by Prashant.Jadhav on Oct 27, 2006 04:51 PM  Permalink

yes,
this is the basic thing that each and every student of karnataka or India should have the knowledge of english. It is just because of globalisation. If any child of india want to be a global man then he/she must have to learn English.

Disruptive activites within India is greater terrorism!
by B.Gautam on Oct 12, 2006 08:58 PM  Permalink

The severest terrorism in the country is not from across the Indo=Pak border, but from well within our own country!
First and foremost is the huge monster of corruption that is eating away the country, steadily posing a challenge to real perceptible growth of the largest majority of the population of the country, which is a large threat to the country itself!
Secondly the secular minded groups indulging in very narrow attitude and out look comfortably eclipsing the vital and urgent issues like wiping out of poverty, illiteracy, population increase and other inadequacies of basic needs of the large population of the country, indulging in violence and crime!
Those fanatics fighting amidst the people of our own country on the names of languages and states disrupting the progressive works!
Those who could not see real growth of the country due to improper education as they could not assess the real purpose of right education, by continuing with and enhancing the opportunities to learn and practice English which itself survives by its noble gestures of accepting and admitting all other languages into it very easily!

It is a misfortune that a large majority of these people indulging in such disruptive activities are literates! They are not aware of the fact that the impact of such negative thoughts and activities on the community of the youth is very very dangerous pushing them into violence and crime leading them into a life of disarray instead of imparting rightful knowledge!
Is this not greater terrorism than that peeps from across the b

English learning in Karnataka Schools
by sbhujanga on Oct 08, 2006 05:17 PM  Permalink

A foolish step by a visionless Government should be ignored.
If the existance of real educated politicians is there then such storms in the tea cup should simply exstinguish.
If the issue is given utmost imoprtance in Karnataka assembly then it clearly indicates that the assembly has the counsellors who knows how to read and write and do not have adequate maturity of judgement and modern vision. Linguistic fanatism has no role in the modern world. One must love his mother tongue and value it but should not be a fanatic.
If the assembly fails to rersolve the issue amicably then there is no scope for next assembly too.Do Karnataka politicians under this and behave.

Kannada Vs English
by Sudhindra on Oct 08, 2006 01:04 AM  Permalink

Yesterday, Govt of Karnataka took a decision to make English compulsory in Kannada schools. This is a step forward.

Few days ago, It gave a blow to education by de-recognizing 2000 private schools. This is 2 steps backward.

Agreed, that these schools violated law by teaching English medium instead of Kannada medium.

Bringing a chauvinistic attitude on a language solves nothing. In Vidhana Soudha, Every honorable minister flaunts English.

I being Kannadiga am proud of my language. Leading by example helps. First make kannada compulsory in Vidhana Soudha. That sends some clear messages to public.

Otherwise, We will go back to medieval ages.

What all this could be in globalizing world
by pumaaa on Oct 06, 2006 09:36 AM  Permalink

***kindly post mine, bze its all only for goodness***

Most of our people believe they speak/write english well. but the fact is the way how doing englishhh is not at all enough. All now is, moving towards one accent and neutralizing for it. We going to be 3rd of global economies by 2025 should be well forward of others. Nations like china and Korea are hiring native english speakers to train their kids and where we are in doing that...

So both the local and international languages should remain. And primary teaching should be in mother tonge bze its time we fertilize our kids with basic science & technical knowledge and via mother tonge can do it best. Parallely having english and in later stage moving to fullfledged education thru english could only keep all us survive.

Its globalizing world and 'Only Mine' is nothing doing in a common internationl locality.

English Ban in Bangalore
by KanwalJeet on Oct 06, 2006 04:27 AM  Permalink

The step that Government has contemplated is almost as if it is still in nursery standard. To close down schools without notice is just absurd and unreasonable. Does the goverment officeial think any bit about the students studying in these schools. There is a way to impliment everything, May be government uses more wisdom to handle the issue. It should acess with in itself what kind of people are propogating the issue and directing it wrongly.

looking at the bigger picture
by Vamsi.Y on Oct 06, 2006 12:32 AM  Permalink

It's quiet depressing, seeing a state that paved the way for reforms in IT industry and is leading the Indian IT boom ,reverting back to olden days .I am big fan of promoting the regional languages in schools but just banning schools which teach english is not the solution to the problem in hand .Doing that would be like ,sitting in your well and thinking that's how the world looks . I might be slightly harsh ,but the truth is that the world is changing and we have to prepare the kids accordingly ...that can be done by making the schools teach kannada along with english ... well one might say that never happens ,I studied in a school where both of them were taught and its possible, atleast from my experiences ...

Banning english teaching schools doesn't make students to learn kannada...it infact makes them incompetent in english which will affect them as they grow and go places for jobs....

Finding the right proportion between the two languages will certainly help the cause. our leaders should stop looking at every issue with a political outlook and should infact learn to see the bigger picture because decisons made today are going TO MAKE DIFFERENCE TOMMORROW(KID's Future).

Definitely a step backward
by Jaya on Oct 05, 2006 09:14 PM  Permalink

Banning English in Schools is definitely a step backward. I agree, India has a variety of languages, many of whihc are ancient and are fading away due to the Global culture that has fast been catching up in India. Imparting education exclusively in Kannad is not the solution to salvage our languages. I am not against the medium of education being Kannad or any other language for that matter, what I am against is restricting the freedom of children, who at one point of time will need more than one language to communicate, when they grow up and move out into the world. They should have well developed skills in the one language that many people over the world understand - English.
