Easier said than done
by N J Ramesh on Jul 16, 2006 09:22 AM  Permalink

The root cause of terror is men seeking to grab money instead of earning it via hard work and ethically.

Most of the decision-making for terror operations are done in environs away from the places where terror gets executed. Their effort in this terror decision-makers is to conceal their identity and even provide misleading clues.

Not easy to be aware of the facts, let alone be able to do anyting to them. Better to be sensible of our limitations, fully aware of what can be and can not be done, and optimise capability.

We need a technical and analytical bent of mind fact finding in real-time for tackling terror.

india needs to be ruthless
by mahender on Jul 16, 2006 05:20 AM  Permalink

i fully support the author what he said in the story.
in those days god was there to punish the devils what about now there is only a hope of god, can help us but everyone knows that cant help. god helps innocents, so why dont we take his place n help the all our people because they are all innocents. writing stories like this cant help anything, have to do something which should save our lives. so what is that we all have to do? "politicians" = "terrorists" i dont think much difference between these two words.
they got power to take action but they wont do why?
what they afraid of.
can we save our lives if we say peace?

Learn from Israel
by Ram on Jul 15, 2006 11:17 PM  Permalink

India is a huge country, powerful and yet pitiful. We have proved that we are useless and impotent. No matter how many blasts have ripped the country, we just sit and see what happens next.
I wonder that, one day, terrorists will see that India does not respond to their threats and attacks and, will think that it is useless to do these attacks and, will just stop. Is this what our "leaders" are waiting for?
Just learn from Israel, it rammed Lebanon and Gaza when 3 of its soldiers were apprehended by terrorists. It is a shame that we being so powerful, still sit and invite terrorists to hit us, over and over again.
Maybe the politicians themselves are involved with the terrorists. I will say, get the leaders out of Parliament and give the power to army to rule the country, since they feel the brunt of terrorism.
Jai Hind!!

Get wisdom from Mahabharata
by susarla on Jul 15, 2006 08:30 PM  Permalink

Indian politicians must be injected with a high dose of Testosterene to fight the terrorists. Hell with human rights and democracy. The order of the day is to save Indian civil society from evil. The terrorists and their supporters must be eliminated ruthlessly as they are found disregarding all the laws and rules which were made for civilized persons. Duryodhana and Karna were eliminated through fowl means in Mahabharata war. Noble men like Bhisma and Drona were also eliminated through illegal means because they were on the side of the evil. Lord Krishna advised Pandavas and showed the way on how to fight evil. Khalistani terror was elimnated only after massive brutal response from the State. Same recipie must be used to fight Islamic terror.

India needs to be ruthless
by Amar on Jul 15, 2006 02:47 PM  Permalink

I wholeheartedly support the feelings of the author. Unless terrorist are clear that India will kill 10 terrorists or their supporters for every Indian killed, this mindless violence will not stop.

But how will this happen in practice? We are nation of impotents run by a few B......s ie politicians. The first thing that the govt. announce after every bombblast, is that the peace process will continue. What, in practice it means is a few more busloads of terrorists will travel from Pakistan to India and govt. will garland them.
The so called NGOs and secularists are on payrolls of the terrorists organisations worldwide so they cann't tolerate any action against terrorists but they are always against any nationalists or patriotic organisation even if hundreds of innocent people are killed. Have you heard any protests from any of these NGOs or so called secularists against any terorists attacks?

bombay blasts
by Jaspal Singh on Jul 15, 2006 03:38 AM  Permalink

We are a soft state and the fault lies with our worthy politicians. We are fighting insurgency in J&k for the last 20 years and in the north-east for so many years. Our security forces are suffering heavily in J&K and north east because of lack of clear policy of the govt irrespective whether it is dominated by BJP or Congress to contain insurgency. We blame each other for gaining political mileage. Advani blames the centre govt for Bombay blast. When our IA aircraft is hijacked, our these politicians only permit the hijackers to fly to Kandhar and bargain with them and release the terrorist in turn. We must learn message from Israel, two soldiers are abducted and the opponents taste the air attack in retaliation. We have to do something solid so that our adversary does not think of interfering with our civil society's peace and progress of our nation. Politicians have to come out of their narrow minded short term goals and think about the survival of our sovereignity.

Ruthless Vengeance backed by a Strong and United Society
by Giri Girishankar on Jul 15, 2006 03:31 AM  Permalink

(Continued from the earlier Message of the same title)

What have the above elements to do with addressing terrorism? (See my previous message)

A divided country fighting among its numerous factions is an attractive target for the malicious neighbors. Indian history has a number of instances to demonstrate this fact. When open warfare is not possible in the modern context, the way to carry out this maliciousness seems to be ruthless and inhuman terrorism. Indias politicians give the general impression that they are interested only in their local and selfish partisan objectives and would not hesitate to play opportunistic political games, including religious and communal types. This has the effect of dividing the society and creating a weak nation. I do not see a selfless leader on the Indian scene that rallies the people behind a national cause. This is the biggest drawback of our political system.

If there is a Mahatma Gandhi anywhere in the country, please rise to the occasion.

I commend Shishir Bhates on his clear and lucid column, including the summary of the common mans ideas on addressing terrorism, which I subscribe to. I would like to add the following comments:

·      India must build and present an image of a strong country, which is economically and technologically far superior to its neighbors; India has all the necessary resources, which need to be utilized in effective and productive ways.
·      India must be an integrated and unified society, exhibiting strong pride in its economic, scientific, technological and military strengths.
·      Leaders in the political, industrial and religious sectors must exhort the populace to think of India first and last; all other interests are subordinate to this image.
·      The Central and State Governments must set up an Awareness Program whereby people across the length and breadth of the country can be made aware of the dangers of terrorism posed by neighboring countries and also by native insurgents; make use of modern communication devices in an effective way to establish this program.
·      The Central and State Governments must enforce all laws of the land vigorously and without any exception. (Continued)
