Milan Sub-way
by harry on Jul 26, 2006 03:35 PM  Permalink

I have been in Mumbai for more than a decade. The name Milan sub-way (MSW) becomes very active on the onslaught of Mumbai monsoon. If it is a drisil, down pour, MSW is full and all the media flashes MSW with other places as flooded (one of my friend aptly said, if somebody pissess also it get flooded !!!!). So can we call it as Milan Water-way ?. Why the Govt. is not been able to overcome the water logging problem at MSW ?

Why remember.........
by AMJAD K. MARUF on Jul 26, 2006 03:21 PM  Permalink

Why do the media wants us to remember 26/7. Why reopen the wounds? Let the bygone be bygone. Think about present and future.

Mumbaikars Wake Up
by Alby on Jul 26, 2006 02:52 PM  Permalink

I was also stuck in traffic for over 12 hours last year, and as rightly said, I though that it is the Mumbaikar spirit that let me get through the situation. But today I find that it is true for any person iving anywhere in India. But sad to say that we have all learnt to take things lying down, and we call it "The Spirit of Mumbai". We have all forgotten that what we get is finally what we fight for, and sad to say that we have lost our fighting spirit. The administration is totally deaf, and has done absolutely nothing to imporove after last year's deluge. We should thak God that there are no cloud bursts this year, otherwise situation would have been worse. We should all unite and fight for our rights. Better roads, more cleanliness, better transport system... these are the things which will help us out of such situations, and it is not just "The Spirit of MUmbai" which will help us. Ask the people who have lost their close ones last year in the rains or this year in the blasts. Lets do something for them, and something for our children. Lets take these guys head on and not compromise.

by Armin Irani on Jul 26, 2006 02:32 PM  Permalink

all i want to say is i hate the government . they r of no use especially johnny joseph and a n roy .. they r a burden on the country.

but what i want to say is also this PEOPLE WAKE UP and make a conscious effort to keep our country n city clean. we cannot blame others for what we do. make a serious effort not to spit on the road or throw garbage on the road. if there is no dustbin wrap it in paper n throw it when u find a dustbin. also use paper bags instead of plastic bags. it is difficult but once u get the habitit will be wonderful.when we cannot rely on the authorities it is time we start taking steps n measures to clean our city in what ever way we can. its time MUMBAIKARS woke up started taking responsibilties for their actions and started making changes to give ourselves a better cleaner n fresher environment.

The other day I was aghast at seeing the plight of young prince trapped in a hole, ignored by the muncipal authorities, wonder what would've happened if the muncipal commisioner's son had fallen in it...secondly it was disgusting to see the depressing drama being enacted all throughout the day on TV, it made the news channel seem like pimps and the country a huge brothel. No wonder terrorists love to have a One Night Stand with India!

You are right my friend in saying only God can save us.
We are at the mercy of these corrupt politicans and government officals who hold us to ransom while they fill their pockets. No wonder we are sitting ducks for terrorists cause they know we are helpless.
My heart goes out to all those who lost their loved one in the 7/11 blasts May God bless them and give them courage.

Better late than never!!!!!!
by Ramesh Ramakrishnan on Jul 26, 2006 01:49 PM  Permalink

India is certainly a soft target for terrorists. It's high time our educated politicians understand from what other countries like Israel is doing.

Israel is countering terrorism with an iron hand with the blessings of country like US. Why not India???

It's high time we make our US folks understand that they can't keep playing safe by supporting India and Pakistan as a common friend.

We got to pull our socks and improve our intelligence capabilities and have some strong action initiated.

It pains me when terrorist acts are being inflicted on the common man. How many families are plagued with sorrow, loosing their breadwinners.

The life of a common man is equally important to that of a politician or a high society person.

May the almighty gives the courage and confidence for the common man to overcome their sorrow and sufferings and at the same time give some good thinking to our decision makers to handle terrorism strongly.

26/7 - Administration and Politicians failure
by Naren on Jul 26, 2006 01:46 PM  Permalink

I was held up in office on that fateful day while my house was submerged under water. My wife and 2yr old son just managed to come out on time with help of neighbours. Every year there has been water clogging in our area, thanks to builder lobby which acquired salt pans and small lakes in the area to construct towers. Unfortunately, there is no officer or politicians knowledgeable enough to foresee what could happen when new project is coming up in the area. What are pros & cons. No detailed studies are made, infact if they found there could be serious problems due to new project, they will corner the promoter to cough up more money to get sanctions. Also, ordinary citizen should take care of not littering the area, avoid using plastic bags. Follow up with administration for regular cleanup of gutters and nallahs in your area. Hope Mumbai administration learn something from the incident and plan for better Mumbai. Also, Politicians need to keep their personal goals aside while considering public demands.

We are jammed on the road and our car could not move futher and we are stuck near Andheri-MIDC area.We closed window and we have no option but to stay inside the car whole night till 27 July morning and at 7 PM we left Mr. Vincent at Leela and started walking from Leela ,Andheri to Vashi ,my residence. While walking from Andheri via Kural we had to cross lot of water block and from kurla via high way I reached at 8 P.M. on 27 July, 2006.
After reaching home I could not find my wife and and my daughter who ultimately arrived at 9 PM with her colleage's husband.Relaxed!,very clear memory is that every turn of road people were offering food and water, express my gratitude.Pray for the victims.
