Rosy-eyed rhetoric
by Jaganniwas Iyer on Apr 18, 2007 03:12 PM  Permalink

The article, claimed to be witten "unashamedly from an American perspective" - a claim made by the two authors - cannot mask the fact that the two authors are of Indian origin. Their long stay in America or their being part of an American think-tank cannot obscure the stark fact that their perspective, while civilisationally congruent to what India stands for, does not adequately capture the true intentions of American global strategy. While we are not against any meaningful partnership with America, especially given the Chinese perfidy time and again, let no one in India ignore that while India bellieves in long-lasting relationships and values, America's use for friendships is only to further its strategic interests and prevent the rise of potential challengers. The authors have failed to even mention the spectre of global Islam, which is a civilisational challenge that threatens to overwhelm all vestige of civlised human life on this planet. The propensities for any Indo-American alliance or partnership remain limited so long as this ambivalence about Islam (and terrorism) and our response to it, born out of worshipping absurd notions of politicl correctnes, continue.

American friendship

If history has to be a guide, American friendship lasts as long as it serves her strategic interest. While dealing with USA, we must not forget this fact

Avoid US at all costs
by Serial Tourist on Apr 12, 2007 07:54 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Avoid US at all costs. Its aim is balkanisation of India, from support to punjab insurgency to north east to naxals and maoists to arming pakistan. It is also fianancing mass coversions of Indians to christianity to create future social strife.

Neither friendship is good with US, nor enmity. The best way is to keep it at an arm's lenght.

Is Naxalism old story? They are killing dozens every week. Is LTTE old story? Both are supported by CIA through teh missionary network. US publicly stated in the UN that its aim is balkanisation of India as it considers the country an artificial state held together by the army. Do a bit of reading to understand the vision of US regarding South Asia.

We should support US
by Chanakya on Apr 12, 2007 05:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India and the USA should come closer strategically too. We are already quite close economically.

We have a common enemy - Islamic terrorism. And that is no ordinary enemy. USSR of the Cold War era was far better than this enemy. Throughout the Cold War the USSR was a nuclear power. It was armed to the teeth with nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles. It was governed by a bunch of autocratic men. But in spite of all that they never behaved in an irresponsible way.

But today's Islamic terrorists pose a far greater menace, as they do not have the maturity and restraint of a Super Power. Russians were after all Europeans. And today's terrorists are desert tribes. There is a gulf of a difference between those two civilizations.

So in this clash of civilizations - or rather civilization versus barbarism - all the civilized countries should team up. Whatever half-measures we are taking now to contain Islamic terrorism will come to a naught very soon. The final solution will be to bomb out entire Middle East and North Africa. Barbarism should be met with barbarism of equal measure. To achieve that an America-Israel-India axis will be of vital importance.

In the other half of Asia we have China as another big threat. But it does not require any harsh treatment as of now. It seems to be a responsible Super Power like the erstwhile USSR. It just needs to be contained. That's all. We have North Korea also to take care of. However that is a small fry. For all that an India-Japan-America axis, popularly known as the "Axis of Democracy", is required. That axis has also another important role to play: to prevent the mild Islamic countries of Asia - Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei - from giving any logistics support to the Middle East countries in the event of a full blown war.

We need Australia, Canada, West Europe and Russia for logistic support from two extreme ends. Australia needs to be more involved in the politics of strategic tie-ups.

Dream vs. Reality
by Dinesh Sharma on Apr 12, 2007 04:16 PM  Permalink

Every country keeps its National Interest in mind while taking any step .. as India did at the time of Voting against Iran in UN or Russia did by not supplying Kryogenic Rocket engine to India under pressure of USA. India & US / China can never be good friends ,as they will never stop their support to pakistan due to their strategic & economical Interest & India cant ignore this fact , as pakistan is a mega stopping block in its emerging economic & poltical power struggle.

DO NOT TRUST UNITED STATES!!!!
by Jiji on Apr 12, 2007 03:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The writer has gone mad and seems like having no knowledge about the Indian history. Till 1960's, India was much closer to US than USSR. But when India needed US help during 1961s Chinese agression, the US turned their back against us. Because US did not want China to go to the USSR camp, which was much stronger than India. Learning from that mistake India tried to move close to USSR and it turned out to be a fantastic relation with mutual respect from each sides. And then again during 1972s Pakistan war, US decided to send their 7th fleet against India! It was USSRs pressure which stopped US from entering in to Indian ocean. And also in 1970s US had around 20 nuclear submarines which was aimed against India in the Degarsia island of Indian ocean!! The US is a country which is highly selfish and oppurtunistic and believes that it is a super power and it can do anything. It even doesn't care the United Nations when it has to do something of its own interest.
According to me India should keep its very good relation with Russia going, as I am sure that they will be with us on any hard situations and if possible try to get China and EU closer to us. BUT DO NOT TRUST UNITED STATES!!!!

"BUT DO NOT TRUST UNITED STATES"

I agree with you totally. No country ever had a good experience from engaging with US. It is a predatory mercantile economy run by venal white men. Their main job is to destablise any country which seems to be rising and can be a potential challenger to their world dominance
