unwelcome guests
by Girish on Nov 17, 2006 10:18 PM  Permalink

I agree, the Chinese are not welcome to India. We should not do business with them and keep them away. In fact, in the sidelines of Hu's visit, the govt. should host a function as a gesture of commitment to the people of Tibet.
It is foolish foreign policy to extend red carpet to enemies and neglect our friends in Tibet and other eastern countries. Our lethargy has always made us pay.
India should discuss about reclaiming the parts of kashmir and macmohan line instead of being defensive on bull given by the nomad Hans who have lived on religion borrowed from us.

Turn the tables
by photonman on Nov 17, 2006 10:07 PM  Permalink

I am quite amused by the state of affairs that we find ourselves in. Tibet was an autonomous region until China forcefully annexed it. We continue to give asylum to the Tibetan government. China continues to supply arms to Pakistan, Bangladesh and the north-eastern terrorists.

Doesn't it look glaring that we don't do any of these:
1. Take up the Tibetan "cause" more vociferously in international fora.
2. Rake up human right violations
3. Foment trouble in Tibet - I am sure there are enough countries who want the same thing - US for starters...

At this point, the least one can do is to raise the Tibetan issue in the talks. That should cut the dragon's tail!

China plays hard ball with India
by labrea on Nov 17, 2006 09:20 PM  Permalink

China desperately wants India's formal recognition as a market economy, while India needs China's support for UNSC memebrship and, as a member of the NSG, her assent to any Indo-US N-deal, and other matters like global energy prospecting etc. Dr Singh must not allow these issues to lead him into the dragon's trap - getting India's backing and support while reneging on theirs, always promising but never quite delivering - always keeping the Indians the supplicant, while being the benevolent benefactor. And, while good relations is most welcome, China will never accept India as an equal partner in anything, espcially as a hegemon in S/Asia or anywhere within their 'sphere of influence'- keep that in mind. Remember, China isn't the only one who can play hard ball - two can play the same game.

China against India
by Hemant Naik on Nov 17, 2006 08:54 PM  Permalink

We need to stop any relations with China. More we interact with these enimies more we loose. Keep them away in all interactions like bussiness, importing consumer goods etc. Then they will understand what it means grabing others houses.

Time to call Beijing's bluff
by Deepak Mohanty on Nov 17, 2006 08:30 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Well first things first; throw out the ambassador. This should happen despite the commies.

As somebody has already mentioned, India must recognize Tibet. In addition, India must begin long term strategic alliance with Vietnam and equip it to the teeth with a viable nuclear arsenal. Time to call Beijing's bluff.

Yes. Arm a clever nation like Vietnam and keep Beijing jittery. I think even the US thinks, tough little buggers like the vietnamese can keep a better check on China, than large, pompous and frightened indian leaders.

CHINA IS A PROUD NATION, INDIA IS A WEEKLING
by Sreenivasan Raju Aiyer on Nov 17, 2006 08:18 PM  Permalink

The Chinese and their leaders are very proud of their hoary past. They are very proud of their Confucian background, their glorious 5000+ year history. India on the contrary has state sponsored historians like Romilla Thapar, S. Gopal (who so very proudly says in the very first line of his father Dr. S. Radhakrishnan's biography that he was a bastard), Panicker, Sarkar, Satish and Bipin Chandras, the Chatterjee, Banerjee, Mukherjee, Irfan Habib (come to think of it, he has been accepted as `secular') are busy brainwashing school children and running down our national heroes such as Chanakya (because he was a brahmin), Chatrapati Shivaji, Guru Nanak, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and many others. China is a proud nation, India led by secular (anti-India) leaders is to the contrary. India is ready to crawl even before China wants us to bow, China has planted people like Chatterjee, Basu, Karat and Yechury in vital positions ever willing to do their bidding. We are bloody loosers, and just as we lost Aksai Chin we will one day loose Arunachal Pradesh and its loss will be justified by Congress leaders just as Nehru justified loss of Aksai China as "not a blade of grass grows there".

Reclaim Tibet as Independent Nation
by Vimal Kumar on Nov 17, 2006 03:47 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India now should recognise Tibet as an independent nation. Should support Dalai Lama and his ideologies. Chinese should be reminded of few points.

Hahahahahahaha. Please be a little more realistic. If India recognizes Tibet as an independent nation, China will refuse to recognize India, and make life for you Indians even more miserable than it already is. China doesn't play nice with its foes.

Yes, infact India should be much more aggressive, Chinca cannot simply Bully India like it does with Thaiwan.
India should think of ways in engaging China like it is doing now with India, it keeps us Busy with Pakisthan and when we find ways to deal with Pak it creates another problem. We should work with nations of common interest (Japan/US) on dealing with China. Yes we should support Tibet and help them attain freedom there, A free Tibet nation is a dream neibour than a pain in the butt China.
We are not at all doing justice to people of Tibet, they should be given all the help and resources needed. Some how i feel we are very timid in our foreign policy, there can never be a fullfledged war between Nuke neibours, so no worries, if China is ready to face a proxy war, then lets do it, lets do a Pakistan to them, lets arm the tibetens and fund them for their freedom. How about that Mr Sun ???

Ya, you are right. The indian goverment should remind the chinees president about the tri party agreement of the year 1914 through which china has no right over Tibet. And if that is so,recognizing of sikkim or dicussing on macmohan line or holding up the akshi chin rigion, all are bound to be illigal for them and does'nt have any relevence as their borders will not be touching with india.

India should recognise Tibet as a independent nation and force the chinese to stop supporting Jihadist Pakistan. India should reclaim the land ceded by the Jihadist pakis to China. NEVER TRUST CHINESE AND THEIR JIHADIST FRIEND PAKISTAN!
