Chikungunya
by Raj on Oct 10, 2006 06:44 PM  Permalink

My family members are affected by Chikungunya. There are so many people in my street who are affected by the same., First the numbers are completely false. Its way too high than that.Indian government. There are no medicines available anywhere. Every after 2 months since they had, they still suffer from joint pains. Indian government does nothing to stop this. Indian government should be ashamed of themselfs for not taking steps to stop and to do something about mosquitos. I live in US and have traveled all over the world. But there is no country where government does not care about their own citizens than Indian government. Indian government should hang themself.

Dengue and Chikungunya - Manmade problems
by Chad Pillai on Oct 10, 2006 06:32 PM  Permalink

Recent outbreak of dengue and Chikungunya exposes the inefficiency in our Public health system through out India.

I was born and brought up in Tamilnadu. I moved to United States in 1997 . I live in Philadelphia with my wife and 2 boys.

I know four cases in my family and friends circle who were affected. One became fatal. My friends wife in Chennai was affected by Dengue and she died within three days at a very young age (early thirties). This happened about 5 years back. In another Dengue case, my cousins daughter was admitted to ICU in a famous hospital in Trivandrum. Due to early diagnosis she was cured by expert doctors. This happened about 3 years ago.

Recently my friend(Chennai) and uncle(Nagercoil) were affected by Chikungunya and they are recovering.

Government needs to step up the efforts involving all parties. Political parties need to stop the blame game and work hard to help the people fight this problem.

Stagnant water and open sewage system cause mosquitoes to breed easily.

Ultimately human beings are responsible for Mosquito related problems.

Wait no more. Act fast.

Learn from developed nations in how they live in hygienic environment.

Karnataka must be the worst effected state
by Ganesh on Oct 10, 2006 06:24 PM  Permalink

Well, after PM's relatives got infected with dengue virus, then only the news hit the headlines.
But holdon, chicken gunya was reported in karnataka around 6-8 months back!!!. But no one at the centre took notice of it.
Lakhs of people have been infected with chicken gunya in karnataka alone. Governement should have done something long back to contain the spread of virus.
This is another classic example that our government wakes up only when something happens in delhi and something happens to people in the higher ranks.

Its not just Kerela & Delhi
by Kavan on Oct 10, 2006 06:06 PM  Permalink

Its not just Kerela suffering from Chikunguniya. The epidemic just started in Kerela approx. 2 weeks back. Gujarat has been affected by chikunguniya since almost 2 months. Central government should do something for the general public healthcare and environment clean-up. Wake-up!!!!

Chukungunya & Dengue - Sala Ek Machar India Govt. Ko Chakka Bana Diya
by Nusrathullah Mohammed on Oct 10, 2006 05:34 PM  Permalink

Hello,
Chikungunya and Dengue remind me about the famous dialog of Nana Patekar "Sala Ek Machar......". In current times it should be "Sala Ek Machar Indian Govt. Ko Chakkaa Bana Diya".

There has been zero activity by the govt. to stop this epidemic. No proper cleaning of sewers, no plan to destroy mosquito breeding pothols and damp area, no spray of mosquitto repellent, no public advertisements to generate awareness about the diseases, no help to poorer and the poorest of the poor...

Treatment wise not a single document has been studies, no mood to research into the matter, no pains taken to conduct a survey even when it has becomes so easy using Mobile SMS...

The only solution to this problem is the mosquitoes biting these Politicians, bureaucrats and Health Dept. officials...No doubt they are already "Chakka" in providing the services...it would further strengthen the positon against them.

Few Personal Tips:

1. Consult local physicial and take Ofloxin IV or Ofloxin pills.

2. Take chicken/mutton stock or veg-soup regularly

3. Gently massage the affected joints and bones with Nilgiri Oil...

God willing it will help...

Thanks

Regards,
N.Mohammed

What did India do Right? - should be the question
by deepak on Oct 10, 2006 05:27 PM  Permalink

I live in a beautiful apatrment complex. Right in front of which there is a garbage dump which is hardly ever cleaned by the muncipality.

I work in very hi-tech and well planned IT park employing over 20,000 people. Right in front of its Back gate is a open drain which stinks for half a mile. No government organisation seems to be bothered.

Then you as this question - What India did wrong?

Ironic or Pathetic - what is it?
