Yes, we should be ruthless
by Luke Rodrigues on Jul 13, 2006 07:59 PM  Permalink

You are right about the need to be ruthless. Even now we hear crooked politicians (read Samajwadi Party leaders) speak out in favour of those with terrorist links. The Indian government bends backwards to appease such people!

As of now the terrorists enjoy all the advantages. They act against the law and then rely on loopholes in that very law to get them out of trouble. It's time to be ruthless with any group suspected of having links with terror. After all, even the common man has human rights.

Spineless leaders
by janmejai on Jul 13, 2006 07:58 PM  Permalink

All such things are happening due to our spine less leaders. They are so much entangled in their cheap politics that there blood has lost its color. They find satisfaction in tapping phones, making cheap CDs , and making money thru various schemes of the system.
They have SOLD THEIR SOULS TO MAKE MONEY

India needs to be ruthless
by Hitesh on Jul 13, 2006 07:57 PM  Permalink

I totally agree with the author of this article. For too long we have suffered because of our tolerant natures. We as Indians come from very tolerant backgrounds, where we are taught to wait and watch and accept if something bad happens. The Indian leaders believe in having a meaningful dialogue, a round of negotiations going to the root of the problems and solving them, whereas they have turned a blind eye to the fact that these terrorists are not here to sit and talk, there job is destruction. These terrorist claim that all this is being done for oppressed Muslims in India, but how can this fact be true when in the recent bomb blasts Mahim and Khar were also the targets, and these two areas of Mumbai are Muslim dominated. Even if you look at it from an international point of view, the July 7 bombings in London last year, one of the bombs exploded on Edgware Road station which is majorly a Muslim dominated area and that too Arabs. The times have changed, so have the tactics to tackel terrorism. We Indians have to come together and its about time to make a statement just like Israel. You kill 1 of us, we kill 100s of you, that is the right way to tackle terrorism.

Mumbai blasts
by G Ramachandran on Jul 13, 2006 07:56 PM  Permalink

There is so much anguish over the death of hundreds of people at the hands of terrorists. But death at the hands of terrorists is quick. It is instant death. Compare this with the slow and constant humiliation that Indians suffer at the hands of the bureaucracy and the so-called civil administration. Indians have to kneel down and stretch their hands so that they can be caned. They have to show their backs so that they can be whipped. It is not clear which of the two lacks civility and humaneness.

"Mumbhai is back to normal life" - I just don't understand which affected family would have come to normal life.

We have to be Ruthless
by Nilesh Mahadik on Jul 13, 2006 07:47 PM  Permalink

I totally agree with you sir. But i would like to add that everybody knows where the terrorists are and where do they hide. We just have to stop preaching friendship and show them what we are made of. Call for a war and finish it off. No Pakistan No TERRORIST

Politicians are the root cause
by Uday on Jul 13, 2006 07:46 PM  Permalink

The politicians are the root cause. Mulayam singh today makes the statement that SIMI is not a terrorist organization. Before fixing the external problems, India must purge itself of such elements. Also, do not leave it to the government to do it, the individual in the populace has to do it alone. The Samajwadi party and the Congress have appleased the islamic extremists for too long. They must be voted out of power and put on trial.

Yes we need to be ruthless, but not mindless
by Amit Shesh on Jul 13, 2006 07:44 PM  Permalink

I am completely with the author that India needs to be ruthless with the perpetrators of this terrorist attack. India should stop bending over backwards to pakistan just to appear as a peaceful victimized nation to the rest of the world. This is our problem and we need to take the initiative in solving it. How can we convince the world of the evil designs of Pakistan if we ourselves choose to act on it in the lamest of ways? Pakistan does what it wants and still manages to hold USA in its pocket. What are we doing?

Having said that, it is indeed wrong to say that the terrorist has absolutely no rights. I agree that human rights are extended excessively to such elements, but to say the Geneva convention does not apply to terrorists is being as brash as the US is. Some may say that is what taking care of its citizens means, but the author should be reminded that the rest of the world, even a lot of Americans do not think so.We don't even need to go as far as that--what happened to Masood Azhar? We had him captured, we kept him in jail for 5 years without prosecuting him! We could've easily prosecuted him and hanged him! What did we do? Nothing! Punish those in hand first!

give me an example
by luqman on Jul 13, 2006 07:44 PM  Permalink

In how many situations did ruthless force and heavy retaliation crush terrorists?
Israel has fought "terrorism" with its own heavy handed tactics and is still not safe.

Instead of empty rheoteric and bravado do you really have a good suggestion?

I do, and it would be to squeeze terrorist networks financially, morally and through the law.
