I commend Shishir Bhates on his clear and lucid column, including the summary of the common mans ideas on addressing terrorism, which I subscribe to. I would like to add the following comments:
· India must build and present an image of a strong country, which is economically and technologically far superior to its neighbors; India has all the necessary resources, which need to be utilized in effective and productive ways. · India must be an integrated and unified society, exhibiting strong pride in its economic, scientific, technological and military strengths. · Leaders in the political, industrial and religious sectors must exhort the populace to think of India first and last; all other interests are subordinate to this image. · The Central and State Governments must set up an Awareness Program whereby people across the length and breadth of the country can be made aware of the dangers of terrorism posed by neighboring countries and also by native insurgents; make use of modern communication devices in an effective way to establish this program. · The Central and State Governments must enforce all laws of the land vigorously and without any exception.
