ENVY
by Partha Das on Aug 11, 2007 02:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Those rascals siting accross those immigration counters actually get red with envy and anger that a fellow indian lives abroad,a life he could never dream of...Thats the root of such unimaginably daft behaviour..Everytime I walk through the immigration counters at kolkata I am terrified that those bunch of idiots sitting there would try and invent a reason to stop me from entering my country...The day we Indians learn to treat others just the way we would like to be treated,we would be a different nation..Until then we are a story of individuals. My heart goes out to the family who suffered and Im sure the deep anguish will leave an indelible hatred for your own country and its people in one way or the other.

Visas are given on the passport
by nagendra singh on Aug 11, 2007 02:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In the similar case mentioned in the article, the parents say that they left the visa behind. Actually it means that they left the passport behind because Visas are stuck on the passport but our rediff journalists would not know it

Mr.Nagendra, I'm not in favour with the Indian parents of the American child, but would like to clarify you that they carried the passport but not the Indian visa simply because the Indian visa was with the old passport of the girl and what they were carrying is the new passport. I feel you are not aware of this fact. When the pages of a passport are finished(but stamping or visas), the authority issues either additional booklet or a new passport, as the case may be. In this case the old passport become invalid but if any valid visa exists in the old passport then the old passport should be carried alongwith the new passport. So, just donot blame rediff journalist for your ignorance.

Fault of parents
by Pardha Saradhi on Aug 11, 2007 02:15 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hi,

I think that the kid is not at all a threat to India. Its her parents faults,if their can pack all here belongings then how can thier forget to carry the passport which contains "Indian Visa". Its a common sense that if your travelling overseas u should have a "valid passport with valid visa". And regarding the officials their have done their job. A samll adivce to their parents is that never forget u and u r kids "valid passport with valid visa" when ever u travel overseas not only to India but any other country as well.

A mistake is defined as an unintentional error...If u know the reason why u made the mistake u would not make it in the first place.

There are consequences of mistakes... you pay for them. As soon as you show up without passport or visa, you are at the mercy of the bureaucracy. They may choose to do a favour on you, but that's it... it's not your right to demand entry. If you forget to pay for something and walk out of a store, it's legally stealing. It is then up to the discretion of the shopkeeper to decide whether to hand u over to the police or not. It's not your right.

if rules/laws are same for all, then, ????????
by Dragon Cares on Aug 11, 2007 02:09 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

this is totally unfair to this 12yrs old kid. Why do they have this kind of partiality towards common passengers? When they allowed a Minister from other country by issuing temporary visa at Cochin airport, then, why cant they repeat the same to this 12yrs old kid? Is it because Mr.Mustafa is a politician of other country? If all are equal in the eyes of the rules/laws, then, how could they allow a Minister from other country while they didnt allow this 12year old kid? It doesnt make any sense? So, What does this mean? If a passenger is a politician, then, these immigration officials will bend the rule/law for the politician, isn't? Shame on you Immigration officials? Dont you have enough time to check the past records of this passenger? OR Did you simply close your eyes and ears to see/hear the facts? OR Did you try to settle your personal score against this passenger? Every Government official should be accountable and should be held responsibile to reply public people and then only they will behave in properway. Hello guys, dont reply to me by saying "they are just doing their job"; there were so many incidents where these officials exceeded their limits and done whatever they want and make the life hell for the innocent passengers. They cleverly allow the criminals/culprits to escape while they mediculously torture the innocent passengers.

A minister should have higher level of privileges than a normal visitor. Even in trains etc there is something called MP quota.

Ever seen a russian/chinese/French getting guard of honour? If it can be given to the presidents, then why not each tourist?

DO AS YOU ARE TOLD!
by nagendra singh on Aug 11, 2007 02:09 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

if you are required to bring the passport and the visa then do it. Don't blame it on the autorities. There was another option of putting the child in jail/detention etc till the matter was clarified.

WHY DO GUYS HAVE PROBLEM IN OBEYING RULES OF THE LAND?
by natraj tanjore on Aug 11, 2007 02:04 PM  Permalink

When rules are applied stringently by west, we humbly obey without a murmur! But when it is applied in India, people have problems! Mr. Tirthankar Guha, with due respect to his family, forgets that Dhanu (the lady who blew up Rajiv Gandhi) was all but 16 years!
As a family living in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, they ought to have known that identity document is very essential and would they have been allowed entry in USA in a similar incident?
The press also shouldnt highlight such cases and put unnecessary pressure on the guys who are doing their job right! Further if someone has been travelling to india for 12 years regularly, they jolly well should know the basic papers required to enter this country!

deported 12 year old
by tiya k on Aug 11, 2007 02:04 PM  Permalink

Of course the immigration have done right. While the distress of the family is understandably, it is surprising that educated people can talk like that. It is their carelessness which brought on distress to themselves. They have no right to complain at all.
