why only kannada medium?
by laks on Sep 29, 2006 12:10 AM  Permalink

kannada is important but it is not ultimate. Subject like medium of instruction can not be allowed to be decided by a selected few politicians or otherwise. Think global, ink global, talk global!!!

Kannada or English in schools
by Dr.Gautham Kulamarva on Sep 28, 2006 11:47 PM  Permalink

The very same dirty Kumaraswamy eats the food he is "earning" from the numerous call centre job holders paying the taxes. If they were to learn only Kannada, do you think the foreign people would've sent the jobs to India.
One of the most favourable thing about India in the world today is that it is an English speaking nation and thereby instantly acceptable for job offers and trade.

It makes me wonder whether politicians in India will ever attain maturity. Idiotic people. (Idiot by definition means a person with the lowest of the low IQ - for Kumaraswamy to understand.)

Kids Should known first the mother tongue & later any language for bread & butter
by Shivaji Honakuppi on Sep 28, 2006 11:43 PM  Permalink

I am kannadiga studied in English medium from start because my father studied in kannada medium & therfore he is poor in english, thats reason he made us to studied in english but the bad part is that i am not master any language & very poor in mother tongue kannada
I can bet to any body the majority of english medium student are ecnomically better but culturely they they are poor than than student who studied in thier mother tongue or any regional language because thier basics strong, the reason for that man understand better in mother tongue ,thats his first language.
Life is not awhole bread & butter , its right education for that choosing right medium is important where one can understand things way they are.
In kannada there is Great saint's BASANNA who's VACHANNA's are in kannada but the bad part i do not understand them even though they are in my mother tongue because i am from English medium whom to blame no one myself but coming generation let they not blame us
Bottomline first be master in your tongue & later u can master any language beacuse u are master in mother tongue & English is not big deal to learn

Government Decision on Schools
by Uttam on Sep 28, 2006 11:37 PM  Permalink

I think the government has taken the right decision .. as this will make sure that more and more kannadigas will get educated in Kannada medium schools while we will keep getting educated in English medium schools. This will cut the competition locally as well as globally so we will be having greater chances of getting jobs and opportunities. Kudos to the government of Karnataka which is trying to rectify the law breaking schools without giving a second thought why these schools are doing the same. Simply cause the parents demand it. Here we have CM who wants to make Bangalore like Singapore and here we have another who wanna make sure the people of Karnataka cant even spell Singapore let alone make it Singapore. Well done all people who support KANNADA as medium of instruction. My first advice is STOP using ENGLISH. I have lived in BAngalore for 30 years and 90% of people cant speak their own language without english ... FOr Your own sake stop being hypocrites....

kannada...learn or get out of karnataka !!
by ajay on Sep 28, 2006 11:31 PM  Permalink

it has to made compulsory..no matter wht.....take the example of TN, they don't care for the national lang also...forget abt english.......people come from all over India to karnataka to study schooling, medicine, engg, etc, etc, etc and they do not want to learn the language...cmc, vellore has made tamil a compulsory lang in its currculum....its high time we fight back...this is the first step in right direction....
guys are staying 10 to 15 yrs in blr and they don't know a word of kannada....it is really sad....I bet atleast 30 to 40 % of enggineers, specially the s/w engg around the globe will be products of KARNATAKA ENGG COLLEGES...stay & learn..or get the **** out !

Kids should learn in Kannada
by Kashinath on Sep 28, 2006 11:30 PM  Permalink

The whole lot of messages miss the point and exhibit inexperience/ignorance.

The point is kids learn mother tongue at home (in this instance Kannada) and understand it the most. If they are taught subjects of science and arts in Kannada they understand it the best. Dr.Narasimhaiah (HN) used to explain nuclear physics to us in final yr BSc in Kannada for easy understanding and he strongly believed that his lectures are to be understood and not his notes in English mugged up as students are doing in India.

I live in a foreign country. I have always enjoyed the ease with which my children have understood maths & science when I explained the subjects to them in Kannada. Note that before moving out of the country they studied in no less an English school than Baldwin's in Bangalore.

All high-tech developed countries in the world like in Europe (minus Britain), Japan, Russia etc., teach in their own languages. Those who need ENglish, learn it as a language seperately. I have met and worked with plenty of them and can vouch for their brilliant understanding of subjects.

I am not against GOOD English teaching as a language only. But all subjects in MOTHER TONGUE only.

Should Karnataka kids learn English
by Francis D\'Cunha on Sep 28, 2006 11:12 PM  Permalink

This is another trick on the Government to deviate the minds of the public from the various scandals that are being reported. Instead of encouraging what the world is going forward with, our politicans are taking us backward with the language issue for our kids. Dont be surprised if they say next that there is so much pollution in Karnataka and all of us should travel by Tongas instead of automobiles.

respect your mother
by shiva prasad bharadwaj on Sep 28, 2006 11:10 PM  Permalink

Hi Friends,
We are from Goa & settled here in Bangalore long back. We speak English as well as Kannada at home & outside. Our parents thought us to resect & learn as many language as possible.I would like to share my views & suggestions on above topic.
Every kid should learn kannada compulsorily if they really respect our motherland.its the parents & school administration who had to be really blamed & not the kids.Every state in India & every country & region in the world has made their regional language compulsory in school level.U can have one mother & one motherland,U cannot call a nieghbour women or men as ur parents just because they are better than ur own parents.simillarly we need to respect the place which gives us food, shelter, clothing etc..
The Government's concern has to be appreciated. It would have been better if they implemented the rule before the start of academic year by avoiding the inconvenience to the students.
English & Hindi is necessary but Kannada is "MUST" in Karnataka.

The Topic should be - 'Should the Government close down illegal schools'
by Gautam on Sep 28, 2006 11:10 PM  Permalink

And the answer is 'YES'.

So, no debate required.

The other issue of kids learning english or learning in english is left to the parents and not the government. The state government is not forcing anyone to learn the local language.

Who benefits if a person learns the local language? Its the person and not the government. So, all those people who oppose the language think twice. I being one from another state learnt Kannada and find easier in my day-to-day life, the government didn't benefit from it but I did.
