Banning English in Schools is definitely a step backward. I agree, India has a variety of languages, many of whihc are ancient and are fading away due to the Global culture that has fast been catching up in India. Imparting education exclusively in Kannad is not the solution to salvage our languages. I am not against the medium of education being Kannad or any other language for that matter, what I am against is restricting the freedom of children, who at one point of time will need more than one language to communicate, when they grow up and move out into the world. They should have well developed skills in the one language that many people over the world understand - English.
