Why not to give up chicken
by Subhro Gupta on Feb 24, 2006 10:22 AM  Permalink

The message posted by you is 100% supportive from my side. In India normally any dishes are overcooked and mainly marinated in spices which does have a very rich herbal power. The 'spices' masala does have the effect of healing any sort of diseases. Take for example the 'Turmeric'. Its used in all dishes starting from Mughlai to any Indian dishes. We have noticed that this Bird flu issue are in countries where the cooking is mainly half cooked or cooked without spices.
So hats off to that people with so much understanding as a reason for which they have left eating chicken. Thanks to all of you. Your abstinence has kept the prices low and we are all enjoying very much by eating the Chicken.

Carry on.

Eat Chicken!
by dream on Feb 24, 2006 09:47 AM  Permalink

Yes, Syed, you may as well continue eating chicken. Either ways, the chickens are going to be dead. They'll get culled, or people like you will eat it! Live and let live, is certainly not for people like you!!!

Re: Why I am not giving up chicked
by Prashant Srinivasan on Feb 24, 2006 09:10 AM  Permalink

Your analogy between bird a flu infected chicked and a lip-marked glass of 'cutting' chai is close to be baseless. And the reason I chose the word 'close to being' and not 'completely baseless' is that, you do run the same risk only when the glass had been previously used by someone who has a highly infectious disease. People keep away from chicken at this time because this bird flu, if it gets into the human system, is fatal. That's not the same as an unwashed glass of chai, or eating in a regular restaurant where the food is not cleaned properly. There is a lot of difference between running the risk of falling sick and running the risk of dying.

A bird can fly straight into Maharastra inland without landing on coastal areas
by vnk on Feb 24, 2006 04:49 AM  Permalink

Just the fact that we survive the filth of cutting chai does not mean we are safe from bird flu. Your writing confounds rationality.

chicken
by anjali on Feb 24, 2006 12:19 AM  Permalink

Hey, if yo want to eat chicken who can stop you?!! But why are you underestimating the hygenic living conditions in America, the risk of catching bird flu and the pandemic it can cause? there are many people like you who don't care about life that much but that doesn't mean you go on writing such ridiculous articles (may be just to promote the poultry business?!!)!!
All the countries who are concerned about the pandemic are not jobless that they need an issue to make fuss about and waste their time.
I'm amazed rediff even allows such irresponsible articles to be published!!

Ignorance is the reason for the writeup.
by bob on Feb 23, 2006 10:30 PM  Permalink

I'm ignorant too. My wife is a doctor and what she says is that the VIRUS COULD MUTATE INTO SOME FORM WHICH COULD EASILY TRANSMIT AMONG HUMANS and cause pandemic. That is why the govt and people who understand the consequencs are afraid about. I was told that many disease like Small pox and Chicken pox originated in animals and then mutated (To change the genetic material of a cell. The changes (mutations) can be harmful, beneficial, or have no effect) into humans to cause the harm. To eradicate those diseases it took decades then. Now the world population in much more than a few decades ago and since enough vaccine is not available, we are trying to prevent history from repeating. NOW THE AUTHOR and MANY OTHER'S so called "Chaltha hai" attitude will change. American's I think are not a pampered society but have the knowledge of these things and is why are taking steps right now to do research on it.I would say IGNORANCE is what caused us to have the "chaltha Hai" attitude. We may have a degree and theoretical knowledge but not enough knowledge about practical life.At this time the VIRUS FOUND IN BIRDS could go to humans but not transmit among Humans.
