This guy the cleric, seems to be out of mind. Pakistan is following democratic islamism. It is good for pakistan and its economic growth. Too much of anything is bad for a nation. It is proven, wherever there is too much islamisation of polity and country, the economic growth is heavily retarded. Case if some middle eastern countries have handled islamism with economic growth. Examples is UAE. This model should be followed rather than fanatism.
The maulana is right. Strict Islamic hand chopping, women stoning laws should be enforced in Pakistan. Paki women like Nigar Khan go practically naked..all Pakis should be allowed to become crazy like the maulanas..only then will things will come to a head and Islam will be neutralized and cease to be the chaotic force it is.
Dancing and music express joy. Life in Pakistan is going to be very very sad if spontaneity is banned. I beg to differ from Maulana Aziz: Pakistan was NOT created in the name of Islam, it was divided from India to give a Muslim leader (Jinnah) a place to rule. To do this unecessarily millions were massacred on the Punjab/Sindh border and in Bengal, artificially creating a muslim majority in Pakistan and the present Bangladesh. That itself should be reason to make dance and song part of life there to overcome yet remember the sorrow of the loss of human life due to this hideous political decision. Maybe he should remember that the very people who brought Islam to the India of his forefathers too, were the Turks and Persians whose courts were full of song and dance and drink (grapes were unknown in India till the Muslim invasions.)
whenever i read topics regarding this ongoing saga the only thing that come to my mind is Why rule of religion needs to be enforced when religion always gives freedom to people in order to follow its rules. rules may be tough but if one wants to be known by that particular religion must follow those said rules. but still it provide freedom to choose any option. i do not know much about islamic rules but still i can definately say each and every religion on this earth gives freedom to mankind. when you try to enforce something against will of somone you are just doing a crime as per religions. there are too many religious persons who are doing this crime. the only reason i think is to spread influence of religion. more and more public following MY RELIGION, everyone should follow MY RELIGION and so on. but one thing they are forgetting is that every religion teaches to be a good human being as a good human can be in real means a god's beloved creature. i think we shuld try to be a gud human. let god himself take care of his religion. you just concentrate to be a good human. Live and Let Live.

Toilets were dirty places in the past (and still are in India today! even though they need not be so). To teach hygiene in the past everything was put into a religious context, otherwise how can you convince ignorant masses to respect any law including the basic rules of hygiene? Why else was the toilet always outside the house in the olden days? Why were women kept separately during certains days of the month? Why was washing your hands and feet before you enter the house or pray compulsory? Why did you change your clothes after coming back home and kept them separately from the washed clothes? Why are bedclothes after illness washed separately and disinfected with smoke and medicinal plants in infusion? Why did people use haldi when bathing? Why do you take off your shoes when you go to the mosque, temple or enter a house? All these practises have become an integral part of religion to teach the masses who could not possibly understand the concept of germs spreading disease through contact, that hygienic practises are necessary so you can stay healthy. Please remember that Islam came to India only in the 9th century AD, most of the customs were already there and incorporated into Islam. One thing is to use this knowledge and incorporate it with modern science for everyone's good, not to enlighten the masses just to rule is something else.

good questions to evoke sensibilty to hygiene- i feel you should have researched and included something on the hygiene of the lip-lcok kiss that is becoming a "(symbol)symptom ? of modernity !"

c'mon Jairaj, we speak of develpment and then follow these superstitions. If Allah, really wanted to make going to the toilet as unholy, then none of us would have an ass in the first place. Climbing stairs and saying verses does not make sense at all, if a muslim policeman is climbing stairs to run after a criminal, is he gonna think about saying the verse? And if he does not say the verse, then should the enforcer of law and protector of the soriety (considering he is loyal to his work) should go to hell? Lets face it, the Sharia law may have been set out to accomodate the needs of the society at that time, but today, it is very impractical to follow it. MOreover, I really don't think Allah is worried about what direction you face to take shit. He must have better things to worry about.
