Guruvayur Temple
by Anil Prasad on Jan 04, 2006 07:17 PM  Permalink

Vylar Ravi's son's case is different. Pl. don't consider it as the approach to Ezhavas. All Ezhava's are allowed to enter almost all temples in Kerala. It is an unnecessary attempt to divert the matter by showing it was against Ezhavas. Non entry to non-hindus is a temple custom. No comments on that. As per me, If Budhists and Jains can be allowed, why not Sikhs? (I believe they are still not allowed)

Base entry on declaration of plurality
by Thomas on Jan 04, 2006 07:14 PM  Permalink

I am a christian & I fully understand why entry should be bared for non-hindus...

But I would like to see the reasons given for this to be improved... for ex: most non-hindu religions like mine don't accept the validity of other faiths.. so there is no reason why people who hold on to such a belief system should be allowed to enter into a Hindu temple when all along they don't respect the point of the temple..

so only people who believe that God can be worshipped in numerous forms & not in the form I have belief in should be given entry... maybe they can have the choice to fill up such a form & sign it to gain entry...

Actually to my knowledge all religion perons should be allowed to enter in temple.there should be no caste discrimination. One more thing i would like to bring to notice that budhism is not a part of hinduism as said by temple administrator K Anil Kumar .Buddism has it's own principles & teachings of Buddha. In Buddhism treats every person as individual and not caste based, unlike hindu. If god has created every person according to hindu then all persons should be allowed to visit the temple

other faiths no
by RAMAMURTHY on Jan 04, 2006 06:45 PM  Permalink

It's a religious matter which should not be looked from social angle. There are many mosques and churches which will not allow others to enter or will ask them to follow their rituals,so why blaming only Hindus. The main reason for not allowing other than Hindus was taken as per the traditions and we need to obey them.

This article reminds me the similar practices in the prime temple of our state, the temple of Lord Jagannath in Puri of Orissa. hindu way of life advocates the TRUTH that the Divine is omnipresent. HE is there in me, you, all living and non living organism and objects. temples, mosques, Churches are the seats of peace where one can sit peacefully to concentrate on HIS presence in his own body, mind and life. He then tries to find HIS presence in each and every object. But it is surprising to find that the very people having faith on Universalisation of the Divine are busy on selecting people in terms of faith to restrict their entry into the temples. They should however remember that by restricting Devotees into the temple they are at loss, as they could have recieved some donations into the temple's account and some into their personal account.Being a Hindu myself I should not make them realise again and again that Religionwise People may be Different. But Spiritually all are one . Let's hope better sense prevails.

Sir,
The only religion to be practised in places of worship is the religion of humanity.Man is a human being first before he becomes a Hindu,Muslim,Christian
etc. It is an insult to humanity that human beings of one faith which they have themselves created, give themselves the right to bar other human beings from praying in front of their supposed common creator.
If the Dewaswom board does not act in the larger interests of humanity, then the Hindu worshippers should act by considering boycott of Guruvayoor.
Such a famous place of worship as Guruvayoor should set an example of humanity to other religious places than indulge in religious bigotry of the worst kind.

Dear Mr. Iype,
Good observations. But why only worry about Hindu temples. Try going to Mecca. You will not be allowed to enter the city.
I believe all worshipping places should be open to all irrespective of religion, but people who visit such places should take care not to hurt the sentiments of believers. How can one make sure at a time when mad releigions dont even spare old professors of our country?

sabarimala....
by sony muraleedharan on Jan 04, 2006 06:28 PM  Permalink

As a correction let me tell you that in Sabarimala Temple devotees belonging to any faith can enter. According to the legend Lord Ayyappas friend Vavarswamy is a Muslim and still the family members of Vavarswamy whois considered to be the present Vavarswamy is allowed to bless people in Sabarimala. Every year there is a person sitting just left to the Pathinettampadi( the 18 steps) blesses people and offers rakshas to small children who suffer from anykind of fears.
