We have forgotten, China has not
by B N Goyal on Nov 24, 2006 01:35 PM  Permalink

We have forgotten, China has not" - I don't agree with this . I can't forget the 1962 aggression of China,I can't forget the dismal show of then Defence Minister V K Krishna Menon, I can't forget Indian gesture to get China its Security Council seat restored to them, I can't forget the audacity of Pakistan to hand over the Indian portion (occupied by them) to China and China accepting it with a broad smile, I can't forget the gesture shown by Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi,to hand over 100,000 prisoners of war to Pakistan without bargaining for the POK. Our follies are countless because we are peace loving nation. There should be a limit. Let Chinese leaders know it is not 1962,it is 2006. No nonsense about Indian territory whether Arunchala Pradesh or Aksai Chin.

Let us blame to ourselves,China has global outlook and not India centric.
by Bagmar Satish C.A. on Nov 21, 2006 05:50 PM  Permalink

In 1962 China invaded and proved how vulnerable our defence preparedness and how USA then too was mere spectator.Taking lesson ,india turned to USSR and our defence preparedness touched minimum deterrent against China and we faught succesfully 3 wars with Pakistan too.
China had to take seriously BJP nuclear threat and BJP writting to America over Pokhran 2.China was not decissive in 65 and 71 war by Pakistan against India.
China now is decissively helping Pakistan as an overall strategy against imperilizam as America has no permanent friends and like Saddam,Osama,Taliban it may use and throw Pakistan to have bases in weak Pakistan. Now there is no BJP govt in india and BJP has worst experince of America and this nuclear deal is what BJP is opposing tooth and nail.
China and India were at par economically in 1982.now China percapita income is twice India and it shall take a decade for India to reach China level and by then China shall be 3 times india economically.Pakistan too with China engages USA strategically.China is uniting east and it has more to do than dealing with india alone. Now there is no chance for bJP and uSA shows colours.Let us not be prisoner ofpast

Babu bureaucrats and short-sighted politicans selling the country out
by Arty on Nov 19, 2006 06:57 PM  Permalink

Our Babu bureaucrats and short-sighted politicans are doing an excellent job in selling the country out to the Chinese. What more can we expect from these corrupt, uneducated and self-serving lot ?

Such a pity that our brilliant brains have to leave the country to get recognition. Hats off to those few IIT and IIM and other students who slog it out against all odds by staying-put in the country.

Coming back to China, my heart bleeds when I think that Nehru threw away the UN Security Council seat and instead asked that it be given to China !!! Also, the other blunders : 1962 war, Coco Island donated to Myanmar (which is now a Chinese spying station), etc.,

Out fellows never learn ... The harder the Chinese kick us the more we go and try to be friends with them.

What About Kailash-Maansarovar
by Concerned Citizen on Nov 16, 2006 08:25 PM  Permalink

Have we all forgotten that they occupy what is probably the most sacred piece of land to most Indians, namely Kailash-Maansarover, have we ever thought of raising the issue of re-incorporating it into India?

We've forgotten. China hasn't
by Ramesh CM on Nov 16, 2006 08:17 PM  Permalink

A very pragmatic analysis - I wish our political bosses put their heads together, and take long term policy initiatives such that the unpardonable mistakes of era prior to 1962 vis-a-vis China are not repeated. It is only desirable to persue and applaud the positive side of our developing relationships with China but we should not forget that the things can change dramatically in a very quick time. And it will only be farsighted approach to plan and prepare ourselves for such an eventuality lest we are caught napping like we did in 1962.

We have forgotten the past China hasn't
by Pradeep Saran on Nov 16, 2006 06:36 PM  Permalink

We must act according to the need of the day. The government approach today should be to resolve all outstanding disputes with our neighbours. This cannot be done without a give and take policy. the government should not be worried about popular public opinion as in India this changes every minute. The map of India has already been defaced with the consent of our leaders at the time of transfer of power by the British.
The situations created by the foreign rulers intentionally or unintentionally led to everlasting problems with the Indian leaders.
The inability of the government to pursue a firm Foreign policy over the last few decades has weakened India's stakes.
It is therefore essential that we must declare our stand firmly on our borders and negotiate with both China and Pak to permanently resolve our border disputes and the problem of Kashmir.
