

Nuclear deal
by Deepak kalarickal on Aug 18, 2007 03:33 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The Indo-US nuclear deal will help us overcome the energy shortage which is a big obstacle to our quest of being a developed country by 2020.This deal will also help us to get reactors from russia and france and they will not take it back even if we test in the future.
So the opposition should support our visionary prime minister rather than going at his throat.

LET US BE CLEAR......
by UmaShankar SathyaKumar on Aug 18, 2007 03:28 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In the real NEW world, America need India and India need America....

Though I don't like Americans. There is nothing wrong to get the technology and screw them back like they have done to Germans in 1940-70's.

America is bank crupt. So, they need ASIAN money to buy their bread and butter by selling Nuke or whatsoever technology....

In a multi-polar world, America has very few friends...countless enemies....It is neccessary and in the best interest of Americans to work with Indians to be friends...

Having said that...If they try to screw India..even God will not bless AMERICANS.....

USE AMERICA AND AMERICANS...Give them their own bitter medicine....

The lefts in Bengal made millions poor!! Thats their big achinevement to date.....

Atleast economic policies of Manmohan made millions of Indians to eat three meals a day..

I am one among them...

I agree with you 100%. The way Narsimha Rao and Manmohon Singh handled the severemost economic crisis of india and put India in the path of progress is extremely rare example. Because of their deft handling of the crisis and simultaneous initiation of reforms, since 1991, we are building a magnificent superstructure on the solid foundation laid by the founding fathers of the country. India should always remember these two brilliant persons.

Whatever benefits we may get from the deal....one thing is clear, once the deal starts, we may become so dependant on that , even if we want to conduct a test , we may not be able to take that risk of USA reaction to it.

Even a layman like me can visualize that, then why is out PM so reluctant on signing the deal...

Its a very dangerous deal man....

Dear Ajay,

MANMOHAN is TRUE PATRIOT!!

hats off to Manmohan, even taken statements on his life for this deal..

India is in a die hard situation today as far as electricity production in our country is concern.

Thermal energy cannot be utilised since quality of coal what we get here is difficult. grade III, Dams are option but public dealings & land aquasition is no less problems , try all sources it'll be difficult & burdensome not on good cost benifits

while nuclear energy is best & relatively cheap energy once is production is started, that is capital cost may be high initially but power is cheap.,
we all know POWER CRISIS in India today, one of the major hurdle in making India super power,

also don't forget our other nuclear reactors,
TAPS,RAPS,KAPS NAPS...ALL Require nuclear fuel to run called URANIUM , even though we sorted option through THORIUM.. it could be limited..

Manmohan is true PATRIOT....

well, your definition of Patritism is debatable. I don;t think that US is trust worthy, see what has hapenned to IRAQ, we cannot sigh any accord with US where we become too dependant upon them one day that for even eating food , we may have to get a permission.

Moerover, India is anyway a big threat to US as far as this part of the Globe is concerned. US can just not digest a compititor growing....

Since, US has not been able to convince India in signing NTPT, it has changed its policy towards India and has brought this deal to tempt India indirectly.

Such big decisions are not taken thinking that the man doing it is a Patriot, lets not be so emotional as far as decisions regarding the whole country is concerned.

dEAR fRIEND ajay!!

By this note what you are suggesting is come what may.. we should not go for nuclear energy..

don't forget America is super power today .. one of the major reasons is they have 100.. nuclear reactors..

now where do we stand , you good friend of mine..

remember , you are refusing TECHNOLOGY and not AMERICAN's INTEREST IN THE DEAL..

as far as relying on Americans for this technology... INDIA CANNOT RELY ON ANY COUNTRY.. its self sufficiant & world today has to rely on india..

please don't get EMOTIONAL... Have a VISION.. CLEAR VISION.. PICTURE WILL BE MORE CLEAR.

America is indeed a super power, but India is fast on its track to become an economic power and a future super power if:

1. Dirty and caste based politics is shown the door
2. Only the meritorious to be recognised
3. Aim at become knowledgable rather than becoming and english literate

The deal is going to provide us energy, no doubts about the potential progress which awaits us... but the big question is whether there are any traps lying in wait for us...

India cannot be ostracized because of its refusal to sign the N-deal... our concern should be to unravel the strings attached and to make them public...

If it does and the public assent, then it is the deal of the century for India... but first things first, let us all know what the full pros and cons are...

If Manmohan is patriotic why is not taking any steps to end corruption, which is the biggest evil facing this country. More than 90% of the project cost is pilfered. I don't the so-called-great-men not doing anything in that front.

We have done nuclear tests on earlier occassions also when we were not economically as stable as we are now. Americans were the first to impose sanctions on us, but see after few years they are eager to sign the N-Deal with us.

If we become more stable after using the N-Deal and then conduct tests (if necessity arises) no body can do us anything.

RE:Its dangerous !!
by Sankar Mitra on Aug 18, 2007 04:03 PM  Permalink
Dear Sir,
It seems you under the impression that we can cnduct tests now. Because of the tests carried out in 1998, sanctions were imposed on us and we are suffering because of that. If the deal is signed, all sanctions will go. But in future, if we conduct tests, we may get back to present day's scenario. So is it not better to ecxtract as much as possible till we conduct another test. Between two Pokhran tests, gap was 24 years. Even if we conduct a test after 10 years, that gives us hell of a time to generate sufficient power and save a lot of money by not buying oil and gas for power generation and that also will enhance our Forex kitty.
The danger lies somewhere else. Why do you think America wants to help us with this treaty? They need friends and to put it crudely, they want us to carry on with the Anglo-Saxon legacy in this part of the world. That means containment of China and Iran. On one side they have already got Israel. So India will be another. Japan and Korea are also there. This is where the leftists have problem as they do not understand that in politics only thing that is permanent is self interest. If our interest is served by this agreement, we should go for it. For the leftists, unfortunately, only thing that is permanent is anti Americanism and that is immaturity. Once an Arab told me,"do'nt be an enemy of US and do'nt be a friend of US'. But Indians today are well equipped to take care of themselves.
Regards
Mitra

Just recently France made a 180 u turn regarding the fighter jet spares.
when we have spent billions in the infrastructure, and generating 30 percent of our electricity, a stand off will make us weak.
already when the lights go off in delhi there is high cry.
people only want their present taken care.
considering our human nature, I can see the govt. lack of foresightedness alarming.

I would not say that the sardar has sold India to the west.
but it could very well have.
